  1. Yeah Jason, One of these days if I keep at it I may end up being a decent fisherman. All I gotta do is remember everything needed to fish. Maybe I should rent a storage spot in Lebanon that way I could keep an extra of everything I need there so I don't forget something again.LOL I should just start leaving everything in my camper that way I know where it would be. But, you can't put wet waders and boots in the camper to store it. Just imagine the smell!!
  2. I used the same midge I used most of the time when we were down last month Jerry.
  3. Well I made the trip to Bennett for a three day romp. I arrived Friday and put up the camper and went to get my tag and realized that I was a little absent minded and left my vest and net at home with all my flys and tools and tippett and all the other goodies needed to fish. So I then made a trip up to see Charlie and pick up the stuff needed to fish and be somewhat organized. After getting all my junk situated I finally hit the stream about 3pm I think. Fished zone 2 and pretty much had the fish figured out in about 30 mins of fishing. The only problem was that I only had one midge that was sitting in the little tray of my cup holder in my truck. That just happened to be THE midge to be fishing. So I used 6x tippet and made sure I retied after about every 12 fish or so to keep from breaking off the only midge I had that was catching fish. I fished Zone2 till around 6pm I think and then headed up to Zone 1 above the dam and continued my success. I caught a ton of fish but all of them were pretty small with a few being normal sized to maybe even a decent sized one occasionally. The people that stock these fish really need to figure out what it takes to increase the sizes of the fish. I have never seen so many people keeping dinks in all my days at Bennett. If I was to have kept any fish I could have been picky enough to keep some decent fish but it would have taken me all day to do so. Saturday and Sunday I slept in both days till around 8am or so and hit the stream around 9 or 10 and continued my success with the same midge pattern after I tied up a half dozen or so Friday night. I fished Zone 1 up by the spring Sunday morning and pretty much hammered them till about 1pm and headed back to break camp and get some vittles. I didn't see too many people catching fish Sunday pretty much all day except for a few people above the dam fishing off of the dam. Everywhere I went I caught fish on the same midge as I started using friday afternoon. I finished up the day in Zone2 till I broke off and seen it was 5pm and I headed out. Hopefully I get a couple more chances to fish before the season is over and winter season kicks in. But, bowseason is here and I hauled the camper home to gear up for that. See ya guys on the stream, Rich
  4. Well I got a Fishpond chest pack and another net. Bought a nipper and tippet, strike indicators, fly box, tag holder and a few flys and some other lures and misc other must haves. I hit the water around 3pm and started out in Zone2 and did pretty well for mostly small fish. I did catch a couple that were halfway decent though. It took me 3 changes to pretty well figure out what they were after. I fished there till about 6:15pm and then moved up above the dam along the hatchery inlet board and continued to pretty much hammer them till the whistle blew. Now it's back to the camper to tie up some needed flies. Luckily I brought my vise and all my stuff to tie stuff while I'm here.
  5. OK That's it!!!!! My dumb are went off and forgot my vest and net.... ARGH!!!!!!! Oh well I guess Terry jinxed me and told me Charlie had everything I needed. LOL I guess I'll buy a chest pack and another net and tools set up. Heck it's just money right??? Well hope to catch some fish at least.
  6. Took off Friday and plan on staying till Sunday afternoon. Maybe the rain will hold off and the cool temps will make it an excellent weekend for fishing and camping. Not sure where I'll camp yet till I get there tomorrow and see whats there. Bought a new 4wt and spool for the Abel pt.5 reel so I wouldn't have to buy another reel. I'll say it one more time....I am done buying rods.LOL Cya if you are there, Rich
  7. Working my butt off just to fish and hunt.

  8. To all that made it this year, Thanks for coming and meeting up with us all. We had a pretty good lunch and a few of us sat around and put back a few cold ones Sunday eve after fishing. Monday eve RcGuy stopped by camp with my brother and I and we q'd up some dogs and pork-n-beans. I had a couple rounds of the capt and Coke to pass the night along. A good campfire and good talk in an empty campground till pretty late. Most of my fishing while I was there was pretty productive. Midges and G'nats and CB's seemed to be the ticket for me. I fished Zone 1 and 2 pretty much equally I think and both provided enough action to keep me interested. The only issue I had was the lack of size to all the fish most people were catching. I did have an occasional decent sized fish brought to net once in about every 10 fish but most were pretty much around 9-10" fish. One thing I did notice was when I was midge fishing the amount of small fish I caught were fish that seemed to have been in the stream a while. Their bottom fin tips were white and you could tell that they had been in the stream a while. They bellied easy to release and most fish right out of the hatchery just don't do that..
