Well how did you do? I don't fish tourny's, it just takes something I really enjoy doing and turns it into work. I would however love to fish the crappiemasters.net tourny for a living. To think about it fishing is about the only thing I am doing right now since I have been out of work for the last three months, so its kind of like work except its alot easier to get up to go fishing then it ever was to go to work.

I was fishing LOZ a few weeks ago off of a private dock, and was doing fairly well when a boat of three guys pulled up next to the dock and started to cast in the same empty well that I was fishing in. I thougt ok they should move on quickly or I am going to get very upset, however they did not. After about five or six cast they found the crappie and set anchore, I was not too pleased and voiced my opion, but it fell on deaf ears(and very foul mouths) so I packed up and went in. I called the water patrol which told me it was a game wardens problem, called the game warden which I know (for good reasons) he said unless they are tied to the dock or fishing from the dock there was nothing he could do since its all public water. Ok I was heated so instead of standing there watching them catch "my fish" I went to town a got lunch bought more tackle and bait hoping when I returned they would be gone. Not only were they still there but so was the game warden and water patrol, seeing how I could be upset at this the game warden decided to stop by and check these guys out thinking they would just move on afterwards, but it seems two of them from out of state had no license and they had small bass and crappie in the live well. Doing a little more probing he found that the boat had been reported stolen from a guy near Kirksville. So all in all I guess I must believe in karma, btw I fished in the afternoon and caught my limit within an hour.

BigMinnow replied to Daveinozark's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I get them at Trantham's Bait on west Chestnut if I am getting a dozen or two, if I know I am going to do lots of fishing around LOZ I get them from a buddy up there that orders them online for $0.59 a dozen, but I think thet go for around $1.50-$2.00 localy. -
Mcdaniels Crappie Fishin
BigMinnow replied to Daveinozark's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I went out this morning for about 5hrs threw the whole tackle box at them and not a bite. I didn't try minnows since the bait shop wasn't open when I went. I don;t know what works and what doesn't I try a little bit of everything intill I get a bite then I just try to repeat it, if it stops working change it up. I was slow swimming last weekend with some tube jigs and caught a bunch of little ones all of the big ones were from minnows. -

I don't think they will be shallow. If you try the shallows and all you get are dinks move to the bridge in 10+fow and fish minnows a foot or two off of the bottom. If you are not the minnow type use a jig(might need a brighter color since the water will be merky such as yellow, chatrouse, brigh pink tail with white body always does well for me). I caught a lot of fish in McDaniels last weekend during the rain keep a few biger ones for dinner. Hope that helps, good luck. -

oh, I would love to have it but no $$$ right now, not having a job is a blessing and a curse all in one, all the time to fish and hunt but no money to do it. -
I helped with a weigh in last weekend during the rain on Saturday 3/4 of the baots weighed in most had 5 fish, 29.98 won the tourny about 10 or more 5#+ fish big fish was 8.56. Seemed everyone that fished in the rain caught fish, mostly heard guys fishing the backs of coves in 10 fow or less pulling a spinner when the rain let up and jigging a worm or plastic when it was pouring. From the looks of it you will be in the rain again this weekend, good luck.

Yeah, so now she wants a princess boat, the best I can figure out is she wants a bass boat with all of the sparkly glitter on it. So I will be taking donations, lol. Maybe if I find a job then I can buy a little jon-boat in that will do. For now she is just going to have to stick with her princess fishing pole.

I am totaly for the park, and a little more security, but not boats unless it's a boat with no motor (i.e. baddle boat, canoe, yak, or even a flat bottom with ores). I just think boats with motors could cause more problems and its not that big of a lake. I have totaly fallen for this lake but it needs a lot of work. As far as water skiing on Fellows I got that from the brochure with the map on it they gave it to me a the marina, it says you can water ski in the main body of the lake and has it drawn out on the map. If I had a scanner I would post it. -
I am new to fishing Mcdaniels, however I have never seen a lake shore so littered with trash and fish guck. I know if I were in so sort of position with C.U. and I was too see it, I would close all fishing. I do hope this never happens, and people can start taking the time to pick up after them selfs. I would also like to see a couple of thash cans on each end of the bridge, then maybe the idiots wouldn't have a reason to "forget" their trash. Side note why do they not let you wade fish in Fellows but will let you water ski. That just does not make since to me.

Went out for the first time in over 10 years, this morning, and called in my first long beard. He was 24 pounds, with 1 1/4 inch spurs, and 12 inch beard. I thought since I am unemployed I would give it a go, not expecting to fill a tag at 7am opening morning.

Took my 2 year old daughter fishing with me last weekend, since she has been begging to go every time I do. It was her first time out so I talk to a buddy and he let us go to his pond and do a little fishing. I want to the back yard got a couple of worms and took my left over minnows that I was useing the day before for crappie. Got a few poles and we headed out, not letting her that we were going fishing. When we pulled up by the pond she knew that we were there to fish, I tried to play dumb, but she wasn't buying it. We got out riged one pole with a worm and another with a minnow, I went over and started gigging, and she seat down watching her bobbers like I told her to do. After about 15 min she started reeling in the pole with the minnow on it, I told her to stop so she could catch a fish, she didn't listen. The next thing I know she is standing by the edge of the water acting as if she is going to trow my pole in the water. I reached over and graped my pole and told her to seat down, only to relize there was sometugging on the other end of the pole. I handed her back the pole holding on to it just enough to keep it from going in the water and she reeled in her first catch. She ended up with 3 bass and 8 pearch that day, know she gets up every morning asking to go fishing. The bass were 14" 18" and 24" She is in the pic of the 18" and I am holding her 24" she caught it but didn't want her pic taken anymore so I am taking credit for it.

been there wily, will check on those two gilly. Yeah this whole idea is still a big dream but getting a little closer everyday. I am only 30 so talking retiring already is kind of hard to believe but I have a to have something payed off by the time I am ready to retire so thats why I am looking now. I have been unemployed since December 08 with an odd job here and there. If I could make this happen it would be very awsome for me and my family.

Any Luck At Fellows
BigMinnow replied to fisherman wannabe's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Fished fellows and McDaniels lake a couple of times this week, Crappie are still really slow on both. I have no boat so I only fish from docks or banks so maybe they are out a little deeper wee I can't get them. -

I am looking to do some fishing(mainly crappie) but this years has brung some complications, as I no longer have a boat, and only 1 car between my wife and I. If you are going on a fishing trip, boat or no boat, around or going through Springfield/Republic Mo. and would like some company please let me know. You can send me a message on here or email me at bryan_hood@mailcity.com or call me on my cell at 417-496-8226. I am always open for day trips to LOZ or Truman, I was raised on Truman for 13 years and have fished LOZ for 15 years. I would also be up for fishing any other lakes in the area as well. Thanks Bryan A.K.A. BigMinnow
