Thanks all. The "bubbles" look more like oxidation; I just refrained from using that term because it is beneath the surface at the wraps.
It is very possible that it was like that from the get-go and I never noticed. It is an orvis 1 wt, and I hadn't looked at it in years. Not going to re-wrap.
I've recently pulled out a fly rod that hasn't seen daylight in a long time and noticed that the wrappings were fully of tiny bubbles beneath the glue and at the thread. It doesn't hurt anything, but if it can be easily fixed I'd give it a shot. I dont want to sent it off the the mfg over this. Heat of some kind, maybe. Any direction is appreciated.
I'm not sure what Cabela's was going for, but I received the rod the night before last and was disappointed in it. The grip was designed for those huge hands they had back then? I don't know. The snake guides and stripping guide were cheap and too small. Reel seat was too long. It had a nice rod tube..... I sent it back.
Bought a kayak and wanted a less expensive 2 pc. (not a fan of 4pc., sorry) 4wt rod to ride along while I get my kayak legs under me. I ordered the Cabela's 50th Anniversary Graphite, built by St Croix. It hasnt arrived yet, but I'm hoping someone might have some insight into it. I need a line and usually oversize by one to load a little faster. It's advertised as intermediate action, which I'm guessing was fast as hell the last time I bought a new rod.
Just signed on to the forum, and look forward it. I fish MacDonald and Barry counties mostly, and got started fly fishing around Joplin. I've been at it a little while now, but I'm very new to forums. I'm a warm water guy for the most part, and enjoy tying. Talk to you all soon! SC
Hello everyone, from a very hot SW Mo! I do most of my fishing in MacDonald and Barry county these days, and started fly fishing around Joplin, for small mouth in the creeks, and large mouth in the strip mines north of there. Been at it for a while, but I'm new to forums... Nice to meet ya!
