Are you serious? And I thought Beaver was a tough lake to fish? Thought the cold front would shut down the bite so I didn't get out there instead stayed closer to home. Now I'm kicking myself. That's an incredible tourney for Beaver. What was the weight of the winning bag?

Like the titel says, what are your recommendations for swimbaits. I'm looking for swimbaits to put on an A-rig. And what's your preferred jig head for an A-rig? Anybody have good luck with Keitechs? I've never tried them but heard good things about them. What else is good out there that you've had good luck with? Thanks and tight lines!

Nice bucketmouth!

Haven't posted a report in awhile so thought I'd give you guys some intel for whatever it's worth to you. I went out to the mouth of roaring river by the waterfall to look for some white bass, crappie, or anything. Water was about 55 degrees in the late afternoon. I fished from about 4:30 to dark using a variety of swim baits, jigs, and the A-rig. Not a single bite. Water was clear I could see the bottom of 8ft of water. Looks like the white bass are not in there yet. Cold front probably shut things down. Hope that helps someone out. Anyone have any luck anywhere else for white bass? Anything up the James?

Thanks Ryan. I appreciate the feedback. Where exactly is Taylor shoals? Everyone tells me something different, some say it's a quarter mile up from blunks, others say 1/2 mile, and some say about a mile up to the bend. I'm fishing from the bank, so how far up the "dirt trail" do I walk/drive to reach Taylor shoals, and what am I looking for?

What tournament is going on and at which ramps? Just so I know which ramps/areas to avoid. Thanks!

Thanks Bill! Nice catches Larson, were those all caught today?

In my experience, the fishing will be tough. They're calling for a cold rain in the forecast for Friday with overnight lows in the low 30's. That's gonna drop the water temp down considerably. Anytime the weather has been warm for a few days, then a sudden cold rain shocks the lake like that, I've never caught fish. They seem to be on lock jaw because of the sudden drop in temps. That's my experience anyways, it's ultimately up to you. It's your gas and your time you'll be spending.

Good grief Seth, are there any left? j/k.....nice catches. How do you cook them? I've never ate one before, but have had my fair share of snagging down in Oklahoma.

When the water is high is the fishing still good for white bass by blunks? or do they just run way up river?
-
I'm thinking about chasing some stripers or whites. Anyone fish the coves in PC and know if the fish might be around there or have seen shad in there recently? Water color there?
-
How's the water looking? What's the water temp? I'm thinking of coming down this weekend to fish. Any help is appreciated.
-
My folks were up there yesterday and the day before and the water was really high and swift and they didn't catch a thing. This cold front isn't gonna help either. I'm thinking once the water comes down and the weather warms back up, the whites will be in there.
-
...you almost had me searching for pictures of the tree until I read that one again.

Those are some nice stripes. Glad you got into them. And yea I wouldn't be too specific on location. Nowadays everyone is an internet scout.

Green is one of the last colors to disappear in water. So it is much easier to see subtle strikes by fish. I use it when fishing for crappie in winter or walleye, but always use a flouro leader so the fish don't see it. I've had great results and have detected strikes I would have not seen with clear line. Just my 2 cents anyways.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess the white bass are all trained in horticulture. As I sure as heck can't tell the difference.
-
Yea they're sure blooming where I'm at (Kansas City). But no white bass in the rivers/creeks yet. Kinda odd. Might need more rain to bring up the rivers. But this cold front coming in this weekend will probably put a damper on fishing for a few days. I think the whites are just holed up somewhere deep waiting on the rivers to rise....or worst, they are spawning in the lake and won't make it up the rivers because of limited flow. I've heard that one before too.
-
So the dogwoods are blooming (trees with white flowers right?) but I haven't had much luck with whites in any of my usual white bass "spots". And most guys I know who's fishing for them aren't doing very good either. Is it too early still? What truly makes the white bass run up the rivers/creeks? Is it water temp, amount of daylight, water flow? Are they just as confused as we are? lol.

Don't stop posting pics of fishes Stump. We like to see someone catching fish. Sometimes I fish beaver thinking no more fish are in there and come back on here just to find out they are by seeing your catches. You do a great job of giving us useful info to help the rest of us become succesful on the water. Don't stop doing what you do. My point was that people shouldn't expect a fisherman to have to give up any info on where he caught his fish. It should be at the descretion of the fisherman.

Very nice stripe. And yes Beaver is a tough lake to fish so I understand why anyone would be tight lipped about it. I'm very tight lipped about all my fishing spots and I don't ever ask anyone where they caught their fish as I would not want to answer the same question myself. Others may beg to differ, but I've had too many instances where I take a friend to my fishing spot and the next weekend him and his buddies are all there. I'm done with that. And to the guy who says every fisherman should share where they catch their fish. 90% of the time they just want intel on where the fish are biting. Very rarely do they give any feedback or post up anything if they caught fish somewhere nobody knew about. Funny how they will try to play it off like it's just fish, and we're all best friends and can share all our secrets with each other. Let's get real now. I'm not on here much, but I know better than to throw a little fit when I don't see a person give up where he caught his fish. It's very bad form to ask, and even worst to cry about it. Anyways, rant over. And again very nice stripe stump!

No you MISSED it. If you dodged it you wouldn't have mentioned anything. Good day!

I don't know what tailwater you're talking about but there was not hundreds of people fishing below Truman dam in the 80's. I lived and fished there my entire life, and fishing was a LOT better in the 80's with a LOT fewer people. And for your last comment, everyone knows shad is THE bait to use for big monster wipers, yet nobody can really fish them alive effectively. I tossed a bone, you obviously missed it.
-
The tailrace use to be a great fishing spot that no one knew about it. Until people started opening their traps. Same thing goes for turkey hunting here. People need to practice a little more restraint in how much info they put out there for the world to see. I tell everyone there's no turkeys here at Truman and steer them someplace else where they can still get a good chance at bagging one. You may call it selfish, I just call it conservation....lol

I don't come on here much, so I apologize for not seeing this post til now. Guess I'll toss a bone. I almost always use live shad. Not only that, but the size of the shad is actually pretty important. Then, figure out a rig that will keep the shad alive and presented in the most natural way possible. I made up my own rig through trial and error. Second, learn how to properly drift shad in fast moving water. That takes practice, and it'll take a long time to master the correct technique. That can't be taught. Remember the 3 rules in your presentation...location, location, location. Know where your bait is in the water column at all times. Know how to read the water to find the fish. Other than that, it's just a matter of knowing when to fish. That's the 50,000 ft level view of how to consistently catch wipers below the dam. Good luck!
