  1. Hey Michael... Next time your out.. talk a walk up around outlet 2.. up to outlet 1.... Look really really close and you will see them... if you can tye a size 16 baby sculpin (there a like a tanish green)... you will see what Im talking about.. MATCH THE HATCH!!! Within the pass few week there has been a sculpin hatch there are about 1/2in to 3/4in right now
  2. Time to start making plan for the 4 annual OAF get together.. In the years its been great... lots of people, lots of food and all types of fun.. Lets start making the list of whos coming and whos bringing what.... Leonard... The LIST!! Rackersc..... hot wing dip Flysmallie.... (maybe ribs)... and some Baileys for Leonard Back3roots.... cheese dip Leonard (ME)... Im going to try to bring a gas grill Dano... plates and thing
  3. here is a couple of questions.. 1st.. Any where on Taneycomo? (not just restricted to the trophy release) 2nd Any bait/fly/lures...... any rods... fly or spinning rod (this includes all power bait, worms, minnows, shads, rapalas... ect) 3rd.. Do they "HAVE" to hand the picture (s) to you.. Or can it be posted here on OAF or e-mailed to you with all information needed 4th.. Any body can tell someone how big a fish is.. does it have to be set close to a tape measure or ruler.... for a accurate measurement? 5th.. what if someone catches a big one while out with a guide.. 6th.. How many pictures should be taken of the fish? (measurement of lenght and girth.... plus any marks that might be on the fish... Like a poke from a heron or a gash from a boat or a messed up lip, or a dark spot from shocking) 7th.. what happens if the same fish is caught by a couple of different people? (would this be classified as a tie?)
  4. If Im not mistaking.. you can use up to 3 rods... (or 3 hooks in in the water).. Fly Guy.. you should have post a picture of a 17in fish with your arms extended all the way out and try to tell everyone it was over 20inches..
  5. the PMS may not produce 100 little fish in one night.. But the fish that does hit it .. hits them HARD AS HELL... .. I was there friday night.. and the PMS was a good fly.. most fish we caught on the PMS was in the 16-19in range (about 20 total)... we fished the big hole.. with the hibernator... catching about 20 or so.. in the 13-16in range.. moved to the flats.. not much happening there.. so we crossed and caught a few nice ones from the cable down.. (ON THE PMS!) then we went to below KOA down just past the flats there.. and caught a bunch more.. once we figured out how they want it.. it was non-stop.. VERY AWESOME NIGHT!! if you stripped it fast enough.. you would see the swirl the top of the water and miss it.... then they would "wake" in behind it.. and when you paused for a second.... they would SLAM IT.. nearly taking your rod out of your hands... we had 2 fish that literly came about 2 feet out of the water taking the PMS... maybe not big high numbers for 3 guys (about 60 fish total).... But watching the fish reaction to the flies was COOL enough.. Gary.. I think we were the 3 guy across stream from you up by outlet 1 to the cable... Leonard ** sorry for the late report** Try to get ready to send the kids back to school
  6. Hey wrath.. Good to see your heading this way.. Not much happening here for the "BIG" boy.... there is a few nice one (low 20in range).. I think the spot for you would be Meramec River or even the Current River... a couple miles below Baptist... But if you get over this way and want to rip a few shot... if anything when can spend the evening throw monster flies to get in some practice... Leonard
  7. I met up with Kim and Joyce (hope thats how you spell it) from springfield around 11:30pm.. well we headed up to the flat and got right into some really nice fish on the black uv red Hibernator.. Joyce nailed her first (close to) 20in bow.... Kim nailed a good one but not sure of the hook-up.. we netted it once and it looked like it was in the mouth it out of the net and the line slacked but then tighted right back up just as quick.... then once we netted it again in was in the fin... hard to say.. but the finally netting was a foul-hook.... it also was in the sweet 19-20range..... all in all we caught some very nice fish... end the night around 2am... My catch of the night a sweet little 16in...... CRAPPIE.. on the hibernator.. he was released.. but my mouth is still watering thinking about him... I enjoyed fishing with you both and hope to do it again really soon Leonard
