  1. Fished below the dam at the boat ramp area on Saturday. What a beautiful February day with temps soaring above 80 degrees. There were several people fishing below the dam but certainly not crowded by any stretch. No generation occurred overnight so the water was lowest I've seen there (not that I'm an expert or fish there often). An easy walk all the way across the river at the boat ramp. Didn't see anyone catch any trout besides the one I got on a copper john below an indicator. It was a beautiful 12 inch bow which I promptly released. I also didn't see many fish in the water, maybe two over the course of a couple hours. The Trout Guide indicated the AFGC stocks 4000 trout below the dam in both January and February. They were not in evidence this day for whatever reason.
  2. We fished from the 9th through the 11th. The water level was up despite very little generation occuring from Beaver Dam. The explanation I was given is exactly what was given by sfiser above. I did notice that Tablerock was releasing 39M cf of water per hour almost continuously...I thought perhaps the water level might fall in the Beaver Tailwater as a result. We were able to do some limited wading at the boat ramp and Parker Bottoms. The AGFC stocked trout here on Wednesday so the fishing was pretty good despite the conditions.
  3. Thanks for the tips, will look for the shad on the river as stump suggested. I figured we would try some trolling and then drifting live shad if we can find them. I like to vertical jig for eyes off secondary points so we may do some of that as well. Thanks again! -ltf
  4. Thanks F&F!! What you recommend for bait while drifting?
  5. My son and I will be looking for Striper the next 3 to 4 days and also plan to get in some trout fishing below the Dam. I'm pretty sure we can catch the trout, not so sure about the Striper I have a Ranger R72 outfited with 4 rod holders and two downriggers (mounted forward of the dual consoles). My plan is to troll cranks and jigs at various depths -- whatever depth I can find baitfish balls, striper, etc. I would really like to try a baloon line with live shad if I can find any to net. Given my setup, what areas on the Lake should produce Striper right now? I've read and re-read the striper 101 article -- very informative. The author also points out some areas on the map for summer time striper trolling. This will be my third attempt to catch Striper on Beaver. So far I'm batting zero...any advice you can give for this weekend would be highly appreciated! Thanks -ltf
  6. I live 20 minutes from BPS in Olathe, KS and around 40 minutes from the Kansas City, KS Cabela's. I regularly shop both stores but have found Cabela's to be the better stocked store for all around outdoor activities. Cabela's definitely caters to those of us who, along with Black Bass, Crappie, & Catfish, fish for other species of fish like Walleye, Pike, Musky, and Striper. I've purchased all of my Walleye St Croix spinning rod's at this store -- they have a very good selection! I was just there yesterday and picked up more lures (like I don't already have enough!) to take down to BL the first week of June. The KC store sq/ft is a bit misleading. I would venture to say that 20 to 35% of it is dedicated to things other than merchandise. This includes the Kansas Mule Deer museum, kids indoor shooting gallery, and other areas not pertinent to selling merchandise. While these areas add to the ambiance they do in fact take up a lot of the 180K sq/ft the store. So -- a 100K sq/ft store may sound small to you guy's as compared to other stores around the country but it really will come down to how well the lay it out. Consider yourselves lucky to have one going in nearby! Here's a tip that I found has saved me a lot of money at both stores. Before you run down there and spend all your hard earned $$, first check their sales online. Many, many times, I've found the price in the store does not reflect the bargain they have it listed for online. Print a copy of the online merchandise and take it with you, they have to honor it! Keep a tight line! -LTF
  7. I'm going to be heading down to Beaver on June 1st for a few days of Striper fishing with my son and would absolutely love any and all advice you old hands could give me. This will be my third year in a row chasing Beaver Lake Striper. I say chasing, because I've not been very successful. In fact, I've not caught a single Striper!! I've even installed two down riggers in my bass boat for trolling and still no success. I've been researching everything I can find on this site and others in order to improve my chances at nailing one of these beautiful fish. Can anyone tell me what part of the lake I should be concentrating on in early June? Are these fish going to be in the mid lake area or down by the dam? Should I scrap the down rigger's and just go with live Shad on a balloon rig? Just looking for any and all advice....would really like to catch one of these monsters... Thanks -LuvToFish
  8. Thanks for all the great tips! I ended up fishing mostly below the waterfall in zone 1. I used an olive micro jig with a nymph dropper. The jig helped to get me down deep where the fish seemed to be holding. Occasionally I would switch out the nymph which seemed to get the bite going again. What a wonderful fishery! I sure wish I could make it down there this weekend, unfortunately I have to take care of all the stuff I neglected by going down last weekend. Good Luck and save some for seed! -Luvtofish
  9. Hi All! This is my first post here though I've been lurking for awhile Me and a friend are heading down to BS tonight and will be staying through the weekend. It's been 20 years since I've fished there and was wondering if I could get some tips on where the best spots are in both zone 1 and 2, best choice of fly's, techniques that work well there, etc. I've been following the reports from Weaver's for the past few weeks so I've got some idea as to what has been working. Thanks for any and all tips! -luvtofish
