  1. My wife and I are small stream fly-fishing devotee's here in MO. We like to use light weight fly-rods and wade... (we have larger rods and use them as required). We are looking to hit some new and larger waters perhaps out by the Gasconade during Labor day weekend. We primtive camp and like the beauty and isolation of Missouri streams and rivers. With it being late summer and reviewing some of the posts; it looks like some of the fishable water out in that area becomes less than pleasant and fishing is tough. Can anyone please give us an area to direct our efforts? Perhaps Osage Fork? I'm not sure because some of the recent posts indicate 'weed choked' or 'slow' or fishing that is less than 'good'. We tried an Ozark fishing trip last year and left within a day since it was more like a carnival with rock music, lots of people/canoes and fishing was non-existent. I'm trying to avoid that this year. I remember years ago going with a friend to a larger river area down 44 and off some sub-roads...I can't remember if it was the Gasconade but we parked in an area across from what looked like an and old gris-mill and there was a concrete dam going across the river (right at water level)? There were a few people fishing but it was beautiful and the fishing was decent(clear moving water). I'm hoping to find this area again, please help and thanks! Craig.
  2. Hi all, I've been an avid fly-fisher here in Missouri for many years. I taught my wife how to fly-fish a few years ago and now she's an addict as well! Presents to each other now include fly-rod blanks, flies etc...it's great. We married outside; during a vacation trip to Minnesota; we hitched over a river gorge in Minnesota and fly-fished for smallies and pike throughout our honeymoon. My wife enjoyed her first pike on a fly-rod...what a treat that was! I have enjoyed necking down my equipment over the years and really enjoy fishing small smallmouth streams with a 3-weight and antique reel. My largest was caught 3 or so years ago...a Hen caught in March at 21"...luckily I was using my 5-weight when she obliged a strike at my fly! Even then it took more than a few minutes to get her to shore and released... Well, I don't want to write a book here but look forward to chatting with all here. Cheers, Craig.
