Sure has a lot of people fooled, including the staff at the park office. And these guys - http://www.moenviron.org/ONSR.asp.

A "National Park area" is different than a National Park? http://www.nps.gov/ozar/index.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozark_National_Scenic_Riverways
-
Wonder how they would/could close the river. If the government shut-down happens and the national parks close as a result, doesn't that mean those who enforce the park will not be working?

For spin rig I use flouro leaders tied to braid.

Just slightly murky and a few inches high from Tan Vat to Parker.

I guess that question could have been meant differently. If you meant how did I happen upon the thing, it was just a case of following a lot of forums and wondering if there was an easier way on my phone, leading to a google search for 'forum iphone app' about a year or so ago...
-
On iPhone open the App Store > search "tapatalk" choose it and install. Or open itunes and search tapatalk, download and sync. Looks like the free version is not available any longer. So only people who want to fork out the hefty sum of $2.99 need apply.

You can use the free version to just view. Paid version allows you to reply. Let this be the first iPhone reply.

You might want to consider enabling http://www.tapatalk.com/ on the forum.

Received a response from MDC on the photos. Notes from phone conversation: Although there obviously isn't enough information in the photos to conclude it was a mountian lion, there are aspects of the photos....shape and size....that are "cat like". In some of the photos it looks like there could be claw prints which normally would preclude a cat since their claws are retracted when walking. However, a ML when running after a deer could result in tracks showing claw marks. Given the remoteness of the area, and particularly the proximity to the very remote areas to the immediate south, it is these areas that they expect migrating mountain lions to settle.......not so much the northwestern plains where the one was shot last week. They suspect that one was still migrating to find a more remote area.

There was one confirmed in Shannon in 06. See my link in an earlier post.

I agree. With no other information at hand, I would discount those tracks as canine. But they sure do appear to be tear dropped pads. The variable is that an older fella told my friend about watching the cat chase a deer, and then took him to the spot. Wind and the resulting blowing snow makes it hard to verify the third lobe impression. What's not hard to verify is that MDC verified a M Lion in Shannon county just a few year ago, based upon prints and the remains of a deer carcass. Who knows - but I can tell you that the hikes I routinely take since that verification always result in me looking up in the trees as I hike. Unrelated - I have some good photos of a 5 ft timber rattler from Parker Hollow this summer. Not sure which bothers me more; A ML or clumsily hiking through the hills and leaves knowing there are rattlers like that around. As for bobcats, we captured the largest I have ever seen, first hand, from a game cam just a few days before deer season. Beautiful kitty. It was so darn big that many folks would immediately think 'ML.' Based on the photos of the ML tracks, I think it might be hard for MDC to verify (blowing snow), but my friend and I have already said that the next snow we are headed down to try and get some better pics. It's hard to discount the story of the muzzle loading hunter after he was asked to go back to the spot and see the prints though.

These were taken last week by a friend who was down fishing. He happened upon a fellow out hunting who told him that he had just seen a mountain lion chasing a deer. Told him the tail was darn near as long as the body, which eliminates a bobcat. My friend asked him to take him to the spot. The photos are from the spot the guy took him to. Tear-drop shape, right size - guess there could be some kitty's in the hood. Photos have been sent to MDC. Will be interesting to hear back from them. Location was up the hill from the Derry Berry hole.

Me thinks there has been a lot of baiting in this thread. Suckers!
-
Agree. In fact as soon as the Blue Ribbon portion of the Current becomes the Blue Ribbon Sucker area, I will be the first in line supporting such a fly fishing ban.
-
Yes, I see what you are saying, Gavin.
-
Certainly nothing unusual, as I have seen people snagging on the blue ribbon portion quite a few times. However, after a review of the MDC site, I'm wondering if it's legal in the BR portion. Does "On the Current River from Cedar Grove downstream to Arkansas line, only 5 hogsuckers may be included in a daily limit" mean it's not legal or what? (Link). While I could give a rat's behind if someone is snagging suckers, I have come across some fellers one time who had a 5 gal bucket who appeared to be snagging - only their bucket had some large trout in it too, which I noticed after they abandoned the bucket hauled butt through the woods as I happened upon them. As to reporting fishing violations. there's always Operation Game Thief - 800.392.1111. I believe there's also an MDC agent office at Montauk. And of course you can call the federallies at the NPS office - 573-323-4236.

There's at least one forum member who has assisted with this. Maybe he will chime in...
-
Certainly, if that were the case. If someone came at me with a screwdriver, they are going to be met with the barrel of my choice that day to carry (likely a Khar PM40 that fits conveniently in a vest ). But as it relates to this thread/situation, the guy "walked away" towards his van...

Works at Baptist for some phones. My iPhone works there, but some other phones on the same network were not getting a signal. You can't justify even pulling a weapon out in such a matter. But should you have one with you, you might be more comfortable in confronting the crook, just knowing that if THEY initiate force or threaten harm that you have something for protection. Last resort.
-
I was always under the assumption that weapons must be cased an unloaded when in the ONSR (unless hunting). Primarily because of signs posted and this document, which was the only thing I could find on the ONSR NPS site last I looked (more than a year ago). However, a google of the subject returns numerous URL's that mention the firearms ban was lifted early this year (example). And now I see the ONSR site has posted this document, which verifies that information. IMHO, good for the law abiding citizens - bad news for the criminals; They could care less if they are permitted to carry a firearm or not. Too many times I have run across situations that were threatening to me. Portable meth labs that you happen upon at night, un-leashed aggressive pit bulls, large crowds of idiots screaming and doing their best to intimidate you, etc. I certainly hope I never would have to pull the weapon (last resort), but I sure would feel a whole lot more comfortable having it with me at certain times.

Fat chance on getting law enforcement to run finger prints for something like this.

Did he do any damage? FWIW in the future, my cell phone works at Baptist now (since the new tower).
