Spinnerbaits, spinnerbaits, spinnerbaits. Always works for me. Rocky banks, timber, bushes, ledges, bluff walls, never seem to have trouble getting bites on them. I fish a lot later at night than you it sounds like though.

Stopped by the other day and got my yearly permit. Didn't catch anything but I'm heading out at sunrise tomorrow. Hopefully I can hook into a few before it gets too hot -
Boat on McDaniel
waterdogMP replied to MObassin95's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Every sign I've seen at McDaniel says "no boats". -
Does anyone know if you can take a kayak on to fellows lake? If so, is there a day use fee or anything?

I'm 6'1" , 250 and my hands are 5" wide at the knuckles if that helps put the fish in perspective. MDC is doing an awesome job with Stockton I think. Stockton has always been good to me, very rarely I go and come back with a goosegg.

I was never really big on it. Always swore by day fishing but a buddy of mine has gotten me really hooked (no pun intended) on night fishing. It's a little cold in the early months but it's worth it for sure.

3/8oz red/black spinnerbait w/red/black trailer. Definetely a beast, makes me wonder how much bigger they are in Stockton.

Got on the water at 1930 and fished until about 0200. Ran all over around Maize Creek and Masters. There were a lot of boats out. Caught a lot of fish but only 8 keepers between 2 of us. Hard to establish a pattern with them tonight. Biggest fish of the night (and the year for us) 10lbs 8oz.

Awesome, thanks for the quick response. I appreciate it. I'll let you guys know how it goes tomorrow. Thanks again.

Just curious if anyone has fished turkey creek lately. Heading up tomorrow and will be targeting whites and LM. Fished sons creek last weekend, lost iPhone in about 8' of water but other than that had a good day. Caught probably 20 LM, all on 3/8-1/2oz jigs (mostly brown and orange) except for 3 that were caught on 1/2oz spinnerbait all white with white trailer. Only 5 were keepers. Also caught 1 keeper smallie on a jig. Target depth was 5-16' of water. thanks guys. Good luck out there!

Hi guys, taking a deployed soldier's son out tomorrow and was wondering about water conditions around Bona. Clearly it's going to be very stained but is it up a lot? Lots of debris? Just want to make sure it's going to be easy to stay safe, not too worried about finding fish, that's the easy part. Thanks in advance

Johnson Engine Issues ****HELP HELP
waterdogMP replied to waterdogMP's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I've already ordered the stuff I know it needs (plugs and the power pack) so It's a little late for that, lol. I'm going to pull the cylinder head tomorrow or sunday and take a look. I will try to take some pics when I'm in there. Do you know a good place to order internal engine parts? Thanks again for all your help. You have been very informative and straightforward and I really appreciate it. I was expecting a lot of "Take it to so and so, or this marine shop" type of comments. I can rebuild a car engine fairly easily so with a little research I doubt (hope) I won't have much difficulty with an outboard. -
Let's just clear this up. A conservation agent or game warden cannot, I repeat CANNOT, just walk into your house and search without a warrant. They are Law Enforcement officers and are bound by the constitution. You are protected by the 4th Amendment against unreasonable searches and seizures. They can walk up to you in your yard or your field and ask, especially if you have fish, to check your stringer/livewell, what have you. You have the right to decline, at which point they will most likely get the warrant, detain you, seize all of your fish, gear, boat, truck and everything else if you are not legal, if you are legal then I'm sure you will be fine. --Source, 7 years and counting as a Missouri Peace Officer.

Anything green pumpkin in softbaits. I fish football jigs on chunk rock a lot. Fire tiger wiggle wart always kills them for me. White spinner baits on windy points and gravel/transition points. If you are going to fish bass at night then black/blue flake is good. Black spinner bait with black Colorado blade works well for me. I usually fish the dirtier parts of the lake (Aldrich, greenfield) areas where the water is a little more dingy. Where you find clearer water it's going to fish a lot like table rock.

Johnson Engine Issues ****HELP HELP
waterdogMP replied to waterdogMP's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Alright guys, update time. So I did a compression test and I will explain my findings the best I can. When standing behind the boat looking at the engine, the right top and bottom right cylinders both had 125 psi, both plugs need replaced as the electrodes were almost nonexistent. Top left cylinder 125 psi, plug in same condition. bottom left cylinder 75 psi (I checked multiple times for gauge fit and it was good, still 75 psi), the spark plug was junk. The electrode was burnt so bad it was nothing but a large ball of carbon, it melted the side and center electrode into 1. I also had no fire going to the plugs on the left side. I checked the power pack and it is bad on the left side. I am ordering a new power pack, and already have a new set of plugs. I used a mechanics camera to look inside the cylinder on the bottom left, there is no scarring on the piston or cylinder wall, there does seem to be carbon build up on that cylinder more than the others (some buildup on all cylinders). I am wondering what to do next, also wondering if putting seafoam in the cylinders and letting them sit for awhile will clear up some of that carbon and maybe bring the rings back up on the low psi one. -

Johnson Engine Issues ****HELP HELP
waterdogMP replied to waterdogMP's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Ok thanks. I read that compression should be within 10 percent of eachother, but what is a good compression for that engine? Sorry to ask so many questions but I'm looking online and can't find answers -

Thanks guys, and this may be a dumb question, but how do I do a compression test? Oh, and I'm located in Springfield. Thanks for the proper order on diagnosing outboard engine problems fishinwrench. Thanks ketchup. -
Hey guys, So I've got an issue with an old engine and I was hoping someone had some knowledge on here as I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to boat engines. The easiest way is to just tell the story. First time the boat has been ran since I've had it and I don't know the last time it was ran before today. The engine is a 1979 Johnson 140TL79R 140hp Outboard. It started fine and ran fine at idle and throttle while in neutral. I put it in gear, gave it throttle and it took forever to get up to speed to plane out. Once planed it ran fine and was fast for about a minute then it sputtered and died. I was able to start the engine back up but the boat wouldn't go over 5 mph. I took off the cover and noticed a wire supplying power to the upper right coil pack was broken. I spliced a new wire into it, started the engine back up and it still wouldn't go over 5 mph. When I give it full throttle the drive gear fully engaged and the carbs opened up to full throttle but it just wouldn't go. Also, now in neutral if I give it throttle it sputters up before it gets to 4500 rpms and then will run ok. Fuel is new and mixed at the proper ratio, the boat isn't overloaded, lower unit is full with good oil, good batteries, water impeller pump is working fine. My question is what do you guys think is wrong? Should I clean the carbs and replace the needle valves and gaskets? I've heard that fuel could evaporate and varnish the needle valves. Also, it has the factory coil packs from 1979 on it, should I replace those? Please help guys, I need to get back on the water soon. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
