What's the easiest way to dye buck tail? I have heard Kool-aid and certain hair products, but was wondering if there was anything else out there!

This will be my first time fishing the White and I was wondering how everyone felt about using live shiners as bait. I am heading over the first week of March. Also, what are some other techniques to catching big browns?
