skip... when I got a new leader.. put it on... I probably do something that nobody else does... I break off about 2-2 1/2 foot of the leader... then I tye in about a 5-6 foot piece of Maxima 6lb line... get a nice 3x..or 4x tappered leader.. and twist it around a couple of finger.. and it will snap like 2lb line.. when you get about 2-3 feet up that leader then you start to find it a little tougher to break.. that where I tye in to... then once I use up my 6lb line.. I clip off the knot.. and tye on another piece... this is just a little thing I like to do... Leonard

How to tie a dropper rig
Leonard replied to firemedjoe's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
This is how I tie my droppers... when tying on the top fly... I add about a 1 1/2-2foot tag.. I pull all of that through and judge the distance I want my dropper.. instead of try to tye in at the bend of the hook... how is a few helpful knots.. www.flyanglersonline.com/begin/knots (copy and paste in search).. it should take you to it.. and here is what my set up looks like...(I did shorten the dropper to fit picture hope this helps guys.. Whodat... I cant tell you anything about the generation pattern... but what I can tell you is the past 2 night they have been slowing the water down to about 2 units... and it was back up to 4 units this morning at about 6:30am... I dont know what time they turn it all back on Leonard

No.. I havent fished Bull Shoals at night.. If you have great... but if you havent... either try to find a place to fish during the daytime... or find a guide who knows the water and how the bottom lays...

well I went to Jemery's tying class.. and went to the water after that.. got ther just after 9pm (maybe 9:15) there was a guy (Phil) in the parking lot just getting ready to start.. so we joined forces and went together.. I had a short night... after setting and rigging up.. its now just after 9:30.. midge and eggs again (Ducky.. that egg I got last night is TOAST!!) well in my brief hour.. I hooked into maybe 20-25 fish.. brought 10-12 to hand.. most was that long distance release.. ok by me.. I didnt have to get my hands wet well when we got there the water was at the bottom step... when I left.. there was walking room down the bank.. they shut it down to 2 units.. tailwater at 12:30am is 706.5 so guys in the morning.. It may be shut off or just one or 2 going.. Leonard

LOL... yes... It was kinda funny... a guy walks down the steps.. and I thought he had a rod with him.. he had a LED light on.. and I was ready to move over to let him toss a few time.. turn my head again he was gone... I think he stood they for a good 15-20 minutes watching us.. we had probably hooked up a dozen fish the time he was there

Mikey.. Not bad at all.. but if your looking for some good thread to tye those with.. white GSP... it blends in with the back and the dubbing Also if you hold (pinch tighly).. the dubbing close to the hook .. you can wrap that dubbing alittle tighter... then just trim the extra little burrs off Leonard
-
beside.. not to brag... I just came off of a 4 year not in the water streak... Phil was there the nightI went in... so... I really hate to say it... but John If I didnt jump (or got pushed) in the water to save your pride... you would probably be the one to fall in.. Leonard

I got there just after 7pm and we fished till just after 10pm.. and he was already in the water.. well he walk up to the van with me.. I had to gear up.. and he had to tye on a new tippet... back on the water.. I started with a midge and scud dropper... 1 fish he started with a midge and an egg.. more fish then me.. about 5 so I changed over to an egg also.. we stood in chute 2 for almost an hour and a half.. probably caught 20-25 fish "EACH"... got bored with that.. and went to chute 1.. first cast out.. fish on.. still with the midge and egg dropper well we didnt do as good in 1 as we did in chute 2.. but we total out maybe 9-12 each there also... moved back down to 2.. caught more.. by this time we lost count it was a good night.. it seemed to us they shut down a generator tonight... the water dropped down enough to expose the big rock below the stairs at chute 2 average fish for the night were between 15-17.. maybe an 18 or 2.. we had fun.. and it was great fishing... Ducky... we need to do it again.. soon Leonard

Well I got to the water about 11:30am... and fished till close to 4pm 3 units on... although they did drop it alittle, but in about 30 minutes it came back up well with only a few place to fish from.. I went to chute 2.. started with a scud and sj worm dropper.. picked up 2.. the changed to a roo bug (#12).. with a roo dropper (#14)... with about 30 minutes I caught about 12-15 fish.. and had a couple hooked that could have went a good 20"... well then they slow down again... so I put on a peach egg.. caught 4... switched again.. this time to a "new roo" (some thing Jeremy Hunt helped with)... WOW does it work!! I think he tyed it up in a size 16.. well I fished it for about 30 minutes... hooked into a really big bow (24-25" on the small side).. it was a MONSTER.. well with the rookie daytime fisher that I am.. it ended up being "an up close and personal, But dont touch me release", as I was reaching for the line it flipped the hook at me and straight into the back of my hand.. NOTE: when fishing big flies debarb your hooks!! in comes out easier...mine was... well after that I decide to go back to the double roo.. finishing off the day at chute 2 with somewhere around 25-30 fish... all in all a good day..

Ducky... go ahead and mail them... not sure of the next time Im going to be there

Ok sign up day is here... it looks like total number of swappers is 14... cant wait to see everyones flies!!!.. this should be great!!! Leonard

BuschTrout... If your fishing this weekend and they dont shut down the water... your going to be fishing in the chutes...Unless you have a boat... Flies that could be good this weekend.. scuds, sj worms, sow bugs, and glo-balls (orange, red or peach) maybe even a couple lightly wieghted white woolies in case they decide to flush the hatchery (but I didnt say that!!) Leonard bring some wieghts... to get the flies down