  9. I don't know if any pics were taken. I know I was going to take some under water pics of all the fish that were around my feet every where I walked in zone 1. For some reason I just can't remember to grab my camera from my bag in the truck.
  10. Glad you could make it and maybe we can do it again in the winter season. I think my brother even had a good time.....LOL He finally listened to me a little and I had him catching fish. I guess the little brother knew more than he thought......LOL
  11. Tie 6 of everything that way you will be covered. I have not figured them out yet but I am catching fish after changing up quite a bit.
  12. I'm here now and campground 4 isn't even close to full. Campground 5 should have plenty of spots.
  13. Well, It's official. I'm on vacation I will be down Friday morning at about 9am. Gonna be a well needed trip to recharge. Hope to see you all Sunday for lunch.
  14. I don't know if I could sit here at home most of the time and make a good assumption of what the park ranger does the days that I am not there. I know I see them drive through the campground at night and during the day. Nor can I say what they should or should not be paid. I know I could not do the work that most LE do for what they are paid. I don't put my life on the line to defend the general public everyday. I know that the park ranger probably does not run as high of a risk as a municipal officer but he still runs the risk to some degree. If he didn't he would not be wearing a side arm. What I don't know is if a park rangers job could not be done by someone else in uniform. It becomes a fine line for the PR to walk. If he does his job too well he becomes disliked and if he does not do his job to everyone's liking he is still in the same boat. I am just glad that they are there and provide a presence of some degree. Could it be done better??? Who is to say how it is to be done and to what degree?? It is easy to criticize but it is not so easy to come up with a good answer. JM2C
  15. Jerry, Thanks but I was just joking bud. I can tie up enough stuff to fish for a week the night before I head down. I can tie a couple dozen midges prettyquik
  16. Jerry, I may have to borrow some flys from you buddy. LOL I worked 67 hours last week and I was intending on tying up some stuff to fish with. I may just have to take my vise and junk with me to do it while I'm there. Midges and CB's is all I need anyway. Just need to make them in about 6 diff colors each. I have been seeing quite a few hoppers still around so I'll probably be running a hopper and dropper. Cyaall there on Sunday. I should be there either Thursday night or friday early.
  17. Nope...Ain't happenin. Me no clean poop. No matter how much money is invloved.
  18. No Ugly Stik don't make a fly rod that I know of.
  19. Yeah JJ needs to see about Ugly Stick making him a fly rod. They claim their rods are indestructible.Don't worry Jon Larry's has more rods on the rack. LOL
  20. JJ I have a spot reserved in CG #4. But it is pretty small. I hope my brother don't have to park his car at the showers. But I'm only about 150yds from the showers if he does.If somebody gets there and camps starting early friday morning CG #5 has some good size spots. I sure hope it cools down some before then though. I am wore out from working in this stuff. I have been inside at a plant that is nearly 125 deg for the last week. Depending on what is going on this weekend I may hit Bennett for a day or 2.
  21. Ha!! See what happens when you start getting old???? I pretty much surrendered my drinking challenge after a few nights trying to prove that I was still young enough to recover like I was still 25. Then reality kicked in and reminded me that I needed to add 20 more years to my age assessment.
  22. Or stayed up all night drinking and don't remember how to cook breakfast.
  23. Yes you were wrong. You can use multiple hooks as long as its on 1 line and each hook is a single hook. It's been hashed over and over here and its perfectly legal. Most people just don't know how to interpret the rules. It does get kind of gray though but most of us that fish Bennett and Montauk on a regular basis use a dropper on occasion.
  24. Jerry, You do mean the 29th right ??
  25. Yeah I hear ya about them small towns. Luckily I don't have to contend with those until I get to Lebanon. Then if I get there early enough I don't really have to deal with that either.
