  1. I made a scissor type blind a couple of years ago for my 16ft Lowe Roughneck using conduit and cordura as a base material. I installed grommets to the cordura. I used these points to secure the cordura to the blind frame. When the blind is up, it is tight and I have not had any issues with ripping or tearing. The cordura is a durable fabric to begin with. I have been pleased with the material. This year I added a TON of raffia and other materials to break up the outline of the boat. I hope that helps you out.
  2. Sweet pics!
  3. Nice pic!
  4. I was having luck with purple/chart Crappie Magnets last week in that general area.
  5. Really? Of course things like this don't get under my skin. It might be a little inconvenient, but it's not going to be a deciding factor if I had a good/bad trip out. I am sure I have been on the ignorant (not being educated on an issue) end of a situation before. Maybe a little education via a note would be better. That's just how I approach situations I suppose. On a side note, get out there and catch a few fish. Put in over by Cedar Ridge a couple days ago and came home with 2 limits of crappie and a few walleye. There bit'n!
  6. Went and checked on some birds for the kidos this weekend and decided to wet a line while I was out. Put in at Aldrich about 0830 and decided to go up the river and target crappie. The water temp at the ramp was 53. Went up river until I found 54-55 degree water and started drowning minnows on a float targeting stick ups. Caught a few crappie here and there. Went up river to the 90 degree turn to the left where the islands are at. Picked up a few more up there on a small stretch of an ugly ol mud bank using jigs. Color didn't seem to matter. The bite quit there and decided to head back to the ramp hitting a few of the spots that we caught fish on earlier. No dice in the way back. Got back to the ramp about 1300 and ended up with a bakers dozen between two of us. It was a great day to be out. While on the river we saw several fish surfacing and marked several fish on the bottom. May have been whites moving up?
  7. I am in the market for some electronics and have the two in the title in mind. The Lowrance is a new model selling for $399 and the Hummingbird is a discontinued model on sale for $379 ($499 reg). I was hoping to get a couple of thoughts from folks that are familiar with one, or both of these units. I fish local lakes around Sprimo and will primarily target Crappie and Eyes. I apreciate any input.
  8. Thanks straw!
  9. I haven't been on the water since we got all the rain. I was hoping to see if anyone has been by the CC ramp. Is it in good shape or do you have to back down the hill? Thanks!
  10. Today was a great day for us. I put my kidos and pops on a few fish. We started out in the cove just SE of the bridge using minnows. We just drifted around a while until we found a spot where we ended up catching 3 crappie and a few short bass. The rain started in around 10:00 I think and we headed back to the dock. When got back out about noon and headed into what I think is Brush Creek. We tried to hit a few stick ups throwing swimming minnows and dropping a few minnows straight down with no luck. We decided to hit a few points and try our luck at bass fishing for a while. We started where the creek splits and stayed there most of the day. We probably ended up with approx 30 bass and a crappie between three of us. We caught 90% of the bass the Ned Rig using a peanut butter and jelly Zero (that's what it says on the package anyway). It really didn't seem to matter on the retrieve (drug, swam, hopped, etc), but the bites where fairly light (tap, tap, and a little tug). Thanks again for the helpful hints. I don't claim to be a bass fisherman or be all that knowledgeable about it, so if I can catch'em, it's should be safe to say that just about anybody can. So get out there and gett'm. We weren't after size, but for those curious I would guess the best 5 would have gone between 12-15 lbs.
  11. Well we went this evening to a little cove across from the long creek ramp and caught a few crappie and a few bass throwing swimming minnows. One of the crappie was a good'n and the other fish where dinks. We had to get them close to the bottom to get bit. The color didn't seem to matter. Three of us caught about 6 fish total in an hour of fishing with several more bites and a couple long distance releases. Not too bad for just checking things out before we give it a good effort tomorrow. The depth finder read 55 degrees at the mouth and water had good color to it. If the rain gives us a chance we are planning on drowning a few minnows SE of the bridge and may run into the creek if it's not too muddy. Thanks for the helpful info again!
  12. Thanks for the helpful tips! I will report back with a couple reports in the coming days.
  13. I will be in the long creek area this weekend and will be trying to get my kids and dad on a few fish. I am targeting #'s and everything we catch will go back in the lake (possibly keep a few crappie). I'm hoping we can catch a few crappie off of some timber and a few bucks on some spawning banks. I would appreciate any vague info on my plan of attack. I will only be down there a couple days and thought I would try to speed up my learning curve a little by utilizing some info here. Thank you and will report back on Monday.
  14. I was reading 51 a week ago near High Point.
  15. Thanks Bob! That does help. With this cold front pushing through it might be a little bit before I give it a go. Then the pattern will be totally different and I will have to ask a whole different batch I questions. Thanks!
  16. Thanks for the report! Would you be willing to share what kind if banks you are keying on?
  17. Well, we started at outlet two about 8. Like mentioned a I've it was windy and cold. My buddy and I haven't used the ol' fly rid in a while so we decided to start of drifting scuds and y2k's under and indicator. We stayed at outlet two for a couple hours and the y2k was the fly of choice. We probably caught 15 or so there. Went on down to outlet one and caught a few more. It was cold and windy but a good time was had.
  18. I haven't posted in quite some time and figured might as well post something that just makes sense. Anyone else going to fish in the balmy night air tonight?
  19. Well, thanks for the info! Ended up putting in at Old State Oark without any issues! The only hindrance was the wind. I put out some brush for the crappie this spring and then hit a few points throwing a jerk bait. Picked up a couple bass and then tried the bottom bouncer for some eyes. No dice on the eyes. Headed back to the ramp about 2 hrs later and marked it up as a success.
  20. I was thinking about getting the boat wet in the morning and was going to see if there would be any issues putting in, or better yet, taking out? I got a fairly heavy boat with a 2 wheel drive truck. Thanks! Nathan
