  1. there are some golden spots down in that area. I landed a smallie there that took my 5x tippet for a run. My helios 6wt liked to break off anything less than 4x... I got rid of it after that. However, I thought it was a brown... (smallie is shown in my profile pic, just so none of you think this is some "fish story" )
  2. I usually swing size 8/10 beadhead/conehead woolys in brown/olive colors. I've been hearing that there are lots of browns holding from barclay to oldhams takeout and even farther. However, I have not yet floated that section this year. I'm ready to, for sure. Here in the next month, or so, I'm planning to come down and float it. I'm always looking for partners (someone who knows more than me ), if you're interested!
  3. I've been after a brown on that river for a while. I still haven't had the luxury of hooking up with one. Thanks for the motivation, Dennis.
  4. I have a friend that grew up there and knows some people around there and he has permission to put in around that area. He said that there used to be lots of rainbows and browns that held in that area, but that was years ago. Before he told me about it, I was unaware of that spring. It makes sense that there would be trout there (and other fish)... It is a spring after all... And in winter it would make sense that the trout would migrate around the river a bit... I could be totally wrong and this is just my opinion.
  5. How far up from lead mine, or how far down from oldhams is Blue Spring? How's the fishing around that area, or has anyone fished that area?
  6. Thanks for the info. I'm definitely going to try them on the fly.
  7. A couple of weeks ago, we were about a mile below the Bennet Springs access, just down from Sunset. We caught the hell out of trout, goggle-eye, and smallies (Well, my fishing partner caught the trout...I didn't do so well, trout fishing that day). I'd never had so much fun on the niangua. However, the day before (Saturday), the Aluminum-hatch was horrible. I could barely fire a cast off. We waded up from Barclay access to the first bend and fished it. It only produced one fish... However, I could have landed a floater or two
  8. That sounds said. I heard it was a great small bass fishery.
  9. I was thinking more about smallies, gar, etc. However, given the situation, I wouldn't be opposed to catching a canoe or two...
  10. That's too funny. Aside from grass and chain and the occasional muskie stream, I don't think we have any pike fishing in missouri, do we?
  11. I bet they can make a fortune off most rivers in south mo...
  12. If you find the greys reel on a flying pig rod (black blank), with an intermediate rio outbound short and a galloup sex dungeon (if it hasn't deteriorated by now), that's mine.
  13. I've been hearing rumors of pike in that section of the tailwater. Is this true or is it just someone talking up a big fat lie?
  14. I wonder how many rods are at the bottom of that river...
  15. I fished this two weeks ago, throwing large galloup patterns in yellow, olive, brown, and white and didn't land one brown. In fact, if you find a black, flying pig 8 weight with a greys cassette reel, loaded with a rio outbound short intermediate, that's mine... On the other hand, I hear that the better fishing is from blair, down... I have since tied my patterns smaller and they are the length of the palm of my hand. I hope I have better luck next time. If anyone catches this rod and reel, let me know, please. Thanks!
  16. Huh!? Walleye. I visited this place in the past, but have never actually fished this tailwater. I'm headed down soon. There's walleye year-round, in this tailwater? How far below the dam and focused where? I've been wanting to catch a walleye on the fly for a while now...
  17. hello all, i'm getting ready to float this river in kayaks. Any reccomendations in flies, lines (sink rates), tactics, for this river? Thanks, delopez
  18. I absolutely love the river. I like to take a trout spey/switch rod with me and fish from the banks when I can't wade. In fact, I'll be doing that this weekend. However, I haven't fished the river since last year. I'm ready.
  19. I'm headed there, this weekend. i'm hoping that I have the same results... I would like to avoid to aluminum hatch as much as possible.
  20. Hello, I've decided to join this forum, since I tend to take quite a few trips down south to fish. How is the brown trout fishing on the Nianqua right now? i'm headed down there, next weekend... float and fish on Saturday, fish on Saturday evening, and fish on Sunday morning/ early afternoon. Thanks!
