I called about 8:30 and the water was off @ 704.3. so I head down there, when I got there I looked at the water.. and it looked like 1 unit was running.. I thought it was 1 of those slow to drop out night, turned to walk back to the van and they blow a horn, ok not a problem... 1 unit on line is fishable... geared up and headed down the stairs at chute 2, most of us know there is a tree that hangs over the water and you have a fish gather up by that tree, where thats where I started, I figured they would shut it down soon... standing there, I started feeling some pressure behind my knee and then the coolness on the thighs.. they have 2 units on line, and coming up fast, Im almost waist deep in water. I was head to the van, I was going to try a little nymphing, well about 45 minutes, nothing on the nymphs (eggs, scuds, midges, sjworms).. so I was going to head up to chute 1 to throw a few streamers. On the way up the strairs a SUV pulled in (3 guys) and I informed they had water running that the fishing was slow there, and I offered them, to follow me up to chute 1. well they took me up on the offer and off we went.. now thats the small talk.. heres the report. I think they all caught a few fish, I caught a few fish (when I say a few) I caught 5, and of the young men caught a beautful rainbow maybe 18-19in well finally the water started to drop out and we headed to the guanlet, we walked in and seperated, I started to work the guanlet picking up 4 more, by now it was 2am, and we all call it a night... Leonard.. oh yes flies of chioce last night, olive woolies, white mohawks, black marabou leech and (get ready for this)... the PMS..

chute 1 was fishable...LOL... I'll post a report in the morning.. it wasnt great... but it wasnt bad!! I think they shut the water about 12:30.. we made it down to the guanlet.. and still caught a few

I caught maybe 5 more.. not a bad night.. not the best night... but still fun meeting the guys... Terry, Dano, and Flex... you guys would catch more if you didnt sit in the parking lot all night BSing...LOL..hehehe!! Leonard

lbt... Glad you asked.. as most people knows.. the TNS stands for Taneycomo night special.. The fly will work during the day or at night.. but I have had no luck with it on foggy nights.. Ask Terry how it performs at night on a full moon and no fog.. I havent use this fly that much this year.. since march (after a the generation this past winter) almost every night Ive been down there has been foggy But TNS is only a size 8 crackleback... in a mix of colors. The Mohawk.. is a sculpin pattern the a friend from texas showed me.. Along with another pattern I have talked about on this site but nobody ever asked about it. originated by Matt Jennings (thats all Im say about those!!) The Nasti (Night Anglers Sweet Trout Inticer) again a modified fly that fits "my" needs night fishing... a size 8 soft hackle pheasant tail http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/LeonardK73/NASTI2.jpg It works!!! Now... for the Pine squirrel Sculpin... Very good night pattern.. It evening works during the day... This pattern is a "Knock Off" of the Tom Barr's "slumpbuster"... But I dont tye with a cone.. I dont put a belly on it (any more.. to time consuming) .. I just modified to fit the need of a GREAT fly for taneycomo.. If you ever get a chance to look at it in the water... It look just like a minnow.. The PMS... (The New Fly) causing a kinds of fuss.... yes the name is odd... but it does stand for something... there has only been a "VERY SELECT" few people the has seen this fly and even used this... and Im sure they will chime in sooner or later... But Like I said it a new fly to me and had proven to me that it need a place in my fly boxes... (HINT: right next to the pine squirrels!!) The Roo Bug... Made with Kangaroo fur.. what else do I need to say any more flies you what to know about??? Almost forgot... I may have said that wrong about the Strip leech.. You right about the Kelly Guallop's articulated patterns (at least a few)have 1 hook... but I beleive that most people call them the jointed flies (I may be wrong there) BUT.. He does have a few patterns that has more then 1 hook on them... His website... www.slideinn.com I shouldnt have the leech was articulated... Instead, It has a "stinger" (trailer) hook... Leonard

I'll be out tonight... on a trip

the PMS (as some would call it) is a modified fly I came across... who said I started with the leech?? If you look at the chart you can see where the water started to drop... (check this if you want!!) they shut the units down between 10:15-10:30 and turn one back one... I was there when they blow the horn... so I went up to outlet 1... you can stand in outlet "FACING" down stream and get a good cast... yes the trees are close but you can get it out there... I had a guide trip out a few nights ago and we caught fish on big flies... and I am using a 2 hook system (a size 6 and a size 8) If truth be know.. Im only using these big flies for practice... Im trying to find out where I can use them.. where the deep holes are.. and how the fish react to a big fly...(so far so good!!) the reason for the bigger flies.. is I'll know what I need to be tying for this fall... If I can catch 20in fish at any giving time of the year (like on this new fly).. then that tells me when the bigger fish comes in that should be a better fly.. right? Eric... we used the guys camera that night.. so he has the picture.. I know what I caught.. and I guess you'll just have to wait till he sends it to me... Leonard

