Thanks for the replies guys! I will definitely start doing some searching, so when I have the funds to buy one I will be ready. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on brands and materials. There is some excellent information here and I will definitely take all that you have shared into mind when it is time to buy. I never thought I would be looking at canoes, but after hearing you all talk about them, I am getting somewhat excited about this. I might be onto something here. LOL. Thanks again for the input. Have a Great Weekend! Tyy

I hear you there. That is the way I look at it also. I just need to find the streams around here that I will enjoy fishing and then fish to my hearts content. The bass boat will come some day down the road. Where's a good place to find a canoe to fit three in? I was doing a little looking online last night, but didn't have a clue what I was looking at. Any advice would be great. Thanks. Have a Great Weekend! Tyy

Thanks for the info. I might just have to break down one of these days and look at getting a canoe. We will see what happens. The last time I went out in a canoe, I tried to tip the thing over with my dad. Actually, I think that was my first time in a canoe and we were on the Niangua I do believe. And to think, I was wanting to get a bass boat. I guess the canoe would be a little cheaper. LOL Thanks again for the info. Tyy

Hey Guys, Thanks for the feedback on my 'Toons. I just might have to get them out and give them a try. It's been so long hopefully I can find all my stuff and remember how to put them back together. I used them a lot for flying fishing in Idaho on small lakes and a few rivers. The one place I loved using them was the Green River on the Wyoming/Utah border. That was some awesome fishing! Well, I will keep you posted on how they work when I get the time to get them out and give them a try. Have a Great Night/Day! Tyy

Hey Guys, Thank you all so much for all the good info! I already own the De Lorme Missouri map and the Missouri Paddlers Guide, so I guess I better start putting them to use. I am also starting to realize that a canoe would probably be a good investment. There seems to be a lot of water that is great for floating. Do you know if anyone ever floats the creeks around here in personal pontoons? I have two of them from my fly fishing days back in Idaho and was wondering if they would work well for the waters around here? They have been in storage since we moved here 5 years ago. As far as waders go, I have two pairs for myself, but none for the boys yet. That might be a Christmas gift this year. Ness, thanks for the info and the link to the Ozark Chronicles website. I will definitely be checking that out also. I appreciate all the feedback to this post thus far. My boys and I fished the Finley this past Saturday and though the fishing wasn't great, we had a great time just getting out. They are ready to go again this weekend. Their excitement is getting me all excited again for stream fishing. It has been a long time, but I sure do love it. Nothing beats the challenge of a great day on a beautiful stream. Well, I will keep you all posted on our adventures. Maybe we will see you on the waters someday in the near future. That is, if I can find the secret holes. Tyy

Thanks guys! There is some great info here. RSBreth, when you stick the weight up inside the tube, do you put the hook through the weight somehow or beside it? I am trying to picture how you do this. Thanks. I am also curious how you fish these in the streams. Do you cast up stream and then let it float through a riffle or hole? I guess what I am trying to ask is where do the smallies/brownies hang out in these streams and how do you present these tube jigs to them? Stream fishing for smallies/brownies is new to me and I am trying to learn the techniques and areas to look for when fishing for them. Thanks for all the help. This has been great and I know my boys are getting excited to get out again here soon. Hopefully this weekend. Tyy

Hello All, I have seen a lot of discussion on here about using a 3" tube jig for smallies/brownies on the Finley. Can anyone tell me the best colors to use, favorite brands, weight of the jig heads and best way to present this to the fish? I have fished with tube jigs very little, but I know a lot of people swear by them. I really want to learn how to fish these, especially in a creek or stream setting. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Tyy

Hey Wayne, Thanks for the reply. My sons are 13 and 11. I had my 13 yr old with me the day I went to Swan Creek. We had thought about going to hit the Beaver, but we ran into an MDC officer and he told us that there wasn't much in the way of smallies/brownies in that area and that Swan Creek would probably be our best bet. He wasn't very encouraging when it came to finding streams for smallie/brownie fishing. So we hit Swan Creek and had an enjoyable afternoon. If you have any other suggestions, I am always open. I appreciate your insights. Tyy

