  1. That's exactly what i meant al something a little closer until the weather cools down. When I was at bsc Friday the water temp was 65 degrees, getting a bit warm to be putting that much stress on those fish I think.
  2. Well I appreciate the reply I guess I'll just have to keep driving.
  3. Thanks man, all I have seen of the meramec seems like you need a canoe or are there wadeable areas near saint louis as well?
  4. Since my favorite trout waters seem to be getting warmer, I was thinking about chasing some smallmouth on the fly. Most of the streams and rivers I read about online are a bit of a haul since I won't be going after trout. I am wondering if anyone knows of any decent smallmouth streams under an hour from saint louis. I am not asking for your favorite holes or sweet spot just a place I can wade and catch and release a few fish.
  5. Started the day out at Blue Springs creek. Hooked one decent twelve inch trout on a olive bugger but he spat the hook a few inches in front of my net. Super disappointing. Other than that saw no other trout in those waters lots of rv campers swimming up and down the creek though. So I headed to tan vat for the afternoon I fished from 3-6pm and caught three fish 10-13" range all on x-caddis. The wind got really strong and then rain began, the fish stopped rising so I headed home, not a bad day. Sorry no pictures with this report.
  6. Want down to cardiac yesterday. Started the day off fishing down to suicide swinging streamers. At about a half-hour into the day three J.O.'S in a motorboat came flying up the river creating a hell of a wake and leaving the water reaking of fuel for an hour or so. So I tried back up to cardiac nymphing with zero hits or strikes or even seeing a fish. I decided after eating lunch to head up to the piles and made my way that way. Right before dry fork I noticed a little run between a log and a undercut where fish were rising and tied on a simulator and caught a ten inch brown. After that more fish began rising downstream so I worked my way down and caught three more Browns and broke off two all on Adams, with the two bigger fish taking it near the end of the drift on the skate. As I was walking get back to the truck I ran across an armadillo. Turned into a nice day on the meramec. https://www.dropbox.com/sc/756m002ag82fk6o/7v-2NlvPoM https://www.dropbox.com/sc/hvrtof26b7mpkpi/IdOVcOkVQZ https://www.dropbox.com/sc/3psrl2l8ydbp0i4/-hh4K35WgY
  7. Nice fish I went down to tan vat saturday and hooked up with a few browns and a couple of rainbows as well. red midge and elk hair caddis is what worked for me couldn't get the SJW to take how did you rig it?
  8. Hey to let you guys know Feather Craft off of Manchester is having a decent sale. I picked up a Rio indicator line in 7wt for I think twenty bucks. Receipt doesn't have a break down so can't be sure might have been cheaper.
  9. I appreciate the info from both of you I'll have to give it a go sometime soon.
  10. Thank you I finally get what swinging means. I have read about it being a good tactic but never understood what was meant by it. Thanks for the info.
  11. So I am still pretty new to fly fishing I feel and want to learn more about streamers and how they are fished. I mainly fish dries and nymphs but want to figure out streamers. I have a few buggers and leeches and zonkers but have not caught more than two fish on all of them put together. This being the case I am positive it's the way I am fishing them over anything else. I want to know what the term swinging a Streamer means also when stripping streamers should I cast upstream or downstream? Towards the bank or middle of the current? Pretty much everything you guys can tell me on fishing these flies more effectively and efficiently. Also can I fish streamers on a floating line or is a sinking tip or sinking line the way to go? Any and all help is greatly appreciated as I fish by myself 9 times out of ten.
  12. Nope definitely not a shiner it looked a lot like a red belly dace minus the red belly part. I am sure I will have another one take a fly when it happens again I will just have to snap a picture.
  13. I was thinking a dace or some kind of chub. Should have taken a pic oh well
  14. Went down to blue springs creek today. I fished downstream of the N bridge. Only caught two fish both about five inches in length and i don't believe they were trout. Quite possibly a minnow of some sort? They had a green back silver pinkish sides with three horizontal black stripes. Any help identifying them would be cool. There were schools of them in all the pools almost. Also a really nice bwo hatch today in the area around 2:30pmish.
  15. Thanks for the greetings. I hope to check out some of the urban fishing spots around the area so i might run into one of you guys out there.
  16. Fished upstream for a mile or so from 7am to noon yesterday. I was nymphing under an indicator with no luck all morning. The water flow was good though and you could see small fish jumping and eating gnats. All in all a nice morning in the cardiac area.
  17. Hello my name is Ben. I currently reside in Florissant and have lived all over missouri. I mainly enjoy flinging for trout but will fish for just about anything when the opportunity arises.
