PC- You did better than I did! I also pulled out the spinning unit and threw a black jig up by the gauge house. Caught a 15" brown and later another bow on same jig down by the handicap. Thank god I went down on Sunday. Was able to catch some descent sized fish below the bridge on a black zebra midge. On Monday evening I managed to get some dry fly action up by the gauge house. The first two days were pretty good until all heck broke loose. The girls in the park store said it was as bad as the flood of '93. Pat

Good luck to you all. Still haven't decided whether to run another 2 hours. Probably just land at BSSP since I have to go through there on the way to MSSP. That's the good thing about holiday, no worries!! Pat

That was profound!

Thinking pretty hard about killing a couple days at Montauk then heading up to BSP to hook up with the boss. Hate to drive the extra 2 hours for unfamiliar waters. But their only unfamilar as long as you let them, right? Pat

Don- That was awesome. Having grew up on a farm I understand his enthusiasm to obtain meat. I let my wife read it, she is an avid reader and a librarian. Her question was, "who is this moron?". We live in the country and have deer all over our property. She did not have any idea that mother nature was so violent!! That's good stuff, even Beesen can't top that! Pat

Nice Pics, hopefully I will be able to hook up with a couple. Was he released? If not what was he munching on? Pat

Cat- Just getting ready to ask if anyone has been there lately. Thanks for the report. Me and D-dog will be leaving the house tomorrow around noonish to head down. Plan on spending the week there. Hopefully the fishing will pick up. Thought about going to Montauk for the first few days then to BSP to meet up with another guy mid-week. But the weather report was a little colder down south (?). Jury is still out. Thanks again for the report! Pat

Joby- Looks like I will by trying out a launch in the near future. My aching ole shoulder coulder could use some relief!! thanks Pat

If your a spin guy the black and yellow tear it up. Hopefully no more rain or snow for a week!! Thanks for the report. Pat

Leonard- What is the recipe for your Seahorses? If they make you fart they got to be good!!

Not trying to change the thread and in respect to Thom's observation at BSP- Has anyone observed violators getting busted? The only time I have seen the CA's it was during the summer and they were working "undercover". Still didn't see them ticket anyone.

Joby- Out of curosity, having not thrown a Sage Launch what is the difference in the LST to the Sage Launch? I threw a high end Sage once and liked it but the $$ was out of my league. The guys at Cabelas have recommended the LST over the Sage. Are they just pushing their product or is there little or no difference? I know when I bought my 3wt LST with the overweighted GPX line at their recommendation, it turned out to be a SWEET little set up. It is my preferred rod for the parks and small streams. I have gotten used to the medium fast action. When I go to my TFO with the medium action it feels real sluggish. I have to slooow down and take my time. Hence the reason that I am interested in this thread. I am thinking I will pick up a medium fast 4 wt to replace my TFO to complete my arsenal! Then maybe look for a 6wt to top it off!! Next time I am there I may have them string a Launch up and take it outside for a test drive! Excellant thread thanks Puff- Pat

I would check Cabela's or BPS

Kyle- You do know if you are not happy regardless how far down the road they will take it back? For sure, the guys at the KCK Cabelas told me if for some reason I didn't like my LST to bring it back and they would let me test drive until I found one. Plus if you want they will rig you one up and take you out to the pond for a test drive!! They are customer service nuts over there. Probably will get better since there are 2 Bass Pro shops in KC area now!! Pat

I slammed my 3wt in the door of the popup last year and broke it in half. Was talking to the guys over at Cabela's fly shop in KCKs. They asked me if I had it. Just so happened it was in the truck. They told me to go get it they might be able to fix it. I ran out to the truck brought it back in. Gave it to Keith or Hap (I think) went back to the store room and brought out a brand new one. His parting words were "hear you go, good as new". Took it up to Customer Service for an even trade. Right now they have a great sale on their Cabela's rods. I own a 3wt and 5wt LST and a 4wt TFO. I would be happy to make a deal to someone for the TFO as I don't use it. The LST's just work better for me! If your on a tight budget as I am I recommend the Cabela's rods. Like Terry said most of the bigger names will warranty the rods with a little jack in return. Temple Fork requires you to pay shipping and $25.00, no questions asked. Been there also. Good luck, Pat

