If I am going to spend 16-18k on a glorified jon boat I would like it to be a multi tasker. the Havoc river rat is presently #1 on my list because it’s designed for a jet drive. #2 is the Alweld mud invader. both have a true flat bottom, yes it will slide when turning at speed but they will ride shallower in the skinny trout water. The Alweld mud invader is designed for a surface drive but if the transom is standard size then a jet drive will work fine. The Alweld also has tons on storage compartments which are useful but I wonder about the added weight... either way it’s gonna cost 16-18k and I am being greedy and want it all, trout, ducks, and everything in between. 🙂

Thinking about getting a new boat, would like a boat I can trout fish in the summer and ducks in the winter. I do not want a surface drive, but a jet drive would be nice (maybe get a prob motor for ducks). I was looking at the Havoc river rat, anyone have experience with this boat in the white/little red? pros/cons, alternate ideas? thx

Thank you, I wish I had more time to use it.

Alright guys, I know I have been asking a lot of questions on here. I am just trying to make informed decisions before I purchase something. I work hard for my money and don't want to waste it buying dysfunctional products. Thank you to all who have helped thus far!!! What type/size anchor does it take to solidly anchor a supreme boat in all types of current in the Little Red. -

Ok guys, I went motor shopping today. I have ruled out a jet, but leaning toward yamaha because I can have it worked on (if needed) within 5 miles of my house. Now my big question is: 20 or 25 hp? Price not an issue because they are only $200 apart. My big question is the 20hp weighs 110 lbs, the 25 hp weighs 168 lbs. Is the extra 5 hp worth the extra 60 lbs? I am a big guy and 90% of the time I will be with my 11 year old (occasionally other adults) I won't usually be carrying lots of gear (poles, tackle etc). -

I couldn't find any new info on the Johnson 25/20 in the quick search I just did. Do you have an idea of the approx cost? The Evinrude site did say that a 25hp prop weighed 160lbs, a 20hp Honda/yamaha weighs in neighborhood of 105lbs. Do you think the increased weight is worth it? I like the idea of being able to handle skinny water as that is where I am use to fishing, but everyone seems to lean toward props to fish my area. As for the diff types of fishing to learn, I want a general knowledge of everything artificial. We catch/release and this is strictly for fun. At this point I do not fly fish but it's on the agenda (my 11 Year old is dying to learn to fly fish). -

No I am never in a hurry, nice and slow is the way to go. I work a fast pace high stress job, when I am not there I enjoy the opposite. The only reason I think a jet would be useful to me is in low water situations that I am accustomed to fishing now. I considered booking a guide for a day to take me out and I can learn his boat handling skills and some "high water" fishing techniques, since As a wade fisher I have always stayed away when the water is up. -

Is the increased cost really worth it when it comes to the jet motor? I see more people without them, than with them, and them seem to get along just fine. The male testosterone side says go buy a 40/30 jet and be done with it. The reality based side says I would get the job done with a reg prop motor. $4000 vs $6000 is big difference. 1. When it comes to prop motors in the Little Red is a 20hp my best choice or should I look at bigger or smaller? 2. What motor would everyone get if money was not a factor? -

Could you all tell me what motors you run on your rigs, include the pros and cons that you have found out by using them. As I said, I was leaning toward a buying a 20hp but there is no sound logic behind that so I am open to about anything, and would rather be educated by you all now then to figure out 6 mo from now that I got the wrong gear. As I said 90% of my time will be in the Little Red. -

Yes, I have 3 of the metalogic chairs. They seem quite nice. I lost the drivers seat bringing it home so I need to purchase a new seat and seat base. The boat is wired for a trolling motor but never had one put on, that will be another future purchase. I think I am going to go to Lowes today and buy some chain and rope. You guys are inspiring me! -

They are new 2013 stock at Sunrise Marine in Searcy, they said that they mounted motors on them and then sold the motors off the boats. Now they are asking 14.5k for a new boat with 4 big 1/2" holes. I paid 5k for a 2 yr old boat but it had two 1/4" holes. (Someone told me to fix them with dowel rod and fiberglass resin.) Now I got to figure out what motor to get and get her all rigged up. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! -

Thank you, Cartney and Ham You are awesome!! It's the little things from those of you with more experience that I am looking for. PS I really want a jet but the 6k price is hard to swallow, and worse on my bank account. Anyone else have some useful tips?
