Hey everybody, I'm new here, so hi!
I decided on a whim to take a day trip and fish the Current. I've fished at Montauk many times, but only one other time in the Current, and that was back when I was lousy at fly fishing.
I arrived at Tan Vat and hit the river at about 9. I fished my way upstream almost to the park. Caught about 7 rainbows using a Glo bug and a heavily weighted mohair leach.
I then hiked back to Tan Vat and worked my way downstream a little ways. It was about noon at this point, and there was a caddis hatch starting to come off. I switched to an Elk Hair Caddis and promptly caught a 10" rainbow. I moved a little further downstream and spent the next half hour being tormented by a rising rainbow that would periodically hit my fly but I couldn't hook up. I finally conceded defeat and left to get some food.
All in all a great day to fish even though it got a little windy. It was amazing to have large stretches of beautiful trout water all to myself on a sunny Saturday. Montauk is lame compared to the Current.
