What has been doing good here recently and Ive never fished this tiem of the year soanyone want to explain what the fish are going though at this time of the year? 6. Ok does anyone have any sugestions on any videos on how to spey cast with a regular 9' rod? I have suddenly found a humungous intrest in this type of casting and really want to learn how to do this... Thanks Everyone
  7. Depending on the size of these Hybrids you may even need a 9 or 10 wt... something around 40lbs a 9 could probably handle but if you have any nicks in your rod from falling, a big clouser hitting your rod and knicking the epoxy on your fly rod youll break it so maybe check out a 10wt... (also pm Bill Butts and tell him what your doing and he can give you tons of insight)
  8. I have a Bass pro rod in 8wt that works great for me (at a good price 50$) with a white river reel and I can roll cast a big deer hair popper all over my local ponds and catch some big bass... Ive bought a new rod for got it for 20$ and its a medium fast action (Mill Creek Anyone heard of it?) but try going to a local fly shop tell them what you are going to do and they will probably let you try one of their rods out and when you get into the sport youll probably never want to fling a popper with a spin rod again... (I have completely given up bass fishing with a Spin rod and even Striper fish with a fly rod now its tons of fun!) Good luck and dont give up on it... You might also go into the Temperate bass part and look at Bill Butts post on gear.. Good Luck!
  9. HORNYHEAD NO BIG WORDS !!! lol thats alright... I knew its a Herring but we just call them Herring and not Hickory shad or skipjack herring... (all I know is that theyre really good bait for a striper bait...) Well Ill give you a description of him... He was Blue on the back had a really hard lip and was really long and slinder Hopefully that can give you a better chance on knowing what he was... Cya! So where are them bass?!?!?!? lol
  10. So what part are the white bass up there by? I was at Ft. Gibson dam and caught 5 buffalo a herring and either 3 or 4 whites... I never knew how much fun they were on a fly rod! (I sure wish I coulda started fly fishing for them eirlier )Well we were using a white and chartruse jig bout 8 foot under a large peice of foam and would strip it back and pretty much doodlesock it. It was tons of fun! Well thats all I have to say
  11. Toby Brainchild??? Is that a joke name or is that his real name? The Toby Im talking about is Toby Vaughnan.

  14. Caddis, I was there all of spring break except thursday and Friday So heres my report for the dam. (Monday---Skies were alright and clear not to much wind, fished an orange San Juan with a beadhead, picked up probably 20 or so on 5X tippet dead drift. Fished green Zebra midge with the same results. ) (Tuesday---Skies a bit cloudy wind Ok... Started with some wets and picked up some good fish. Fished the worm and a chamois worn with some good results then a scud and tore em up!) Wednesday fished the zebra and got some good fish today. had one on for bout 2 mins then he came off, I saw him jump once and was probably a pound and a half... Well that was my report...

  19. Well Marval is having their tournament in March on the 2nd 3rd and 4th of March and was wondering who all was going to be fishing in it and what you will be fishing other than you Powerbaiters.... Lol jk nothing wrong with them... (but when your powerbait falls off and we watch as it floats in front of us and we laugh and say Powerbait hatch and a trout eats it... we switch to a bright fly and catch them and you wonder how do they catch them so easy well laugh at you even more!!! nah im just kidding!!!) TTYL guys!
  20. I have been invited to fish a tournament sometime in the year on the Beaver Tailwater and was wondering how to fish and what to fish... I cant remember what time of the year. (Im sorry I know how that makes a total difference in what to use) But will someone tell me if they generate what to fish and if they dont... Thank you all!
  21. I think we should have a limit on tyers instead of a due date? Is anyone against this?

I have recently visited my local fly shop and I was looking at rods when I came acrost this series. Now Bill has told about these rods but Ive never handled one and when I picked it up, You could feel how light it was and yet very, VERY stout. But I was wondering whats the usual price range on one of these fly rods in a 9' 8wt? Thanks guys
  23. Well Im going to do a Hares Ear Flymph in size 14 which works great here on the Lower Illinois. I love to fish it through tree branches in a swing heavily weighted.... :D FlySmallie go to a local flyshop and question the shopkeep about wets... A normal Wet constist of some hackle, a tail, some dubbing and a wing which is a normally white mallard quill But heres a recpie for a royal Coachman Wet Hook: Standard or 1X long,1X or 2X stout, size 10-16. Thread:Black 6/0 or 8/0 nylon. Hackle: Dark Brown Hen. Tail: Golden pheasant tippet fibers. Butt: Peacock herl. Body: Red Floss. Shoulder: Peacock herl. Wing: White Mallard quill. This is a basic yet kind of hard if youve never done them... nice looking fly and very classic looking
  24. Ill get in on this one.... well only if I can get up to the fly shop here pretty soon....
  25. Thanks guy if you would please list a list of materials and all that what colors and whatnot thank you for all the positive feedback. If you could would you also post where I could see the midge pattern tied? Thank you all