  8. well here.. if the glue and epoxy covers the scent of the coffee bean... why dont we get someone to do this.. take 1/8oz little baggie of pot (aka.. mary jane).. roll it up really tight and put glue and/or epoxy and get really good and covered... walk past a K-9 Unit.. and it the dog doesnt smell it.. then we all know it covers the scent.... RIGHT.. even though I seen this fly.. and Ive seen it work.. (Nice fly Brian).. But I have to agree with Micheal on this one.... this would be like tying a piece of corn on a hook and fishing it.. even though it is a natural scent... There is no way glue would cover the the scent 100%.. Just my thoughts. Leonard
  9. Buschman... Something to remember for the summer time patterns on taneycomo.. Fall creek and above... water off... small rapalas.. and jig.. running water.. big rapalas and 1/8oz jigs (1/4oz if running 4 units hard) below fall creek to 65 bridge.. little cloes jigs and the little jakes (domino lure).. silver on a cloudy day.. gold on a sunny day If the are running 2 or more units.. use the larger size.. This little jake also works great down around the Branson Landing in running water.. if you feel daring.... throw some big rapalas toward the stump bank (across from the landing).. may loose a couple... but I willing to bet there a big in there!! with all this rain... we will probably see some high water through the rest of the week.... this is about what they are doing now.... but could see longer hours of running water as far as bait fishing.. Night crawler on the bottom with running water.. powerbait... 2 units or less.....
  10. So I guess the Ol'saying is true..... Its hard to soar like an eagle .. when you hang around turkeys!!!
  11. This picture was sent to me yesterday from New Hampshire... A bookie takes the PMS..
  12. I was thinking more along the lines of the Hibernator this weekend.. but the PMS sounds good too..... I would be there tonight testing a new fly.... Its a GOOD one.. The Mid-Night Snack..... But its probably just some freaking "KNOCK-OFF" fly like the others ones..RIGHT
  13. Bman.. I had a blast (and ofcourse a few laughs)!!! Good Coffee.. good food (shhhh.... we wont tell noone what we ate)... GREAT FISHING.. and a some GREAT BSing I enjoyed it,
  14. the trout parks is a great place to get practice on casting... its short distance.. Taney would be good for a novice.. for short line indicator fishing... Or get a guide like: Stan and Carolyn.. (river run outfitters) Chuck ..... (anglers and archery) Phil... (but hes gone for a few days) Michael ... (back country outfitters) I dont know if Tim at Roaring River State Park does (but Im sure he would/can help)..if you ask and of these can really get you casting good... and some even offer casting lessons

  19. I got rigged up about 10:30.. and head down to the big hole.. started off with a PMS jig (tied w/cone) caught 1.. moved on down a ways.. and switched to the unweighted (olive) PMS.. picking up a few more... when that slowed down so did the surface activity... so I went to the olive beaded.. picking up a few more... they after quite a few cast and nothing.. I switched to the black Beaded PMS and finished off the night with a few more.. probably finished with around a dozen (to 15).. in about a hour 1/2.. the strike was hard.. and the surface takes are FREAKING AWESOME!! Love to watch them nail the PMS at night just off the surface!!!
  20. Hey Brian A couple nights ago when Tippet7 and I was out.. He hook a nice little rainbow and notice something in it mouth... It looked like a foam fly at first... But reading this I remember what you showed me the other day... It was a coffee bean...... BTW.. It was good seeing you out there..Enjoyed the chat.. Lets catch up again another time... maybe one of the really dark cloudy nights.. maybe we can get a reel to "scream" for mercy!! Leonard PS.. where can I get a few coffee beans?
  21. Good seeing you out Michael.. when I headed up to below outlet 1.. I started off with the new PMS jig.. He kicked my BUTT using my own fly...LOL within just a couple hours we hooked up over a couple dozen... BONUS... the PMS we were using was tied on a jig hook with a tungsten cone.... Ive used this a couple times now and have caught very few on it.... Last night in the high water it was very effective!! after the water shut down.. we put on some hibernators.. and right back into them.. the hits we softer but still hooked into some really nice one *** would add more pictures.. but the camera card is full*** I was on the water last night deleting pictures as I was fishing... now thats a chore!! we end the night just after midnight...
