  2. I presently have an Old Town Nantucket touring yak and a Wilderness Systems Cape Lookout touring yak for sale. Both are 2002 year model hulls, were paddled by my son and wife, have rudders, and are 14'5" in length. They come with spray skirts and storage covers for the cockpits. A really good buy at 650 for both. We live east of Fayetteville. I need to shed rid of em for another boat and will be glad to deal. Please let me know if you're interested.
  3. The Boxley Baptist Church, often photographed and one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Boxley Valley Historic District of the Upper Buffalo, is in need of repairs and the congregation is short of funds. If this beautiful structure is left to disrepair the landscape will change for the worst. Please help by sending any contribution you can to: Boxley Baptist Church Restoration of Community Building HC70 Box 13 Ponca, AR 72670 Thanks to all.
  4. Put in at Steel Creek early on a Tuesday morning, paddle to the ledge across from Big Bluff and camp. Next day paddle to the island across from Camp Orr and camp. Third day paddle to Camp Ozark and take out. If you go beyond that, Hasty would be the last place to take out after a long 9 miles of some dead water. Call Mike Mills at Buffalo Outdoor Center and he can arrange the shuttle for you. Plan on stopping below several of the "rock gardens" and walking back up to fish those stretches. Scout out any of the hard right hand turns before you enter if you feel insecure with kids and you won't have a problem. That is all class II, the most difficult section is the run at "Hell's 1/2 Acre" just above Indian Creek due to the standing waves at times. The most useful guide out right now is Buffalo River Handbook by Ken Smith. Fishing is generally good, and should be better this year because of the constant water flow over the last two years. River traffic on that section during the week is much lighter during the mid-week in April, but some pretty obnoxious drunkards show up on the weekends. You'll return year after year.
  5. The first river I ever paddled was the Ouachita, 1972. It has uninterrupted runs from the largest and most natural body of water in the state and is in one of the most remote counties. Small mouth is good, google eye great, and hybrid whites wonderful during their run. Shhhhhh, don't tell anyone.
