  1. Has anyone had any luck at busch in the spring? I have been thinking about trying to do some crappie and bass fishing there this year. Might even try to catch a musky at lake 35.
  2. Are there any good striper holes in or around the st Louis area? I have never caught one and it is on my list of fish to catch.
  3. Went to the spring today and had a really fun trip. It was my third time fly fishing and I didn't catch any trout just a bunch or rockbass. I did catch some smallies on spinning gear though. The water was very muddy which might have affected the fishing. Around three in the afternoon there was some kind of hatch in and near the first riffel because the trout were going wild! My brother and I missed a few but they only seemed interested in whatever they were feeding on. Some guys were catching them during this hatch on glo bugs but only in the fast water. Hope to get back there soon
  4. Is there access to the mammoth spring campground even to people who aren't staying there?
  5. Sounds awesome! I will check it out. Thanks
  6. I think we will be be going in march not Abril but thanks for the info! Also is the fly shop open year round?
  7. I am going to be down at the river near mammoth spring around march tenth. This will be my first time so I need some tips on flys/lures to use for trout this time of year. Also I'd like to know which accesses would be best for shore fishing/wading. Thanks!
  8. Are there any access points in this area that would be good for shore fishing?
  9. Is there any good Access for shore fishing between the park and Scott's ford that I could go to?
  10. Ok thanks good to know
  11. I am trying to plan my next trip to the spring. When does the park close down? Are the still open on presidents day?
  12. I was also out at 28 today and caught some decent trout on a wooly bugger. They were my first fish ever caught on a fly rod
  13. I know there is a shop there but it may be closed for winter. I got some single hook rooster tails from bass pro and dick sporting goods though. Bps had the best selection.
  14. Cool! I will check that out next time. And yes the big riffle where the river divides is where I was fishing.
  15. Fished just above castlewood for about an hour. Had one bite on a tube and that's it. Found a pretty good spot though. I can't wait to get back out with more time
  16. About to go cure some cabin fever on the Mac. I will report back on how I did later.
  17. Wow.. I did see some guys who work for the park driving around all the time watching people fish. They drove right by me while using the tube and just kept going. I guess they either didn't see or didn't want to get out of their car because of the cold haha
  18. Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. Is there any decent largemouth or spotted bass fishing on the lower Mac?
  19. Does anybody know of any decent smallmouth fishing in or around castle wood state park? I have always wondered about that place because it is much closer to my house than any of the more popular smallmouth spots. Any info would be appreciated
  20. Yes I do have some pictures but I'm new on this forum and am still figuring out how to post them. Also, I should have thought about that soft plastics rule I was just really excited to see all those big smallies swimming around I completly forgot and tied on a tube. Next time I will use a different lure
  21. Got out to the springs today and over all had a pretty successful trip. My younger brother caught three nice bows on jig/bobber. My dad and I pulled in some very nice smallies on three inch tubes including one 4 pounder. As for fly fishing, my friend and I hooked up with a few fish on glo balls and wet nymphs but no fish landed. The water is crystal clear and for us deeper holes where the bottom isn't visible was most productive for smallmouth and trout. Very fun day I will be going back soon!
  22. Thanks for the tips! I'm going down the 27 or 28 and I'll definitly post about how it went
  23. awesome! I think I'm ready to go thanks a lot for your help!
  24. . Nice job! I will take my bass gear down as well. Specifically what parts of the park were the trout stacked up in? I'm afraid I won't have enough time to fish the whole park and then down into the meramec so Iv been trying to find specific places to fish in the park. Thanks!
  25. I have fished 21 and 28 so far this year. Since they are the only catch and release, I'll probably fish them the whole season. I usually catch fish using trout worms under a float on windy days and small jigs or trout magnets on calmer days. Haven't caught any big ones yet but lost one that had to be five pounds. I'm also getting a fly rod soon so hopefully I can get a few on that.
