Lake Springfield Outboard Motor Limit
jbooth replied to jbooth's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I emailed mdc about this, here is the response i got back Mr. Booth: Thank you for contacting us. I checked into it and it does seem to be a conflict. It may be that we need to amend the Wildlife Code. I am copying appropriate staff here to see that we get the issue resolved. In the meantime, it would be best to follow the City Utilities' regulation (6 h.p. limit) because that is the more conservative of the two restrictions. -
I ran across this today, "rules of department of conservation, division 10, chapter 12 wildlife code : special regulations, areas owned by other entities" date 7/31/12. On page 3, section 3 csr 10-12.110, part 5 it says outboard motors not in excess of ten (10) horsepower may not be used on the following area: (a) springfield city utilities ( lake springfield). Does anyone know if they have, or are in the process of upping the hp limit at lake springfield? I got this document from the mdc under area regulatins on the are summary page for lake springfield, however the area summary page still states 6 hp

Southwood Boat Ramp Closed
jbooth replied to jbooth's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
There are signs posted that the ramp is closed, with a small barrier at the top of the ramp. Parking lot is not closed, and you could launch a kayak or canoe, just closed for launching from a trailer -
Took the boat to springfield lake only to discover the boat ramp was closed, came home and just the area summary page at the mdc website and there is a notice there that the southwood ramp is closed dueto low water level

Ok, so i watched craigslist and happen to see n ad for a flea market with pictures of the booth.i could see a few items in uthe pictures that looked like they could have been mine so went to check it out. Wife and i walked in the booth, first thing my wife sees are both the kids poles, my tckle bag, and was also there, along with the cricket cage and my grandpas knife. I have talked to the dealer and he bought the stuff from a guy who ran an add on cl, and he said he had more stuff he had bougt from tje guy at the same time at his house and would meet me at the flea market with that stuff to hsee if it was mine, he had one of the ultralights and had already sold the other, he had one of the baitcast reels but it had been put on a difernt rod before he bought it, he also had the rod the other baitcast was on, but not the reel, he also had two other reels that were not mine. He was also able to provide a description of the guy he bought it from, aswell as what he drove, and some other info about the guy that hshould lead the sheriff dectives right to him. Now just waiting on the sheriffs office so i can actually get my stuff back, wixh by th way the dealer is willling to let me have it back, and has been very helpfull and coropritve

I am doing that also

I almost forgot there was also a medium weight mitchel spinning outfit, the ruber part of the reel handle was missing

Had alot of fishing gear stolen out of my boat last week, i doubt i ever see any of it again, but thought i would post what was stolen in case anyone sees it, there was a browning tackle bag full of tackle, had my grandfathers old fillet knofe in it with an old leather sheath for it, also had, a large varity of tubes in it, a badly sun faded red cricket cage. 2 browning ultralights, 1 was 6 1/2 ft the other was 7 ft, with ligt browning spining reel, blue in color. 2 browning baitcast, onwas gold in color on a browning rod the other was green on a bass pro brand rod, the worst part is they also stole my kids rods 1 was a batman shakespere spincast the other was a red short zebco spincast about 3 1/2 to 4 ft long

Lake Springfield Ramp
jbooth replied to jbooth's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
No my boat is a 63 and the motor is a 56, like you the trailer is newer, 2001 but i think it will be ok, my concern is if it is any worse this weekend, not sure what the lake bottom does much past the ramp, and just concerned if its much lower if i will be able to unload at all -
Went out to lake springfield last weekend and found the end of the ramp before the boat was in the water far enough to unload it, does anyone know how bad it is now?
-
The signs that are posted with the size and limits does clearly state lone and pole. When i came it at almot 1 am that left only one trailer there, but i never saw their boat anywhere, i saw you head in zander and two other around that same time, after that i ran down almost to the boat house, so they must have been out on the main lake or up river from the raMp

Went out to springfield lake sat night. While i was out i counted 5 jug lines that someone had put out. When i got back to the ramp i was meet by a conservation afent, who was extremly nice and friendly i might add, but she asked if i had seen the jug lines if they were still out or if they were mine, i told her they wernt mine but yes when i came back in they were still out. Thats when she told me that she needed to talk to the people thqt had put them out because the lake was a pole and line fishing only area. No i had seen on the board the pole and line only statement, but had never really thougt much about it, and had been thinking when i saw those jug lines that wouldnt be a bad idea to try. So im actually glad i talked to the agent because now i do know they are not allowed at springfield lake. Of coarse i should have known that with the board stating pole and line only anyway lol. Guess im just starti.g to get a little old

Waht does everyone think, if we get the rain today like the forecasters say we might, do you think that might kickstart the fishing a little?

Lake Springfield (Southwest Region) Information: (417) 895-6880 Driving directions: On Highway 65, go west on James River Expressway to National Avenue and turn south. At Briar Street, turn east and continue as Briar becomes Kissick Avenue and tracks south to the dam. Clay Henshaw Memorial Access (on the west side of Lake Springfield) is just past the dam on the left. To reach Southwood Access (on the east side of Lake Springfield just west of the Highway 65 Bridge), take the Evans Road exit off Highway 65; go west on Evans, then north on Southwood. Largemouth bass fishing will be good as the population's size structure has continued to remain relatively consistent since 2003, providing bass in all size ranges. Electrofishing surveys indicate that a good portion of the largemouth bass will be greater than 15 inches. Several largemouth bass will exceed 18 inches. The percentage of bass in the 12 to15-inch protected slot will be similar to 2011, and will continue to provide great catch-and-release fishing opportunities. An abundant population of gizzard shad is providing ample forage, increasing the chances to catch a trophy bass at Lake Springfield. Spotted bass have also been observed in Lake Springfield, and several should be available for harvest. Crappie anglers can continue to expect some fishing success this year. Quality size crappies exist, but are limited in number. White crappie is the dominant crappie species. Several bluegill greater than 6 inches were observed in the 2011 electrofishing surveys, but angling success for bigger bluegill still depends on location as areas that are heavily fished have fewer bluegill greater than 6 inches. The redear sunfish population continues to develop with more and larger redear sunfish being observed in our 2011 sampling efforts. Channel catfish are preferred by many Lake Springfield anglers and should continue to provide excellent fishing. Many 10 to 20-inch channel catfish are present. Favorite baits include nightcrawlers, chicken livers, and prepared dough baits. Anglers also have an opportunity to catch a variety of stream fishes such as golden redhorse suckers, bullheads, common carp, rock bass (goggle-eye), longear sunfish, and green sunfish. Community Assistance Program fishing facilities are available and include a barrier-free fishing jetty, disabled user fishing dock located near the dam, and a boat launching ramp on the east end of the lake. Lake Springfield has a 6-horsepower limit on boat motors. Lake Springfield is also part of the James River Water Trail, and canoes and kayaks are available (seasonally) for rent through the Springfield-Greene County Park Board at Lake Springfield Park.
