Found a couple lures imitating sculpins for all you spin-fisherman. I actually bought the first one at cabelas about a year ago, but haven't thrown it out yet. They might be worth a try, I've never really heard of any one using them but they look pretty convincing.

This one's called the Salmo Bullhead, you can get them from cabela's, they run for $7.99.

This is the Storm Wildeye Live goby. I know you can't use it in the trophy area but might be good below it. Costs $3.99 at Bass Pro.

These are the Jewel Sculpin Hypertails, Can't use it in the trophy area either, costs $2.79 as BPS.

Anyways, thought I'd show these to everyone, might be worth a lot of fun on a spinning rod.

I always thought those goby's were shaped like a sculpin. Definitely worth a try.

I have thrown the Salmo Bullheads several times in the upper lake.

I do not believe I have even had one hit on them.

I don't understand it.

Now......I might have a confidence problem with them.

They look GREAT!

But everything else has seemed to outfish them for me.

I'm anxious to see if any one else has had a different experience.

Just my nickels worth. ^_^

Perhaps the reason why the fish don't hit the Salmos is because the wobble on the lure may be too aggressive. Just a theory...or an excuse for me to experiment for myself...

Maybe so.

I need to give it that good ol' Rapala wobble. :D

How can I doctor-it-up to reduce the wobble?

Good luck if you try them.

I'd be interested in your results.

It really boils down to the way the fish see the real thing. I would practice with several different presentations. That's what it takes, trial and error until you figure it out. They'll hit them if they look right. Just my two cents. The middle one looks good.

In my days of figuring out sculpin patterns I believe it comes down to rabbit for the body. I've tied the fanciest sculpin patterns but they have hard materials along with soft mixed in. And because they don't have enough "action" really makes me think it's really about how it rides in the water. Sculpins have to be fished on the bottom. That's where they live and rarely will they be swimming in the water column. They dart from rock to rock. So with lures I would retrieve them slower and tried to figure out ways to keep them on the bottom. That's why I say the middle one looks like it would be dangerous if fished right. And because the hooks keeled style it wont get hung up from keeping it on the bottom.

Accept the drift.....<>>><
