  1. Update on sizing, Toggs arrived today and of course the big kid I am I had to wear them around the house and yard. I ordered the XL regular, Im 6'3" 230 and they fit perfect. Plenty room to layer clothes but not bulky. My size 12 feet fill the booties, could stand to be a tad bigger but will be ok.
  2. Looking to tie up a few flys, what is the best streamers for the NFoW for lets say Dec and Jan?
  3. A lot of girls buy a bike because it looks cool in the driveway.
  4. Upper current, and what made it even worse was we seen it from the bank slipped in above it and she only made a few cast floating a egg in front of it, She thinks there is no real trick to this fly fishing lol. Came home the next week and told her I only caught 1 fish and she questioned if I even went fishing lol.
  5. Those are some awesome fish and I did try the marabou under an indicator because of those pictures. But I HAAAAAATE casting an indicator in the wind (couldnt be that I cant do it lol) and gave up pretty quick. I would also like to add to the reveiw even though I havent stayed there. Earlier in the year I was looking for places to ride and camp, and one of the camping or canoe forums said that the road into sunburst was way to steep for a bike, and I didnt concider it. Last week while in the area I drove down to the campground to find out for myself. All I can say is the dude that made that post either hadnt had his mommy remove his training wheels yet or he was riding a harley. I didnt see a Honda having any issues
  6. I just sold a pair of Bone drys that I have had for 12 years with no leaks and barley looking worn. But as I have gotton older they became very limiting on range of motion and the boots were heavy and clumsy. My wife said they were gonna drown me lol. So my choice was between the frogg togg hellbenders and cabela's dry plus g2. I based my decision on three things, pockets, extra reinforcment and reveiws. I found a reveiw from a guy that actually bought both and he said the frogg toggs hands down. More features and better fit. So after being very disapointed in the cheap hodgmans that I hoped would make it until santa clause could come (leaked on 4th trip, wifes leacked first trip) we now have frogg togg hellbenders on the way........... probaby could have sprung for some simms if someone would not have just bought another rifle
  7. OOOOHH dont destroy my impression of the NFoW. I am still catching myself slipping off into these wonderful daydreams, it is helping ease the pain of not finding any deer. lol And I have to come clean on the big brown, I wish I could say it was all skill but that would not be totally true. I hit a hole where I caught probably 15 or twenty suckers in a row and was considering walking on to the truck to get a soda and sandwich. So I started making a few hap hazard casts as I was walking to the bank, Thats when i hooked him, dont know who was more surprised him or me. LOL my wife went with me on her first trout fly fishing trip the middle of October, took her about 30 miniutes and she caught her first rainbow, it was 23 inches. She looks at me and askes " is that a good fish". LOL Justin I dont think skill has anything to do with it, even a blind hog finds a kernal or corn every now and then.
  8. Ok this may seem like a really nieve or ignorant post to those that are aware of what I just learned. Let me give you some back ground to explain my revolation. From my house it is 115 miles to greer springs (eleven Point), 128 miles to Baptist Camp (current river) and a 158 miles to Patrick bridge. So I have always found it easier to make a day trip to one of the first two places to trout fish. This summer has been really unpredictable on the current and eleven point. The good days have been balanced out by the bad days this year. For the last 20 years I have made almost every deer and turkey season camping just above Hales crossing on the NFoW. And every year I have taken a fly rod and caught some good smallmouth with in a couple miles of where we have always camped. And every year I said I would make a trip down south to fish the trout stretch of the river but never did. So this deer season I took a couple extra days and made it a point to fish for trout. The first day I started about 10am just above Patrick bridge at 2:45 I made it to the corner just below the bridge. If I were to count the red horse in my totals, I caught over a hundred fish 31 of which were trout. I only caught 5 rainbows, but the browns I caught were amazing Biggest being just over 25". Next day was more of a sight seeing day, but every access spot produced some good fish, even had several dry fly bites, But swinging a bead headed prince was the ticket. I feel like I have missed so much now that I realize that for the past 20 years I could have been getting in on some amazing fishing. BUT now I have a new favorite destination. And what a nice surprise to spend the entire day on such a beautiful and productive fishery all alone.
  9. For some time now I have been checking this site for river levels, fishing reports and basic information on different fishing destinations, and thought it only approriate I join since I was getting so much useful information from the good members here LOL. Grewing up in an area where my family has had such deep and long ties to the mingo national wildlife area and lake Wappapello area fishing has been as much a part of my life as breathing.
