  1. Humminbird 2012 Software Update for the 898c and 998c... You will have the ability to remove the readout boxes on the Left side of your Side Imaging View and now have the depth and the temp displayed at the bottom of the screen. Now you can maximize your viewing area for Side Imaging. This software will be released in January for the 898 and the 998. This is similar to the 798c Currently offers and the 1198c already has Bottom Readout Display. This will maximize the Screen Display for Side Imaging View giving you more Square Inches for Viewing the Data. SI View Square Inches of Viewing Now Increased: 798c: 12.234 Square Inches 898c: 22.203 Square Inches - Upgrade Increases 6.172 Square Inches 998c: 29.218 Square Inches - Upgrade Increases 7.906 Square Inches 1198c: 48.15 Square Inches
  2. One of the most awesome features of Side Imaging is the ability to mark waypoints away from the boat and the exact position with the 4Way Cursor. When you see fish or structure you want to mark just use the 4 Way Cursor and move over the structure you want to mark and hit the mark button and you have created a waypoint exactly on top of the structure not the boat position. In this image I have moved the cursor over the rock pile and you can see the Rock Pile Was 87.4 Foot to the Right of the boat Path and is current 155 feet away if I head 197 Degree Bearing from my current boat position. One thing I like to do when I have a large area like a rock pile I want to fish is add multiple waypoints so I can see the complete outline on the GPS View so I can line up and fish the structure. The Red Dots would be an example of how I mark a Rock Pile or piece of structure so I can see the shape on the GPS View to make it easier to line-up to fish. Here's a sample of the GPS VIEW I did on a rock pile...
  3. Any high frequency sonar system requires movement to create picture like images. The most detail is obtained by the slowest steadiest speed to create the best images. on my transom mounted transducer I always idle at the slowest possible speed to get the most details and match chart speed to the boat speed. Fluctuating speed will change the image and crispness in the image but it does not keep the data from displaying just not picture perfect. That doesn't stop you from finding fish or fish holding structure...that to me is far more important than having a picture perfect image.
  4. The Great Plains Chip has the Missouri Lakes but they are limited for the first year. Truman, Stockton, Pomme De Terre, Longview, Clearwater and Blue Springs. Johnson Outdoors (Humminbird Parent Company) just purchased LakeMaster and there are plans to add alot more lakes soon. THe additional capital and resources from Johnson Outdoors will see more lakes added and new regions.
  5. Reduce your sensitivity the hard rocks are over power the structure return data on the screen.
  6. This clip helps alot on how Side Imaging Works: The top image is the Old MO13 Highway Bridge Second Image is one of the New MO13 Hwy Bridge Pilings Bottom two images are shot with the 2 different frequencies 455 and 800 KHz of old rock Quarry. Settings use the same as this video:
  7. Humminbird has been providing Side Imaging Technology since 2004. Easy to install and self contained with all elements in a single transducer. Side Imaging is awesome on the trolling motor as well as the transom. With Humminbird you can Ethernet and share transducer, GPS and Temp Probes. The neat part is you can mount a transducer to either location without any extra accessories and share the data as you desire. Simple to operate and easy to understand and produces awesome images. Humminbird offers many advanced features that allow you to use the units as you desire. Like SI Enhance SHarpness that is the most awesome fish finding tool for SI Images, Contour Mode, Switchfire 2D Sonar System and Down Imaging with 3 user selectable widths...Plus they help maintain your investment with downloads for many years after your investment...SI units from 2004 still being supported with new free to download updates.
  8. 455kHz 800kHz
  9. I personally don't use the 800kHz due to it's more limited coverage area versus the 455kHz; but I was playing around a little today and scanning the river bed and flipped to 800kHz and got some interesting images. Might have to start playing with it more as it offers a different view of the underwater world. Check out these images of the old river channel below one of my local lakes.
