For sale is a newer (used once) TFO BVK fly rod. This is a 9 ft 5 wt 4PC Rod that has one of the best reputations in the fly fishing community. Perfect for streams, lakes or larger rivers. This Rod can delicately deliver a dry fly up close, or bomb a double nymph rig 60ft into the wind. Rod does have blemish/scratch on butt of rod but other than that has only been fished one time and is in mint condition. Does not come with bag or tube. Selling an Allen Kraken in sz 2 (4-6 wt) fly reel. These reels are notorious for the amount of product you get at a fraction of the cost. The price for this reel is $209 on Alllen's site, which is an incredible deal. Where are you guys finding commons in or around west St. Louis county (ballwin/manchester area)? I know they are pretty hard to catch but I can't even seem to find them at local lakes and ponds. Any info of some good watersheds near by would be awesome!

Has anyone ever fished for trout ABOVE where the spring dumps in? I had a chance to walk this section a little last time I was down in the area but only managed about 200 yds until the rain started and I had to head back. It looks like an awesome gin clear stream and would be a blast to fish to get your small stream fix. Just curious if the water above even has trout in it. I know the red ribbon area technically starts 2 miles above at woodson k but was just seeing if others have seen trout in that stretch this time of year.

Has anyone been down to blue springs creek lately? If so what's it been like? Have the started moving down stream yet?

Thanks for the responses. And yeah I know water clarity has nothing to do with catching fish but as I stated before...as someone who ties flies it'd be real nice to see the reaction fish have when it passes by them. Blind casting gets old and even when you don't catch anything, being able to see the fish in the water and pursue them makes it feel more productive. I have thought about golf course ponds but am unsure about which ones allow fishing and which don't. Tappawingo looks like it could be nice...has anyone fished there at all? And old plug, are you talking about the duplex complex with the three lakes and the main one being the one with the fountain?

Does anyone know of any lake, river or creek close to or in St. Louis county with some decent water clarity? I primarily Fly Fish and would really like to find some place closer to home that has an opportunity to sight fish. Its frustrating going to lakes with the water clarity worse than old toilet water (before you flush) and not being able to actually see fish, see the strike, observe the interest in the fly, or even be able to tell the depth of the water. I know it is probably a lot to ask for living in a place like St. Louis but one has to think that theres gotta be SOMEWHERE around here like that. I'm about to start a really intense paramedic program and wont have time to drive an hour and a half to the Meramec at the drop of a hat anymore but I cant just not fish. That's crazy talk. And I'm not keying in on just bass either. Any and all help is appreciated.

Selling a used Patagonia Stealth Atom Sling pack. This thing is awesome to use on the water. Meramec springs never freezes. The water stays at a constant temp around 50 degrees I believe. Below the spring you will see ice shelves at the junction of the river and the spring branch. The river on that side will be near freezing, but once you get waist deep in the spring water it feels like a hot tub. So to answer your question, yes its fishable and no it doesn't freeze over.
