Wow, they don't give out waterfowl stamps anymore? It's been years since I have been, that's crazy. It would be cool to get fishing stamps, small mouth, trout etc. I guess I wasn't alive when they did that.

Thanks for the comments guys! When it comes down to it, catching these little beauties on a fly rod is probably my favorite kind of fishing!
-
Well I got out the fly rod today and figured I'd go see what the Ponds looked like. I didn't see much of any spawning activity but the greens and gills are starting to move out of the depths into shallower water. I manage to land quite a few along with a couple that were decent size on a lightly weighted Mohair. All and all I had a great time and got a chance to try out the new camera on these two Greenies!! Gotta love spring!

I recently picked up a pair of Korker's. They are very light and I like them so far. At a little over 80 bucks not a bad price either.

Going To Bennett March 12 Weeend

No problem man. I have only fished two of the Missouri Trout Parks. The two being Bennett and Roaring River. I really like both, however I'm partial to Bennett. Bennett is where I learned to fly back in the day so I like to go there. I also prefer it because you can wade the water and the water changes throughout the park. Roaring River is a great park though. Most of it is restricted to bank fishing but it serves a good purpose and it's small enough that getting in the water wouldn't help much anyway. Give them both a try if you get the chance. -

Bennet Springs is a great park, here are my suggestions. Aside from fly's you need to fish a light leader and tippet. A 9ft 6x/3lb test leader and tippet will work. I even use 7x/2lb test tippet when the fish are picky. As far as fly selection I like to fish small. Size 14,16,18 in Pheasant Tail Nymphs or Hairs ears under an indicator work. Scuds in the same sizes tan, gray, and olive in color under an indicator. Midges also work well in size 16,18 black and red. Adjust your lead shot according to the current and focus on getting a clean drift with your setup and you should do fine. I also suggest fishing in Zone 2. I think the water has a few more features that make it more fun to fish but zone 1 is great as well. If your there for the weekend I would dedicate a day to each. I'm far from an expert but I think that will get you started. I'm sure some others will chime in and help you out. Good luck and have fun! -
Thanks a lot guys. I was hoping it was the second weekend in February but it is indeed the second Monday in February. I just thought I'd ask before I made the drive.

February 15 is the last day of C&R right? I think I might go Monday I just wanted to make sure. Thanks

Bennet is the one trout park that i like to fish and it's good to hear they are wanting to improve. I do agree a fish cleaning station is in dire need and has been for quite some time. Not having fish remains in the water would definitely be an improvement to the quality of fishing.

On Feb 2 I decided to make a trip to Crane and just explore and fish a bit. I had only been to the creek a couple times before and since my wading boots had blown out on me a week earlier, I was stuck to the bank. I arrived early at the Wire Road access and proceeded upstream from there. I saw a few sow bugs in the water, but not having any I went with a 14 grey scud and hooked a couple very small ones. I changed over to a 16 GRHE BH and kept pushing up stream. I found it very difficult to approach/cast to most of the holes without getting in the water. I finally found the perfect little hole for my situation and crawled up to it on my knees. I found myself behind a big tree I used for cover and flipped my HE upstream. I followed it down using a high stick approach and there it was. I set the hook and saw my first sizable McLoud rainbow role over on the bottom. I pulled the beauty up and I saw colors I have never seen on a rainbow in my life. I guessed the fish to be approx 12-14in and after a short battle he came off. I was happy that I finally hooked up with my first good McCloud and pretty much just explored the rest of the day wishing I had my waders, saw some really nice fish while doing so. I used to fly fish a lot when I was in my teens and for awhile took a break. I'm finally back to fishing and tying and don't see myself straying anytime soon. I'm also new to the site and I have to say there is a lot of good reading in here. I for sure cant wait to get back to Crane and learn some more about those beautiful fish.
