  1. Trophy I would say Old Plug would be a good one to ask
  2. I went through my father in-law's tackle box and found these. I was curious if anyone could help me identify these so I can find out a little more about them. Thanks. This one says rebel on the bill but nothing else. 2" 2" 2" 2" These just say Vortex on the bill
  3. Only place I have fished is the Lindley arm by Nemo. The only place I have done any good is the cove straight across from the Nemo Marina cove, I think its called Robertson cove or something like that. I set anchored jug lines back in where it narrows and caught one nice channel and one small one overnight. Set some down around Mill Creek cove and didn't catch anything but a turtle. I'm not real good at fishing Pomme so if you go and do well feel free to share.
  4. Thanks Shaker. I think we were actually fishing too deep. Most of the water we were in was 25-30. I could mark fish but couldn't get any to bite. I have one of the books with all the MO lakes in it. Are there better maps out there?
  5. Thanks for the info. That is something I would like to learn. I fish mainly LOZ and catch some hybrids in the fall and winter up there. Thinking about targeting cats in the summer to fill my time between spring and fall. It is something I have always wanted to do but never had the patience for but as I get older I get a little more patient.

    Slow Day

Went to Truman today for the first time in probably 15 years. I don't usually fish this time of year anymore so I reverted to what I know. Took minnows and drowned them in the trees around Shawnee Bend toward 7 Bridge and back in the Little Tebow. Didn't even catch a perch. Everyone I talked to had the same report so I really didn't feel to bad about my luck. The bad is when I returned to Shawnee to load the boat my adaptor for my trailer lights was gone. It was there when I launched because my lights were on. There is a very, very slight chance that it fell off but I don't think it did. I hate to accuse but I think someone else is enjoying my adaptor. My fault for leaving it on the trailer. Anyway, down towards the 7 Bridge and in some other places I seen boats setting out in the middle of what seemed like nowhere fishing. What are these anglers seeing out there that makes them fish the area? Is it flats, structure, road beds, fence rows etc. and what are they fishing for? I would really like to expand my fishing experience into these hotter months but I really don't know what to look for or how to fish these areas. At least it wasn't 100 degrees.
  7. I use the stringer for counting. My boat has a small front live well that won't hold a limit so when it gets full I put them on a stringer and move them to the back. Makes counting a lot easier but I have got back to the ramp and discovered 16 crappie on my stringer also. Never been caught but its a little embarrassing when I have a buddy with me.
  8. I had a little luck fishing around Mill Creek with jugs and live perch/bluegill. This was my first year trying it so maybe I will get better. I tried some limb lines with no luck. Most of the fish I caught were in the 5 to 6 pound range with several channels, a few flats and one blue. I did catch a flat in the 20 pound range several weeks ago. I tried Pomme this weekend with absolutely no luck. Stockton, LOZ, Truman or TR seem to be the best from what I have read but I have only tried TR and Pomme.
  9. Nice catch
  10. Well, I have just started with the jug fishing. I usually quit fishing when it gets hot cause I don't chase the bass so to expand my fishing time I started jugging. This is just the third time I have done it in two years so I am on a learning curve. The reason I caught the bass may very well be because I put my jugs in bass water instead of catfish. I caught three bass in one night on two jugs in the back of a narrow cove where a creek comes in. Center of the cove was about 30' deep and I set mine in about 15 fow. I anchor my jugs and they have three hooks a piece on them. I use live bait when I can. We had some kids with us this weekend so we just went out with crappie jigs and caught all our perch, which made it fun for the kids. I haven't done very well on cut baits or shrimp, but then again I haven't done this much. My brother-inlaw used strictly cut bait but he fishes Truman. He and his buddies put out a total of 150 hooks Sunday night and caught 31 catfish. I gotta get better at this so I can beat him.
  11. My jugs that I caught most of the bass on were in about 15 FOW and the fish were on the hooks that were at 2' and 7' off the bottom. I only put these out at night anchored and checked them in the mornings around 7 so they were all caught at night. The one in the picture was caught along the bluffs just past the island near Mill Creek campground in 30 FOW and he was on the hook that was at about 15' from the bottom. One of them took a perch that was probably 5" long. Too big for jugs but that night the small perch were hard to come by.
