  1. I usually tie with UNI thread but today i tied with some Danville 6/0 thread and broke the thread 3 times in an hour. I havent broken my 6/0 UNI for a few months. Strange. Anybody else have this problem?
  2. Talked to the owner today. He said he will look into posting his info on the forum. The customer service I received was phenomenal. I am also impressed by the selection of materials.
  3. I absolutely love my Redington Sonic Pro waders. They are pricy but the durability and comfort will pay off in the long run. Good luck! Tight Lines! ~Luke

    Carp?

I have seen a few posts on this forum mentioning carp. Are carp seen with any regularity here? I am looking for somewhere close to where I live to go after carp on the fly rod.
  5. The Hardy Zenith won the Yellowstone Angler 5 wt Shootout. Tell me how you like it! Oh, and welcome to the forum! Tight Lines! ~Luke
  6. Watch Caddyshack for some inspirational ideas. Tight Lines! ~Luke
  7. I saw a fairly large Heron searching for fish the day before. There was some claw marks on another catfish I found. I think they may have been made by a raccoon because the marks were fairly small.
  8. I found this recently dead channel cat about 3 feet away from the shore of my pond today. The belly was still wet. There was a deep puncture and a few cuts and scrapes on its back and head. What could have caused this? About 3 months ago I ran across the same thing except it was a crappie and the crappie was still alive. Very strange... Tight Lines! ~Luke
  9. I like my Redington Sonic Pros. They have extra protection at the knees and seat. They breathe relatively well and have held up to some pretty rough conditions. I use Korkers Redside boots too. They are handy for changing from felt soles to rubber soles in under a minute. Good luck!
  10. Are you only going to be wading in the summer months? What is your price range?
  11. Thanks! Tight Lines! ~Luke
  12. Thanks guys! I caught it in my neighborhood pond. I released it to be caught another day. Tight Lines! ~Luke
  13. Caught my first fish on a crankbait today. I used a Norman Middle N in the Chili Bowl color with KVD Elite trebles. Awesome! Tight Lines! ~Luke
  14. Sweet! Tight Lines! ~Luke
  15. Thanks Gavin. I was going to bring one fly rod and my baitcaster. Would an 8 wt be too much for smallmouth and too little for pike? I wasn't planning on throwing huge streamers but some articulated patterns and some smaller poppers so I don't think I would need a 10wt for that.
  16. Next summer I am going to Canada to canoe around a bunch of lakes and I need some gear suggestions. First off, I need a decent fly rod and reel that can handle pike and smallmouth, preferably somewhere around the $350 dollar mark. Second, what would be a good fly line and wire leader material to buy? Third, what are some good flies for pike and smallmouth? Thanks!
  17. Ok, I found this on Austin Kayak http://m.austinkayak.com/phone/prodDetails.php?ID=7307 . It already has two rod holders and a rudder. The angler version is here http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006K99YTI . These look sweet for their price, I don't know where I could try one out before I buy it. Tight Lines! ~Luke
  18. Thanks for all of the suggestions! Is there a Springfield area kayak dealer that will let me try out kayaks before I buy one?
  19. Thanks for the advice. On Austin Kayak, do the blem models just have dings and scrapes or is there something seriously wrong with them? The deals there are great, the only downside is the shipping costs. Tight Lines! ~Luke
  20. I am in the market for a kayak and wanted a few recommendations. I am looking for a kayak that is relatively small (10-12 feet), has a good amount of storage, ability to add rod holders and accessory mounts and is $500 or below. The Old Town Vapor 10 Angler on sale at Academy for $399 and the Emotion Stealth Angler look like good choices for the price. What do you think? Thanks!
  21. I picked up a can of Real Magic at Walmart a few days ago. I used it on my bait casting set up and I noticed significantly reduced line memory and I didn't get a single backlash. On the can it says that it softens and extends line life of mono, braid, and fly line. After my previous incident with Scotch Guard, I am hesitant to put anything on my fly line that isn't tried and tested. Has anyone used this on fly lines and what were the results? Tight Lines! ~Luke
  22. Today I caught my first Smallie today. Even though it was small it fought pretty hard. In the second picture there are black dots on its stomach. Are these parasites? Tight Lines! ~Luke
  23. I was only out for two hours and yes, those were the only ones I caught.
  24. I went to the Rivercut golf course and waded upstream from there. Right off the bat I caught a 12" largemouth. After that, I went upstream to another hole and hooked into a nice catfish. Both were caught on a white Texas rigged baby paca craw. Tight Lines! ~Luke