  10. Lake Master Maps has expanded into the Southern Market with maps now available for Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa and northern reaches. Depth Highlight off You can set a Depth Hightlight from a target depth and range for highlighting the target depth in green You can set a Depth Offset and it changes the contour line Numbers You can set a shallow water highlight to highlight shallow water areas too You can Zoom in to the lowest level 20ft Range and still see contour lines Road Beds and Creek Channels are shown too You can change the depth colors Truman Lake in Missouri is scanned farther up the creek channels... Tebo Arm: Little Tebo: Little Pomme: Big Pomme: Osage Arm almost to Osecola Truman Lake Grand River Arm... PowerLine Area PrettyBob Creek Area Deepwater Creek at 13 Hwy Grand River at 13 Hwy
  11. Thanks for the comments...I enjoy the opportunity to help others. I've got 2 Hours of Footage from Sunday...Advanced Sonar Seminar and trying to figure out how to edit to get it published on the internet. But will try to get it posted so others that could not attend can learn from the information presented. I'll try to post once I find the best solution to host on the Internet.
  12. In the Flier that just came out has an Incentive to give away a Fishing Trip to Florida with Sam Heaton from Humminbird/MinnKota from those attending a Johnson Outdoors Days Event at Cabelas...Like $2,000 Value. Plus you get to learn more. I have just finished 3 Totally New Presentations for the event...Looking forward to seeing everyone.
  13. Here are some examples of the effects of not adjusting the Chart Speed to match the boat speed and how it can distort the data. Chart Speed matching Boat Speed...see the details? Now the Chart Speed increased and loss of resolution and stretching of data... Same thing happens with Down Imaging... Too Fast... Still a little fast... Just Right... Now Switchfire 2D Sonar... Matched to boat Speed... Too Fast... (elongates returns) Adjusting your Chart Speed will help you get your images just like the images are naturally positioned under the water. To fast will stretch the images and too slow will shrink the data. Using the Chart Speed function is probably the Most Important element in creating picture perfect images. I try to match or drop a 1 number below chart speed for higher resolution images if you want to stretch them a little to see more separation of details adjust 1 or 2 numbers above boat speed but don't crank it up it will make the images lose alot of the resolution to the images

  16. Some of the current models have already been released others are coming. Humminbird starts with the most current models and works backwards.
  17. There are four new software features in the Side Imaging Units for 2011. They are: * Contour / Terrain Mode * SI Navigation * Down Imaging Zoom * Side Imaging Range Lines These features are in the 2011 798ci SI HD, 898cSI, 998c SI and 1198c SI models. Software upgrades for previous side imaging units (1197,997,987 and 798). The 797 and 981 will not get these software upgrades due to limitations in the units. Contour Modes: With Contour Mode OFF the water column is shown as it has been since we first came out with SI. Showing the water column can be valuable as it shows suspended fish and great shots of structure near or under the boat; however, the display of the water column can be confusing to some OFF: ON: OFF: ON: SI Range Lines: The SI Range Lines can be turned OFF or ON from a setting under the SONAR tab. The Range Lines give the user a quick reference of how far objects are away from the boat. Side Imaging Navigation: When you are Navigating (GOTO) to a waypoint NOTE the boat icon on top of the side imaging screen will point to the direction of the waypoint. This icon will move around to provide the direction to the waypoint. Down Imaging Zoom: New Software Feature. Ability to Zoom in on DI

  20. Check out these super cool images from my buddy Mike Bucca from his Humminbird 1197c: Took these from this morning.. Notice how these fish are over a channel in every shot. Very typical for my lake. They relate to the channel as structure even though they are suspending above it. Crisp enough??
  21. With Humminbird you have to Manually Turn On and Off the Daylight Savings Time Feature. Go to Master Menu (Hit Menu Button Twice) then to DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME and using 4Way Cursor turn it to OFF and the time will be corrected to reflect No Daylight Savings Time. Daylight Savings Time Changes Saturday Nov 6, 2010.
  22. Here's a Picture with Humminbird Side Imaging showing fish on a Dock Cable:
  23. I know Table Rock is void of aquatic vegetation but when the lake rises into the bushes and grass you can do the same thing. Found some guests hanging around one of my grass beds today... And found one willing to meet me...
  24. Here's some cool images from a buddy of mine of fish from Humminbird in Switchfire 2D and Down Imaging...
  25. These images were from a Trolling Motor Mounted Side Imaging: That speed fallacy is false...I've been using SI on the trolling motor for many years and has been very beneficial. I don't work for Humminbird but do receive promotional help from them. I'm just an SI Addict and enjoy helping others.