  12. According to my map we were in Mill Creek, west of the campground. It shows Little Mill Creek just west of that. We did move out on bigger water a little up towards the James by the island fishing the bluffs but all we caught was this fellow. Took a picture and returned him to the water to fight another day. We caught several of em on the jug lines this weekend. More of those than catfish.
  13. Been jug fishing on Mill Creek every night since Saturday. Caught a nice flathead Saturday and nothing but only three bass on Sunday. Moved the jugs out to the edge of deeper water and have done better. This morning had a blue and a channel along with a bass. We are going to set them one more night and see what happens. Think I will move closer to the main lake and also put out some limb lines.
  14. I caught a nice flathead at Mill Creek last weekend on jugs. Trying again this weekend but striking out. Did hook a largemouth this morning when I checked the jugs. Maybe in the morning we will have some cats. This is all new to me so it is learn as I go. Good luck.
  15. Put out anchored jugs Thursday night with live bait, 12 hooks total. Checked them Friday morning with my wife and had nothing. Friday evening took my son out, caught some perch and baited 9 hooks. Saturday morning had a gar and this flathead. This is the first non-channel cat I have caught. They do look a little spooky coming up from the depths. Let my son run the trolling motor and pull in the jugs so this was pretty exciting for him too. The look on his face when he said "Dad....I think we got something here" was priceless. At 17 I don't get to spend much time with him.
  16. Does anyone anchor their jugs on TR or is that not a good idea? I have never jug fished on TR and my experience is limited with jugs in general. I have been anchoring mine at Pomme and leaving them overnight. Don't think I can get my wife interested if we are just settin there watching jugs. Will be fishing out of the Mill Creek campground.
  17. A small "island" of them in the very back of Russell Cove across from Nemo Landing Marina. Shallow water, about 3'. I assume they are lily pads, maybe not. You can see them in the picture.
  18. So, put out the jugs this past weekend. Wasn't planning to hit it to hard so we took three with us. Mine are 17' long with a brick on bottom and three hooks at various depths along the main line. Baited with large raw shrimp to begin with and put them out Saturday morning in Russell cove. Checked them a few times over the next few hours and had nothing. When I checked them the last time before lunch I cut a perch and baited two hooks. When we came back in the evening to check we had one. The brick had come loose and the cat was tangled in the lilies. He bit on the perch head. Re-baited and left them overnight and had a short the next morning. It was fun and it is a learning process but hoping to put em out next week.
  19. I am pretty new to catfishing so this may sound silly. Is there a difference between bait shrimp and just raw shrimp you can buy at the grocery store?
  20. Thats a nice one. I have never fished for catfish at the lake, only ponds, so this is all new to me. Will probably take me a few times to figure it out but hopefully I will.
  21. I don't have a net for shad and wouldn't even know how to do it. Is there a bait shop close to Nemo that sells them? I am probably only putting out a few so I won't need very many.
  22. Thanks Oneshot. We will muddle through and hopefully catch a few.
  23. Camping at Nemo next weekend and would like to throw out a few jugs. Any suggestions on what the best bait is? Should I just catch some perch or get goldfish and hook em up? I have only jug fished once in my life and it was there at Nemo. Only thing I caught was a circle hook in my thumb which won me a trip to the ER. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I prefer to anchor them and leave them over night but I can free float them and stay with them in the evening. Thanks.
  24. Yes, I agree that most of my issues come from dry carpet and trailer too deep. I am very patient on the ramp with people backing in my trailer, even my wife. I never scream, yell or wave my hands. If there is an issue I stop the process and go talk it over. It drives me crazy to see men yelling at their wives on the ramp. I can unload pretty quick but I don't get loaded on in three minutes, especially with this new (to me) boat. The ring on the bow is way to low and I have trouble hooking up the winch. In the summertime I just climb in the water to finish off the winch part but that doesn't work too well in cold weather. Poor design on that part. Thanks for the info.