Hoosier- Not to cut in on your thread, but I was wondering how the camping is at Eagles Park. I've stayed in the park only 1 time at Montauk, it was ok. I usually am up at Bennett on the hill in my pop up. Going down the week of 17th (spring break). May have to hit Montauk first part of the week, friends are coming down to BSP later in the week. Thanks! Pat

Kingfish- A 3wt is a niece little piece to have. I currently have 2 Cabela's LST rods, 1 is a 9' 3wt and the other is a 9' 5wt. I also have a 9' 4wt TFO. I have found myself rigging the 5wt with my full sink line and the 3wt for drys and nymph/midge fishing. The 4wt is my backup in case the camper door decides to eat another rod. I have the reels on my LST's loaded the GPX line that is a 1/2 size over weighted. They are fairly fast tips and the 3 wt actually handles big fish pretty well. The best part about the Cabela rods is you can take them back with no questions asked!! My TFO broke 2 times last year and cost me 50 bucks (plus shipping) to get it replaced through Temple Fork. Rumor is Cabela's is going to be having a sale on one of their upper end rods in a week or so. They told me it was a dead ringer for a Sage. I don't remember which one they were talking about but the price with a new large arbor reel was around 300. The reel is a new one that they came out this year with. It is a full aluminum milled out unit! Pat

fly- Good to hear you did well with the stained and high water. I agree with you about the crowders. It would be one thing if they stepped in and started using the same technique, but to step in and do something the opposite....well that is plain and simple rude. Nothing upsets me more than that type of behavior. Unless it is a youngster. I have a little more tolerance especially if they ask what I'm using. Then I have the opportunity to convince them to use a similar technique. They may learn something new!!

rc- I know a great chiropractor in Stanley Ks. Dr. John Wiggins, he is on 135th. He is first one that has actually helped my neck and back and butt and ...... Pat

March 1st Is Approaching Fast!
brittsnbirds replied to flyfishmaster's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Was watching the news last night and noticed that the weather is in favor of the opener. I made a grumbling comment to the boss about not getting to go. Her comment was "why aren't you?" If I would have planned on going she would have had plans. Oh well the pop-up needs some work before Spring Break and I need to get myself organized after my winter fishing. I will hit her with my intention of getting down on the 17th for a week of R&R. Plus Dixie Dawg told me last night she was in need of a camping trip. The boss just laughed and asked me if that was my best excuse!! Good luck to all this weekend. Looks like the water level will be a little up. Pat & Dixie -
hoosier- I bought some 1/80th and 1/100th ounce jig heads. Just happened to be a proud owner of John Deere tractor so I had the paint. I sprayed the heads with 2 light coats of JD Green. Also happened to have some JD Yellow and painted little eyes with a toothpick. Once they dried I tied in a "short" olive marabou tail, palmered some medium olive chenille and viola a John Deere Mini Jig! Personally I think the success in this little gem is the combination of the olive green and the yellow eyes. I have noticed if they did not have the eyes my bites were not as frequent. You can also add a little pearl crystal flash in the tail for effect! BTW, fluorocarbon leader can't hurt either!! Pat

Yea, I can't figure it out. My system is pretty fool (heavy on the fool) proof. But I have been known to make an error. The thing that has me bum fuzzled is I bought 2 boxes, 100 ea of 12's and 14's. I was low about the same amount on both sizes in the little bins. Now the size 12 bin has obviously more than the 14's. I tied just about the same amount of CB's aslo. That's why I think it wasn't me!

Dano- They were in the plastic box with the seal. Note to self, check the box before dumping.

I decided the other day to swing by Cabela's and by some more hooks. Tiemco were only available in 25's. They had Cabela's also in 25's but they were going to cut me a deal on them. The Mustad's were either 25 or 100. So I bought several boxes of 100 count 12's, 14's and 16's. I arrived home and started to put them away in my little plastic hook organizer. Being very careful not to mix the 12's with the 14's. Once they were put away I started tying some Cracklebacks. After about an hour I noticed that some of the 12's were in with the 14's. I pulled the 14's out and spread them out on my bench. To my amazement there were several 12's in with the 14's. Not just a couple but a bunch. I spent the next hour separating them out. After a while they all look the same! Has anyone else had a problem with a company mixing sizes? Pat