Hey terry... are you ready for a few "new flies" from the EVIL minds that I fish with.... 1. the Tailgater... you know that one.. needs test. with and with out floats 2. the PMS... This name just pop into my head this morning coming of the water after using it most of the night... 3 the chute jumper.. a BIG BLACK nasty looking thing that work when they a flushing chute and on dark foggy night when the moon is out 4.. the SOB.. because it is when try to cast it on a 8wt 5. SUPER LEECH... big bad and 10 inches long cone head and a trailer hook...LOL.. caught 2 fish (about 17in each) on it last night.. stripping it hard and fast.. I mean fast like a bat out ****!! this is a few different flies Ive been play with... Call me soon.. I have a question for you... Terry.. now that is the funniest thing you have done in a long time.. but I dont think that was a big brown I had on... it had furry ears.. and a big flat tail... but MAN WHAT A FIGHT!!! Hey Eric.. WE HAD BOGO GRIP!! (HAPPY!) Take a look at Jeremy website sometime... www.taneycomotrout.com .. there is a few of us that knows where a big fish is every now and then... qoute from his website::Taney is crowded so expect that. With that being said, downstream seems to be less crowded with more room to fish and the fish seem to look at more flies because of less pressure. I’ve been fishing midges and eggs and catching a lot of 16-18 inch rainbows on the eggs. There are a few big browns roaming the streets down by the boat ramp so you might think about fishing downstream if you haven’t. I’m tired so I’m going to bed. If I write anymore I might start rambling about nothing. I’ll write more tomorrow when get home. One other thing before I forget, make sure you bring a rain coat because more then likely you will get wet. See you on the river!! Leonard

I got to the dam about 1am to meet up with the client (for a trip)... drove down into the parking and was getting geared up... alot of car.. we decided not to fish up top.... so we went down stream... with in the fish 1 hour, the biggest fish of the night was caught.. A MONSTER 26in brown..... NO KIDDING!!! wieghted in at right at 6 1/2LB caught on a olive pine squirrel... (pictures well be posted in a day or two)... the rest of the night just didnt matter.. If I was to guess a total Id say "we" caught somewhere between 35-40... WHAT A NIGHT!!!

I met up with Wrath last night to let him see what fishing Taneycomo at night was all about... we met at the top of the steps of chute 2 at midnight and fished till just after 4am one word.... DISAPPOINTING!! We didnt get skunked but the bite was there.. we started at the guanlet.. caught 2... one on a pine squirrel (olive) and 1 one a white woolly.. went up between chute 1 and 2 and caught 2... one on the white woolly the other I dont remember.. then we went above chute 1 caught one on a black leech then moved down close to chute 1 and caught a nice cutbow about 17in on a black leech... 2 fish in 30 minutes we thought we were gonna get into some.. Never happened we tried sculpins, pine squirrel, leeches (mohairs and rabbit all colors), woolies (blacks, olives, whites)... we tried the top of the water.. middle.. and the bottom.. It just was there last night.. at the end.. when it was all said and done... I beleive he caught 6 and I caught 3... even Duane (duckydoty) said he was having a tough time last night.. Wrath, It was great meeting up with you.. just wish we could have gotten into the fish.. but it just didnt happen..

DR.. I know it sounds crazy... but it does come in handy.. I have been working on my family genealogy background for over 6 years... we have date my genealogy back to the late 1600's... As for as the SS# there is a big database that keeps track of numbers... when you replace your card (because its tore up, you misplace it, or other things).. then they search the database to make sure you have the right info for that number... DOB, SSN, Parents names, and more... Yes there has been alot of numbers stolen from this database.. but not as many as you would think.. There was a big military scare last year... some had stolen a box of disc with the SSN in it... this box contained over "X" amount disc with unlimited numbers of names ,SSN, ranks.. dated from the 1990-2000 ... I was sent a letter telling me to watch me credit history, and other information on myself.. with in about 2 weeks time it was recovered... someone had misplaced the box and it was mistaken for something else...

Things are looking GREAT at the dam... But what should start to concern people is the erosion at outlet 1... If anyone fishes that area at night.... .........TAKE NOTE... it is getting bad... I was there yesterday.. the bank has about a 5' drop... this has increase over the past week... and is getting worst...
