  1. Sorry I could not make it. I was in a wedding in Springfield on Saturday, so that pretty much kept me occupied. Did manage to sneak down to Taney for a few hours early Friday morning. I was catching fish, but being so tired I went back to the truck to take a quick nap and didn't wake up until 9:00 A.M.. Drove back to Springfield, and never made it back down. Did you try any night fishing at the Current? jrbhc8
  2. Thanks everyone, this is helping me out alot. The report is coming along well.
  3. Thanks...I didn't even try a search. I thought no one on here would come up with such a list. John
  4. For one of my extra curricular courses I am taking Etymology, the study of word orgins. For my project I am working on a report to share my findings on slang terms used in fishing. If you have any please feel free to share and tell where you heard the term and the orgin if you know it. It would greatly help me. Here's a few generic examples below: I am looking for some good "Ozarks" slang, so fire away everyone. Thanks, John baby killer = someone who keeps small fish Barney = a term used to describe an angler who claims know everything but can't get hung. The term came from "The Andy Grifith Show" Barney Fife claimed to know everything but truly knew nothing. Boil = Topwater disturbance caused by big fish chasing little fish
  5. How is Taney fishing? I know they have been running a little water lately, but have they been turning it off any? I mainly plan on night fishing. Any reports out there before I make the drive.
  6. Nice to see that you caught a few. I fished Montauk again on Saturday from 12-4. Started in the C&R and broke off on two big ones, then finally landed a beautiful blue and red rainbow. Not your typical rainbow trout colors. Messed around in the park for another hour or so, picking up fish everywhere. Almost on demand. Decided to go outside the park in the trophy area to mess around and ended up catching a few decent bows and one nice brown. It was a good days fishing for me. No pics, they are still on my friends camera. Plan to go at least one more time to target some of the bigger fish we scouted out in the river. jrbhc8
  7. I try to throw a variety when I am there. Too my suprise I am very low on bigger flies, so I had to stick with the smaller stuff for most of the day. Caught the C&R rainbow on olive sculpin, and the spillway rainbow on a scud. Just about anything will work, do not be afraid to try something just becuase no one mentions it on here. jrbhc8
  8. Here's some pics. One was caught in the C&R area, the other at the spillway. That fish suprised me, I didn't expect to catch it out of there. Both fish are in the 3-4lb range.
  9. I fished there last Friday when the weather was nice. I would say that the stream is in good shape. Plenty Clear. I will try to post some pics of a few I caught the other day. No monsters though. I spent most of the day introducing fly fishing to one of my college friends. Needless to say it was a long day!! jrbhc8
  10. I would. I fished the park last weekend and caught a few, but thats it. (couple 20 inchers, no pics I was by myself) I had to force feed them to bite, but eventually they did. There are some big fish in the park that I spotted, but everything is above the cable where we can't fish. No joke I spotted at least an 8 lb rainbow laying up against the bank. Also spotted a 10lb plus, couldn't tell if it was a brown or rainbow, but it was huge!! I tried fishing for the smaller fish when I got bored, but they had lock jaw. Does anyone know if they are actually going to stock some fish down there this year? jrbhc8
  11. Just letting everyone know that I will be down after 12:00 P.M. on Friday for some C&R. Anyone else going to be there or will I have the place to myself? I'll be in the Trout Chapters rig if you see me. later, jrbhc8
  12. I was able to save a few trout last time I was down. Water had been off for an hour and I found some pockets where some fish got trapped. I am talking 20+ fish here, browns and rainbows mixed trapped with less than 1 in of water. I quickly scooped them up in my net a rushed them down to the water. Amazingly after 30 minutes I had revived them all. Sad part is later that night I seen a 5lb rainbow dead becuase of the same situation. Also sad becuase I know this is going on everytime the water is turned off and on. Does anyone think it would be a good idea to fill in the holes or try to level them out with lose gravel to prevent this from happening? Or should we just let nature take its course? Anyways that my opinion on where all the dead fish are coming from up in the trophy area. jrbhc8
  13. The picture of the spoonbill is PRICELESS!!! jrbhc8
  14. Welcome to the dark side. Getting away from Taneycomo I think will be a good thing for you. It will expand your toolbox of tricks for catching trout. Plus anytime you get to explore some new water is always a bonus. Let Jared know when you are coming and I will try my best to meet up with you guys. I'll be in Missouri until May 24 and then I will be in Michigan for 3 months this summer. So no Taneycomo for me this summer. Hopefully I will find some new water up there. later, jrbhc8
  15. Seth, I heard a rumor that they lost a bunch of fish. Did you happen to go up to the hatchery to check it out? I wish I had some pics to post, but when all the rain came, my dad said that you could fish standing off Highway 8!! He said water made it up all the way to the main building where you buy tags. jrbhc8
