  1. You are going to get 15 answers to this questions, as you would with most "what should i use" type questions. So I will give you what I have had success with. I have read, and experienced success with, this rule with color (Specific to walley): "Walley can see blak, red, orange, chartuese contrasts best" However, I think the most important question you didn't ask about was action desired of the jerkbait in comparison to water temp/season Subtle Action : "Early Spring and Late Fall when water temperature is 50 degress and under, subtle action baits are most successful these are classfied as straight minnow type crank baits.) Moderate Action: " As the water temperature increases during late spring into early summer to 50 to 60 degrees it’s time for moderate action. The moderate action lures will have a slightly deep diving lip, sporting a curved body profile to enhance the action." High Action: "When the water temperature reaches 70 degrees and above during the mid summer peak, it’s time to think aggressive as the walleye feeding and its metabolism rate is peaking, high action crankbaits are the best choice" I think to best answer your question, you be best off looking at this website: http://www.walleye411.com/fishing-for-walleyes-using-crankbaits/ which is where I got the information on action. This should give you a more intuitive place to start looking for "best jerkbait size and color". Hope this helps, good luck!
  2. 'Bout the same as WayneSW/MO...i couldn't throw a rock to skip accross the water without it nose diving on gravel peeking above the surface. I went to barkers hole for about 90 mins, fished rock bluff...it was deep enough to throw a flicka'shad without scraping bottom. Threw a shad collored thin fin, black/silver jerk, copper/black jerk, white swimming minnow, chart swimming minnow, and white/silver inline-spinner. Nothing. tried about 1/2 miled down from powersite, on powersite side, same presentations...nothing. Much more shallow there though, like 4-5' maybe, and I think I just found a good hole. I had fun flexing my fishing muscles though, and the weather was nice enough, bit cold in the morning. I fished from 7-11am al together.
  3. Highway 13 public use - does this area have access for bank fishing? Google maps doesn't show enough road detail for me to get a good picture of it.
  4. Any recommendations? I have limited my fishing to Stockton for the last several years. I have my favorite catfishing spot, favorite LM spots, favorite walley spots, favorite white bass spots, etc. I have been avoiding TR because of my assumptions that it is too busy, but then I realized that its just a wee bit larger than Stockton and could probably support a few more anglers ;-) I dont own a boat (3 kids, a mortgage, the whole fishermans broke sob story), so bank fishing is what I do 90% of the time, the rest of the time I bum a boat ride from a friend when he needs a "co-angler". I know TR is a good fishery, but I think the vast size has also steered me away too. I just don't know where to get in and do some good bank fishing, so any pointers are welcomed, and willing to swap spots on stockton too.
  5. I most definitely will
  6. I live in springfield, and am wanting to do some bank fishing in the Cape Fair area. Not picky on species, but wouldn't mind catching some whites the the Dogwoods start shedding. Any pointers you can give would be appreciated, as I am not as familiar with Cape Fair.
  7. Excellent, thanks a lot guys. This will give me something to look forward to. I have a 35lb troller, so we should be good ;-)
  8. I find this an appropriate time and direction for the conversation, Jack...I will await the comments with you!
  9. I appreciate the insight, and letttin me know a "pocket" on the vest ;-) I probably fished that forsyth 30+ times last year, mostly for White bass. I know the locals swear by a certain type lure, that I happened to have 0 luck with...BUT! I did find my own trick for them rascally whites, and was able to swap some fishing secrets with a few of the locals and found it very valuable and very understandable (to your point) as to why people don't like to share their tackle box techniques as freely. Lst spring/summer I walked away with more notches in my belt for white bass catches than I did in previous years and in comparison to other locations. Forsyth has become one of my favorite areas, mostly because of combined quality and short drive for me from Springfield. I will let you know how I do with the eyes this weekend :-) Tight Lines!
  10. ANy place between Powersite and Barkers? Or just as close to powersite as I can?
  11. great info guys, thanks so much
  12. Very good, thank you! So safe to assume then that good 3/0 hook and some plastics (babay paca's, hula grubs, etc), couple roostertails, 3" grubs, and a frog or zarra spook would be a decent arsenal to start with?
  13. THis spring, I will have a friend working up in Ft Leonard Wood, and it appears that Gasconade River is the closest body of water between there and Springfield. I have never fished the Gasconade, so wanted any insight one may be willing to share of the body of water, and the fish-ability (if that is a word). We have a small 10' john boad, but dont mind walking the bank either. Not too picky on species either, we just really enjoy fishing together and need to find a middle road on where? I saw Hazelgreen access right off hwy44, is it worth a shot? What kind of fish can you find on this river, and what is worth using? Thanks in advance
  14. Im heading to empire park on Saturday morning, but wanted to try and catch a walleye below powersite. I understand the water level is very low, and wanted to know if there were any good bank fishing spots that would be worth a shot between powersite and barkers hole? If so, where...and what would be the best approach; stick bait, worm, swimming minnow, jig?
  15. Perfect, thank you! Im going to hit it up on Saturday morning, very early.
  16. using a bobber or sinker?
