  1. I fished LIR Saturday afternoon below Watts parking lot. I spent a couple hours stripping a woolly bugger and only got a couple. I think something started hatching about 5PM, fish rising. Midge hatch? Does anybody know what they might have been eating? All I know is it wasn't my fly. thanks in advance.
  2. my thanks as well for all the tips. DaddyO- hadn't thought of that, sounds like a great idea.
  3. thanks for your report, you sound better than a novice to me. I am a novice and the couple times I've been lately to the LIR, it seems I can't get a very good drift with the low flow and the wind out of the south opposite the flow. I use an indicator, but is it better to do without the indicator with low flow and south wind, just try and keep a tight line to detect a strike?
  4. thanks to both of you for your help. Not anxious for weather that cold, but I know I'm crazy enough to go fishing anyway.
  5. Any suggestions for preventing the guides from icing up if cold enough? Stay home? Haven't been fishing very long, and last winter never got cold enough to be a problem. thanks in advance.
  6. I got several rainbows Sunday afternoon at Watts on a #18 BH Hare's Ear. None of the fish were large, maybe 12" the biggest. The Hare's Ear was dropped under an egg pattern. I don't tie (I guess I should start) but do you mind saying what size hook you are using? Also, I tied the Hare's Ear on 6X, what are you using? thanks
  7. thanks to everyone for your information, very helpful.
  8. It seems lately there has been 2 or 3 horn signals from the dam in the morning long before the signal for the generation in the afternoon. I check the schedule before fishing and try to keep a close eye on water level but I catch myself ignoring the signals before generation is scheduled, as others seem to do. I still plan to keep a close eye on the water, but is there information in the sequence of horn blasts or all the same? I'm a little worried they'll start generating early some day and I'll drown.
  9. Steve- I've fished mostly near the gravel parking lot which is the first turnoff to the right heading down the power plant road to the parking lot just below the dam. The Kiddie Pool is just below the rocks north of the island, you'll see it, but several places are also productive north, east, and south of the island, you'll easily see them. When the water is wadeable it quits flowing west of the island. I think Marvel will let you in free if you just register at the shop on your way in. I only did it once and bought something at the shop to make myself feel better. I'm fairly new and trying to find out more about Watts and the gravel pit myself so hopefully you'll get more answers to add to and correct what I've said.
  10. thanks again, that will give me some things to try. I didn't know that about the midges. Black seemed to work well in the spring, but has really slowed down lately.
  11. thanks, I'll have to go with my store boughts, but I'll give it a try. Since the weather got hot, I've been trying woolly buggers and zebra midges, stuff that worked all spring, but can't seem to get more than maybe one an hour.
  12. thanks for the post, sounds like fun! Do you mind saying what nymphs were working?
  13. Fair enough, you had me going. On the generation, is there any chance of getting more advance notice of the generation schedule? Of course it would be subject to change. They publish Saturday, Sunday, and Monday on Friday evening. Couldn't they estimate for the whole week and then change it if they had to? It would make for easier fishing plans.
  14. Sorry- I meant #14 SJW and #10 woolly buggers- only lost couple of flies
  15. My son and I fished Saturday about 10-2, no generation as to schedule. We were north and south of the island about 1/3 mile down form the dam. Is there a name for this area? I caught several on 14 pink SJW and 10 brown woolly bugger drifting under indicator. My son's first fishing ever and he got one! He'll be back.
