  1. Does anyone know how the muddy water effects stripers? I have posted a few questions before about stripers and have appreciated all the info. I'm the guy from Oklahoma who has been coming up to Beaver several times a year and I am still trying to figure these fish out! I hear that stripers do not like muddy water, but prefer the more clear water. Does this mean that when the mudline starts progressing, the stripers stay ahead of it? If so, it seems it would start concentrating them more in the clear water, thus making them a little easier to find. Or, do they just deal with it and stay spread out over the lake? Just searching the great minds on this site!!! Thanks.
  2. Hi guys. I have been to Beaver a few times this past year, but so far have not had any luck catching stripers. I am still trying to learn where they hang and when, and even how to fish for them. I have a question about umbrella rigs. Do you use your boat motor or trolling motor when trolling these? If you guys have any other advice a simple beginner could use, I would sure appreciate it. I am planning on going back several times this spring and summer to see if I can do any good. Thanks.
  3. Yes, it does come with the mounting bracket. I sent you a PM Duck. Thanks.
  4. Here is the info on it. It comes with the Humminbird Contour XD map, but IMO you are better off to buy a map card if you like a lot of detail. I bought the Navionics Hotmaps card with 14,000 lakes on it. The HD maps for Beaver for instance, are awesome. I am keeping my map card to use in my next one though. If you search around on the net you can find one pretty reasonable, just make sure it has your preferred lake or lakes on it. I don't have the manual with me right now, but I believe there are 8 or 9 screen settings. It has just about everything you could want, except I now want the Side Imaging. I called Humminbird before I put this up for sale, because I wanted to know if there was just a update I could download to get Side Imaging. They told me my model was not compatible for Side Imaging, but that it should have all the latest updates on it already. It has 2 card slots. The info below says Quadrabeam is optional, but that is why I bought it myself instead of ordering the unit with the standard transducer. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. Hope this helps. 5. 2010 Humminbird 788ci Combo w/internal gps Quadrabeam Plus Transducer/transom mount I bought this unit new in October, 2010. I purchased the Quadrabeam Plus transducer separately. I have used it 4 days total. 3 on Beaver and 1 on Tenkiller in Oklahoma where I live. The unit works excellent and is in excellent condition, I am only selling because I want to get one of the new Side Imaging units before spring. I have the boxes and manuals. I will remove the unit from boat when someone wants it. $540.00

  7. Thanks Stump Bumper, I found it. Thanks everyone else for the info. I appreciate it.
  8. Thanks. I have one of the Beaver Lake A.I.D. maps and so far I haven't found Monte Ne. I may just be looking over it or does it happen to go by another name also? Another question just in case I don't do too well catching shad. Is there anyone or anyplace that sells shad or is this illegal in Arkansas. Is there another live baitfish that you can buy that works just as well or are gizzard shad the best?
  9. Hello everyone. I am going to be spending Thanksgiving week on Beaver Lake. I am hoping to find some stripers. I have a cast net and am wanting to try and catch my own bait. Do any of you have any recommendations on areas to find shad. I will probably be putting out at the ramp near HWY 12 bridge or at Rocky Branch. I'm pretty new to striper fishing and have never caught my own bait before, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  10. Thanks guys. I appreciate any info or advice you can give me.
  11. Hello everyone. I am new to the forum. First I want to say thanks for a good, clean website. My family and I have fished for years, but are just getting into striper fishing. So far we are not having much luck. We went on a guided trip with Mike Bailey around the first of June and my two daughters each caught a fish, one being 15 pounds. We decided we would try it ourselves last weekend, so we took my mom and dad's boat and fished Friday and all night Friday night with no luck on stripers. We tried fishing around point 5, 6, and goat island. I just may not have been fishing these areas correctly. I have researched and read all kinds of material trying to learn, but so far it hasn't done me any good. We are planning on coming back in mid October and the week of Thanksgiving ( I'm not one to give up!). I have a lot of questions if someone doesn't mind taking some time with me. 1. What is the best topography to fish in the summer and what kind of structure should you look for? 2. How deep do you fish in the summer? 3. Are there certain sections of the lake that are better in the summer? 4. In the fall, how should a person change their techniques? 5. Is there different topography and structure that you should fish in the fall? 6. What is a creek arm? Is this the area from the mouth of the creek back towards the inland? 7. Do the striper usually hang around the main lake points or do they go up into the "creek arms" and their coves also? 8.When motoring into an area, how far away from your destination should you shut off and use the trolling motor? 9. Are there any books or videos you would recommend? 10.Last one for now? We are thinking about purchasing a boat. I would like a pontoon (16 - 18 ft.) for the kids, but is a pontoon feasible for striper fishing on Beaver lake? I am sure your answers will spur further questions, but I greatly appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks.