Hey Al, Thank you so much for the great reply. This has some great information that I will definitely use. As far as wringing any favorite creeks out of most, I didn't think I had a chance. I can understand people wanting to keep their secret spots secret. After today, fishing on the Finley, I can understand why. One of the areas I was in, looked like somebody's trash drop off. I don't understand why people can't take their trash and dump it where it belongs. In a trash can! It's sad, but it seems to happen more and more. Anyhow, I hope to learn the areas to go and maybe even find some of my own secret places. Thanks again for your suggestions. I look forward to getting out and exploring what the Ozarks have to offer. Tyy

Thank you both for your insights. I will definitely be looking into these places and will be looking through this forum for ideas. I am always open to suggestions. Tyy

Hello All, It has been forever since I have posted on this forum, but it is time to get back into my first love, fishing. I grew up in the mountains of Idaho stream fishing for trout, but since moving to Missouri a lot of that was lost. But I have a renewed passion for finding the streams of Missouri that I can take my 2 boys too and show them what it was that their dad loved. Two weeks ago I took my oldest son out on a father-son day and we headed out to find Swan Creek and try our luck at that. We found it, but there wasn't much water. We ended up fishing it down low and got a few smallies and large mouth. It was here that I was reminded of my days growing up fishing in Idaho on the small streams. Well, now my boys want me to start taking them out exploring to find new waters where we can wade fish for smallies, large mouth and even trout. Being that the only places I have fished around here are the lakes for the most part, I really have no clue where to go, other than Swan Creek again. I would like to learn where the best streams are to fish and wade in the southwest Missouri area. We live in Ozark, so anything that is within an hour or so of here would be great. Can anyone give me some ideas where to go to find some good wade fishing streams in this area? My boys are 13 and 11, so they are big enough to wade moderate waters. We love to fish and for the most part, everything we catch is catch-and-release. Once in a while we keep crappie, but that is about it. I would also like to know what are the best baits for fishing these kind of waters. I know we used soft craw patterns on Swan Creek and that worked pretty well the day we went. Nothing of any size though. So any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated. I appreciate your help with this and look forward to any suggestions given. Tyy

Hello Guys, I thought I would put my two cents in here. My brother-in-law and I fished on 3/27/07 in the Camdenton area and caught a few. I caught 3 crappie between 10 and 13 inches, and about 5 that were short. We also caught a few bass that were short and then some bluegill and drum fish. All in all the day wasn't hot, but we did get some. They seemed to be in the 8 to 10 foot range. We were using 2" Watermelon Curly Tail Jigs and Red with White Tail Tube Jigs. I hope to get back up there here in the next week or two and try my luck at it again. We are just getting started at learning how to fish the lake so we would love to see some more reports on here also. Enjoy your Easter Fishing and let us know how it goes. Fishin4Fun

First off, thank you very much Phil for letting us fish from your dock this past Saturday. My boys had a blast. We only caught a couple, but they had a good time. So again thank you for that opportunity. They already want to go again this next weekend. There is nothing better that getting out with your kids and doing a little fishin. Hey Snow Fly, of course I remember you. It was great talking with you. How was your day on the lake? Did you guys find the fish? We caught a couple, nothing to write home about, but we had a great time. My boys want to go back again this next weekend. Thank you very much for the ideas about getting my boys out and teaching them how to fly fish. I will probably plan on doing just that. I took them up to the dam after we were done at Lillys' just to look around and boy were they excited to see all the fish and the people fly fishing. It was quite the experience. We had never been down there before. We didn't get to fish, but we did watch for a while. I would love to get them out there and learn. I guess I better start saving up some money to get them some fly fishing gear. I also need to learn the fly patterns for around here and start learning how to tie them. I took a fly tying class about 4 years ago and need to get back into it. Are there some patterns out there that you would highly recommend that I learn for this area? Any suggestions would be great. Well, back to work I go. Have a great week. Make it a Great Day! Tyy (aka Fishin4Fun)

