  1. When they're frozen, figuring out how to get a line in the water... 5 lb bar bell weight on a rope - tossing it out may work if the ice isn't too thick. Of course, that would get you a few looks!
  2. Argh! I was so spoiled in Oregon!
  3. Can you use a float tube at Walker?
  4. Thanks Geoff! May hit one or the other Saturday if the weather isn't too bad. Going to the Suson Park Trout fishing and chili eating event that afternoon 5-9 PM
  5. Saw this and thought I'd share: Trout Fishing & Chili Feed, Saturday, December 7, 5 - 9 p.m.,Suson Park early for this popular event! Fish for rainbow trout and enjoy an all-you-can-eat chili feed. Anglers must have a state fishing license and an annual trout permit is required to possess trout. Advance registration is required by calling (314) 615-8472. Cost is $5/person.
  6. No idea where those are located. Directions? I'm at south county - Mehlville
  7. Geoff; Could you mention some of the lake names so that I can look them up? Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the clarification BBT!
  9. I'm close to Carp Lake so that will be a spot to check out. Was hoping to hit the Meramec near Bennett Springs but nursing an ear infection and don't need it getting worse. Hope to see you guys out there!
  10. Thanks much for the info!
  11. Thanks for the responses guys and nice pic Oneshot! The Niangua sounds very interesting. Haven't hit the Bennett Springs area yet; been focusing on Meramec Springs since I relocated here. Thinking of going out on Saturday but that depends on weather and if my ear infection clears up a bit. Eventually, float trips on my 9 foot pontoon once I hook up with someone so we can have a vehicle at the start and end...
  12. So, trout season is over but are the trout parks such as Meramec and Bennett Springs still open for trout? And do they continue to stock through the off season? Being a newbie to MO fishin', want to make sure I'm following the regs.
  13. never give up! We all have good and bad days... But at least we got out into some great weather and scenery! Your trip was a bad day for the bass!
  14. Sorry for your loss but you had some of the nicest weather we've had in a while!
  15. Yes, and it did!
  16. Went down to the springs last Saturday and did well. Caught all on flies which was my first since being here. The week before, I picked up a 17 incher on a spinner. Oh, that's my "signature look" when fishing is good!
  17. Back from the springs and did well. Picked up one 12 inch stocker on the fly rod and 6, 14 inchers on a spinner. Of those 6, 4 taken at the hole at the bridge in the trout park in 25 minutes at the sound of the horn on Sunday morning. Met another fly guy that turned out he lives near me in Mehlville. Good man - gave me some good tips and a few locations to try next time. Muggier than hell but had a good time. If you want to camp, site 1 is nearest to the merging of the trout park to the Meramec.
  18. Thanks Gatorjet! Nice idea about the orange flag.
  19. Thanks for your concern Wayne. That's something I will definately have to keep an eye on!
  20. Same price?! That stunk. Paid $16 for the campsite at meramec springs but the additional $8 charge for a reservation beefed it up to $24. At least I got a site next to the water....
  21. Since it's my first trip, I'll bring it and decide using it after searching the water. Used it a lot in Oregon and I can see that it's not necessary in most cases here. The waters here are much more gradual compared to the Oregon rivers which drop off drastically by several feet due to being carved from glaciers. Thanks to all for the recommendations! And again, if anyone is in the area, please stop by and say hello - my truck has a big decal on the back stating OFF for Oregon Fishing Forum.
  22. Called again and confirmed that if you are a camper, you can in the trophy section on the Meramec just not the springs section. Thank you for the warning Jim!
  23. Planning on taking both. Have a spool of each for an easy change over.
  24. Jim; I called the campground and asked and they said no problem. I'm sure I can't use it in the springs section due to the amount of bankers but in the trophy section on the Meramec, it's a possibility.
  25. Going to do a one nighter at Meramec Springs to see how bad it gets on the weekend. Going Saturday and taking my float tube. This is more of an exploration for me and test before heading down to Table Rock later in the year. If anyone is around, feel free to stop by and say hello! Question: What to use: Floating line or sinking line? I assume floating line because I expect it not to be too deep.
