  1. Did a nice overnight float on the creek this last weekend. It was my first time out to Bryant and the first time to get my new kayak out and I'll definatly be back. We put in at the low water bridge on 95 and took out at 181 at sycamore. Along the stretch I was able to catch a few smallies with the largest being about 12 inches. Must've been a busy day on the river cause we had to end up floating almost til dark to find a vacant gravel beach with trees to hang my hobo hammock. I plan on coming back the end of september to do a fall float for my birthday. Any ideas about water levels in the fall? Thanks for the input and lets try and keep this creek our lil secret
  2. Awesome!!! Thats what I like to hear, thanks for the info! Ill let ya know how it goes
  3. Hey guys and gals, Im gonna try and float flat creek again this wednesday but im wondering how high/low the water is. Ill be in a canoe with one other person and cooler so i shouldnt be too heavy Thanks again, Matt P.S. Any ideas for put-in and take-out spots for a nice lil one dayer float?
  4. I actually didnt try any cranks or divers, after i caught that 17er on my first cast i wasn't even thinkin about switchin it up. If my other rod wasnt fraying line as its reeling in it would've been rigged up with a 5" shallow diving rapala minnow, my other goto lure
  5. Floated a short lil stretch of the james from joe creighton to the ramp under 65 hwy yesterday. Floating was a lil tough being that there were a few trees down making for a short portage in a few places. Fishing was actually pretty good in the heat of the day catching a total of 4 bass. The biggest being a nice 17" plus largemouth that was caught on the very first cast of the float. I was using my "jamesriver" goto bait, a weedless carolina rigged green pumkinseed worm, as this setup has yielded me more bass than any other bait in the box. All in all im glad i got to get out there while the fishings still productive and to get some good sun. Thanks all Matt
  6. Finally got a couple days off in a row from work on a weekend so some buddies and I took off to float the upper section of Flat Creek. Water was a little up but was still very clear. I started off fishing my go-to James River bait, a carolina rigged green pumpkinseed worm, and started catching some bass smaller than my worm haha. My buddy was using a smallmouth colored deep diver rapala and started pulling out some nice 12" plus smallies so I tied on something similar and started getting into some nicer fish. Between the two of us we prob caught 20 bass, some goggle-eye, mostly smallmouth. The biggest was caught by my buddy at a length of 13.5. Most of the fish caught were females stuffed with eggs in 3 to 5 feet of water. Water temp was still on the chilly side but i anticipate the spawn to start within a few days on that section of the river. All in all it was a very productive weekend and definalty well deserved. This is my first post on this forum and am glad we have an online community dedicated to the greatest rivers and streams in the greatest state in the nation! Thank You - Matt
