  1. An OAF'er posed the question if there are any fly fishing tournaments or competitions in the State of Missouri. I would also think that any casting events would also qualify. If anyone knows of anything please post. I do know the Beaver Dam Store on the Beaver tail waters in Arkansas has an annual one fly tournament and there may well be fund raising events that are competitive at other places. Dano
  2. Mark Yes you know how I feel about glass. And I would echo everything that Tim said. I would add that glass rods are waxing nostalgic for me in that I grew up using them. Graphite was only on the drawing boards at the time. I feel they are more durable than today's graphite or composite rod materials. Its likely they can take the full force of a tire running over them. The short rods like Tim mentioned may be more sensitive in the tip protecting fine tippets than modern materials. Esthetically they are more pleasing to me. Since glass rods are true medium or full flex actions they fit my casting style. Another reason is that there are few custom glass makers today. I can think of only 2 at the moment. I believe the market is wide open to you. As for lengths weights. I would stray away from anything over 7 ft and weights 5 and under. Tim is right on when he says glass tends to get heavier and bulkier with length. Oh, I forgot to add that you can feel a fish fighting into the butt without ever worrying about it breaking even at the ferrules. I dare say I might be your first customer. Dano
  3. Cricket..this one would have embarrassed Larry Flynt...Dano
  4. Gentleman and Gentle ladies I have been asked to help with this event this year. If you will read over the material and if you can help with this please contact Rick Trowbridge at the email addresses below. Rick is the Southern Region Coordinator Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. The program is a non profit charity that takes wounded vets and soldiers on these trips to help with their rehab and healing process, both mental and physical. If you can find the time and want I think it would do the heart good. This thread will also be pinned to the top for easy access and where updates will be posted.....Dano I also have Rick's cell phone number if you want to talk to him personally about this. Event: 2nd Annual Trip to Lilley's Landing & Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. Date: 18-21 September 2009 Who: 10 Disabled or Wounded Veterans/Soldiers What: 2 days of fishing on Lake Taneycomo Needed: I'm looking for Volunteers that can help with breakfast (potluck) on Saturday and Sunday mornings; should be served around 6:30-7:30 a.m. We'll have catering done for lunch and dinner on both of those days. I've considered Shorty Smalls for Saturday and Golden Corral on Sunday. If there are better suggestions as to a great & inexpensive caterer, please let me know. Volunteers: We are also going to need 8 individuals that will take the participants fishing on Taneycomo. I have two already set-up. The "guides" don't have to be a professional, just someone that loves to fish and wants to share their knowledge of the lake. We ask that the volunteers help the participants with tying on ALL flies, tippets, leaders, etc... The goal is to keep the paticipants from getting too frustrated with the knots, etc...to have a good time. We also observe catch & release only, so I hope that's not an issue. Lodging: I have lodging secured for the participants at the American Inn and Lilley's Landing was very generous with the donation two rooms. I have Sam Tate, a country music writer from Nashville, TN planning on coming in to sing for us and fish with one of the participants. If you or anyone knows of some local music talent that would like to come play for us, that would be wonderful. The Branson Veteran's Task Force said they are trying to get us some show tickets for Saturday night. I'll keep you posted on that. Also needed: Prizes, raffle items, monetary and non-monetary donations, gift bags for each participant (doesn't have to be fishing related), and possibly hats with the Branson logo or something like it. It would be nice to have some "fishing or boonie style hats" donated. What PHWFF will provide: Hats for the Volunteers, lunch & dinner for Saturday and Sunday, fly boxes and possibly fly rods for each participant (if they haven't already received one), and guide fees as applicable. Thank you very much for your help and I'm looking forward to meeting you and all the guys there in September. Very Respectfully, Rick E-mail: phwff.rick@gmail.com or rick.trowbridge@yahoo.com

  7. Thanks to Trout Ringer for pointing out that a spammer got through to post. I am sorry if anyone had to see the garbage that was uploaded. It happens but because of all of you helping police the site it won't last long. The spammer is now gone and all of his posts. Dano
  8. Check out the video about Hooked on a cure and the Bob White painting. http://www.mnbound.com/watch-the-show/2009...nd-episode.html
  9. KC, Mike Mills at BOC is a great host. He sure will treat you nice. I haven't been to the river in a couple of weeks and it was floatable then, but not sure this week. We have had some rain but probably not enough. I would opt for below Hasty if you can. I would say Gordon's would accommodate and maybe even BOC. Friend Bobber would be able to tell us more about a decent float. You should be able to wade to take pics at Big Bluff, I don't think that would be a problem. Dano
  10. Dan-o You might look at this thread from the other day about some access. http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?s...c=17252&hl= Another quick trip would be down Highway 7 to Pruitt on the Buffalo. You could walk down river from the accesses and might find some seclusion. Fishing at the Hasty low water bridge area is also a possibility. Dano
  11. Dan Creek fishing in town is not good at all. If you have time take 62/412 East to Pyatt. There is an AGFC access there with parking, canoe launch ramp etc. That might be your best bet. Dano
  12. Heavenly Father listen to our prayers for our friend. We ask that you help those in control of his care be guided by your promise of healing powers. This is asked in your name. Thanks be to God. Amen. Keep us updated BRBF.

  20. She seems to be doing well. I was by there during her supper time and she is interacting with staff and some of the other residents. It is such a great place and she is being well cared for I have to say. Very pleased Mike. Thanks for asking.
  21. As always, thanks for the report Mike. Dano
  22. Jeremy, Excellent. Thanks for explaining what looks like a simple and very effective way of catching trout. Great advice for those new to the sport and those of us who forget the simple techniques. Dano

  24. I saw the picture of the memorial and I think it looks great. An excellent tribute to a fine gentleman who will be missed. We'll definitely get something planned for the future.
