  1. I haven't been there in a while, but last time I went I fished with a spinning rod. I was using yellow and pink trout worms wacky rigged on a treble hook (I hooked the worm in two places). I think I was using 4# spiderwire ultracast fluorocarbon. I caught most of my fish midday in the area near the parking lot. But again this was a while ago. I'll be checking out Maramec Springs again this spring, but I am really looking forward to my trip to Taneycomo. And don't worry patfish, fly-fishing for bass is definitely on my to do list.
  2. Yeah definitely. I went outside for some casting practice a couple days last week but the bone-chilling weather drove me back inside after about 20 minutes. But after it warms up a bit, or I get a terrible case of cabin fever, I will be back out fishing. Feel free to shoot me a pm as well. And thanks to everyone for the warm welcomes.
  3. I'd say this is pretty good, but I might add a 7' MH moderate casting rod for crankbaits. If using deep-diving crankbaits then I would pair it with a 5.0:1 baitcasting reel. Otherwise, I would pair it with a 6.3:1 or 7.0:1 baitcasting reel. Also, if you fish heavy cover you would want a 7'6" or 7'7" H Fast casting rod for flipping and pitching.
  4. Well I already have the bass fishing bug so what's one more addiction LOL. I spend most of my time fishing local streams for smallmouth, but at least once every year I head down to Branson to fish on Table Rock and Taneycomo. I had a lot of fun on Taneycomo with my spinning rod, and I'm really looking forward to bringing a fly rod down this spring or summer.
  5. I'm actually from Wentzville, but I usually just say St. Louis since most people I talk to east of Chesterfield have never heard of Wentzville, Foristell, Warrenton, etc.
  6. I've been reading this forum for about a week and finally decided to join. I have fished for bass almost all my life, but last summer I made my first trip to Meramec Springs. I had a blast with spinning tackle, and I'm looking forward to bringing my fly rod down soon. I'll take all the advice I can get, especially fly-fishing tips. I look forward to chatting with all of you in the future. Tight lines, Ryan
