  1. I couldn't find the exact video i was talking about either. The video was under the user name "kanuhed". It showed the boat pull up next to him and pace him while the camera goes back and forth on the guy and the speedometer. He still has other canadian style paddle videos on his page. The aboriginal tribes who invented the canoe used this style of paddling so it is pretty much the oldest form of paddling there is.
  2. I have a few suggestions that might help you. If it was me I would stick with a tandem even for soloing. You can stand fish on one foot in a tandem(if you wanted to lol), its much harder to do that in a solo. Its easy to paddle a tandem canoe if you turn it around backwards and sit in the bow. Sit with your legs over the thwart and use your hips to steer. A 14ft prospector would work great for this. Also you could learn how to paddle "Canadian style" then the seating becomes irrelevant plus you get the benefit of far greater maneuverability and speed that a normal paddle style wont allow. There are videos on utube of people soloing at 35/40mph using the Canadian style while boats pace them and verify the speeds. If you have your heart set on a solo try expanding you range when looking. We are only about a 20 hr drive from what is considered the mecca of canoeing(BWCA/Quetico) There are hundreds of guides up near Ely, Isabella, or International falls Minnesota. Id start with Piragis if it were me. All of those places sell used stuff and will ship. Good luck in your search

Hello Anglers, My name is Paul and I am very new to the Missouri fishing scene. I live in Illinois outside of stl but, camp and hike all summer long in Mo near Sullivan/Bourbon. I fell in love with the area, and bought some acreage over 1 year ago. I plan to retire in the area but for now I use it for primitive camping, hunting, and morel hunting. . As a construction worker, I have learned that experience is key with everything in life and from the looks of things there are 1000's of years worth of experience on your forum. It was a no brainer for me to join the site, OA is easily the biggest and best Missouri fishing resource on the net. Living out of state makes it hard for me to learn the in n outs and talk with local fishermen but this site helps big time. good luck to everyone and thanks for having me. ps i cant get profile pics to upload, not sure if it is the wrong file size or wrong dot whatever.
  4. very nice fish BCG Thanks for the advice flyflinger and in the right spots that creek is too cold to stand in in July haha. Hey, since your from Sullivan and an outdoorsman, when is the best time to spray for seed ticks? I'd like to get them before they hatch this year. Last year was terrible, I found 14 on me in just a couple hours.
  5. I was looking at the white river ultra lights, three forks, and tfo signature II series because they are all in my price range. Plus they all seem to be 3/4 wt 5-7'. Other than those i cant find much of a selection of small rods but im not in a big hurry. I hope i wont need waders, they don't make them to fit guys like me. I'm 5'6" size with a size 11 shoe, let me know if you see anyone come out with a leprechaun series wader haha
  6. I appreciate you all taking the time to give out all that information. You guys have saved me hours of extra learning and keyed me right in on what is relevant. About the only thing I'm not really clear on is what ColdWaterFshr meant when he said "Don't waste time on long flat pools". Hey, quick question, you guys don't wear full waders do you? I was thinking my 18in mucks would be plenty or even water shoes if the weather is nice. Thanks again for all of your help. paul
  7. After 10 years of hiking and canoeing the Campbell bridge region I bought acreage a few miles down highway n from bsc.I fell in love with the area and spend many weekends down there camping. I just found out by chance that bsc is a blue ribbon trout stream. I was very surprised at first considering I hike this creek yearly and hardly ever see any fish. I am interested in learning to fish this steam.I know this stream doesn't produce monster fish but the idea that they are wild trout right down the road is very appealing to me. From reading other posts in this section I gather bsc inst the easiest place to learn or catch fish but I enjoy a challenge. I'm planing on spending the next few months reading, going to free classes at C and BPS,hiking the creek with fishing in mind and, talking to other fishermen.I plan to fish there this fall which gives me time to learn, practice, and acquire equipment. I'm looking for literature that helps with: rod selection, reel selection, and fly types that works well at bsc. There is a ton of information to learn with fly fishing. I just want to start small on a specific stream then learn about bigger rods, different files, and other fish once i have a good grasp. Thanks for any help you can offer. paul
