I thought you'd all enjoy some GoPro footage from a recent trip to the river. Rubber legs stoneflies, SJWs and eggs all worked well for my buddy and I.
I hope everyone had a nice holiday. Enjoy!
Thanks man. Glad you like the pics.
Yes, I tie all of my own flies. The SJW was just fire orange chenille tied on a #16 scud hook. I was fishing near Tan Vat.
I was on the river at about seven this morning. The weather was in the low 40s and humid with a heavy cloud cover that lasted much of the morning. I started off with an articulated streamer pattern that I came up with but couldn't get any takes. I switched to a #16 copper john which paid off with a nice rainbow after nymphing it through some fast water. I was tempted to switch to a dry as there was heavy top water action occurring. I stuck with nymphs because they seemed to also be working well and I typically take larger fish on them as opposed to dry flies. The fly of the day ended up being the San Juan worm after taking three nice browns on it. The first one pictured was pushing 21" and was only on the ground for a few seconds before I released it. I had no other way to get a pic because there was knee deep water up to the bank and the fish wasn't staying in my net.
Great videos guys! Love the shots of the Ozark countryside.
Glad to see Barren Fork gave up a few bows. I didn't too well on my last trip there. Water was super low and I probably needed to hike further.
I've been using my 6wt much less over the years and now prefer my 8wts. I also throw a large indicator when nymphing so a heavier rod with faster action seems to work well, also for throwing dries in tight spots.