Thanks Phil, we will probably be down there some time in the morning with my boys. What is the best kind of rig (line, weight, bait, etc...) to use off of the docks there? I was also wondering how beginner friendly the upper area would be if I wanted to take them up there and use lures? Will it be really crowded and hard to teach them up at the outlets? They are 8 and 10 years old and have fished for a while now, but I don't know how they would do in a crowd. I hope to get them fly fishing one day in the near future, but this trip is just to get them out and start learning some new areas. I grew up fly fishing in Idaho and would love to pass the joy of fly fishing on to my boys. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Make it a Great Day! Tyy (aka Fishin4Fun)

Hello Everyone, I am thinking of bringing my two boys down this Saturday to do some shore fishing and wanted to know where would be the best place to go? Neither of them know how to fly fish, so I think bait might be our best bet. Leonard, you had mentioned around Lillys Landing would be a great place to go. Where would you suggest? My brother-in-law and I rented a boat at Lillys Landing last week and fished all day, but didn't have much luck. I did see a lot of people fishing from the docks, but I know that is for registered guests. Are there places for the public to fish? Any suggestions on where and what to use would be greatly appreciate. Make it a Great Day! Tyy (aka Fishin4Fun)

Hello All, Well my brother-in-law is in town and we are heading to Taneycomo tomorrow to try our luck. We have never fished there before so I am looking for advice, ideas, and suggestions. We are going to rent a boat from Lilleys' Landing and go from there. We would love to do some trout fishing as we are both from Idaho and that is what we have grown up doing, but we would love to do some smallie fishing too. It has been way too long since we have been out and we are hoping that tomorrow will bring some great fishing our way. If you would be willing to pass on some of your wisdom and techniques to two newbies to the lake we would greatly appreciate it. Where should we fish? What should we use? We have spinning rods and fly rods. Are there some good maps of places to go? I think you get the point, we are new and don't have a clue where to start on this lake. Thanks in advance for your help. Make it a Great Day! Tyy Fishn4Fun P.S. Has anybody been out today fishing and have a current fishing report? Thanks.

Hello All, My family and I moved here about 2 years ago from Idaho. I just recently found this forum and think it is a great resource. I have not been trout fishing since I moved out here, but sure want to get back into it. I have 2 boys who are 8 and 10 and I want to start taking them trout fishing. Eventually I would like to teach them to fly fish, which is what I have done for years out in Idaho. My questions for anybody who can help, is where is a good place on Taneycomo to take my boys and get them fishing? We live up in Ozark and I would like to start taking them down there this fall. We do not have a boat, so we would need good shore access. Also, I am clueless on a lot of the spots that are talked about here in the forum so I need some good advice and what to use (flies and lures). The only area I am somewhat familiar with down there is the fish hatchery below the dam. We have visited there numerous times, but that is about all I know about Taneycomo. If anybody can help a poor Idaho boy get his feet wet here in Missouri, I would greatly appreciate the help. I have let 2 years pass without taking my boys fishing for trout and that has got to stop. Thanks for your help on this one. Make it a Great Day! Fishin4Fun

Hello All, I am new to this board, so please excuse me if I sound a little behind the times. I have only fished Tablerock twice in my life and I am looking for a little help. I have a friend coming into town this weekend and we are thinking of fishing Tablerock on Saturday, probably. I know very little about the lake at this time, but hope that will all change soon. We both love to fish for Bass and Crappie, so I am looking for suggestions of where to fish, what to fish with, and where to put in? We will be coming down from Ozark. I know this weather change and the labor day weekend is going to change some things up, but any help or advice for this newbie to the lake would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and God Bless, Fishin4Fun
