  1. It's safely wade able below all access except the one at the very end of the dam. Still to deep to cross to the gravel bar there. The boat ramp, middle access and the handicap ramp at parkers all have more than enough wading areas than you can get into in a day. They've been blowing the horn early btw
  2. I am from fayetteville and we have a unforeseen forecast of 250,000+ bikers coming our way next week. What's that got to do with fishing? As a restaraunt our business is so bad during the first 3 years of that week we said phooey, and closed up shop. That being said I'm heading over to Quitman to my dads land with a small pond. Memory serving correctly its a bout 30 minutes from cow shoals access on the little red It has been years since I've been there, so searching for any advice on fly fishing with waders. I also have a kayak. Any access points or info that might put me closer to the fish would be much appreciated! Looking at the water it seems like the little red is my best option over bull shoals and norfork. I don't mind at all standing to be corrected. I'll look around on Google earth, but I trust people over computers any day. Thanks in advance
  3. spent the morning wading gravel bars upstream from parkers. The zebra midge was killing where there was current. Once the current died, moved up to the dam site and caught fish until they blew the horn. Had to fish 3-3.5 ft under an indicator. The water was a lot deeper than it looked. I'd like to take credit for the success, but it all goes to Amery. Helluva guy, and a helluva guide as well. I've literally caught 2 fish in 3 yrs on that river, skunked everytime I went. Didn't have a 20+fish day like I hear about, but a good solid 11 nice fish. To me that's what this forums about. Helping people out and enjoying the rivers and lakes of NWA. Thanks again man!
  4. Wildcat shoals in flippin has good rates, Jon boats and several options of lodging and the owners are very hands on and nice. Not to mention its in some pretty prime trout waters
  5. No current. The smallest of woolys I could find. And id watch them check it out, olive they'd aggresively hit, black most of them were sketchy with, and brown they wouldnt even follow. For what it's worth. I ran out of small boogers, and switched to a larger size and even with the bigger splash they didn't spook.
  6. went out at sunrise Wednesday morning. Very cool and foggy. I finally landed some fish, and saw and missed a lot more. Some of the old haunts are above water now. Pretty sure you can wade to them from the dam access, but the furthest access in the dam site was non negotionable. Anyways the past few trips I've had the river looks more like a river and less like a lake. Good looking healthy fish that I caught. Nothing too large but a lot of fun on the fly rod. Almost makes up for hundreds of skunkings those tailwaters have given me... Ready for fall and winter when the crowds disappear
  7. I've never been that far down, but I love the top water action from my kayak. I throw a spider or hopper, but as said earlier I've seen the buzz bait get a lot of action, and less hook ups with small fish. No matter what you use, you'll have a great time on the buffalo
  8. Welcome to this forum. Great people, stories, etc....but whatever you do, don't post about where you fished. It really hacks people off for some reason
  9. Maybe consideration of the people who bust their tails running shuttles at kings river outfitters, lost valley canoe, spider creek, and every other small business on rivers have mouths to feed.
  10. Kings river outfitters. $25. They drive your truck back to a private property parking lot/campground so you can take your time
  11. Yikes. Don't even know what month it is. Super nice float and you pretty much have the river to yourself on the weekdays I've been
  12. Deciding to call the NWS forecast, I Floated rock house to trigger gap Tuesday morning. Gorgeous cool morning and only saw 4 other people. Had to drag a couple times but not worth complaining about. Also a couple of trees that were down you had to maneuver around. Great fishing, almost every hole below the rapid was good for 3-4 small smallmouth and good sized Ozark bass. First time getting on them. The shuttle service was nice and the level was ok. One of my new favorite floats. Couldn't keep the mini bream off my fly so wound up using 4"small plastics. Flukes seemed to work best
  13. Phylis is great. I love wildcat shoals. We were there a few weeks ago and just below their dock we were catching more than we could unhook! Very helpful people and the single cabin rv are very nice for a trout camp
  14. Aww snap that's what I've been doing wrong
  15. Anyone been to bob kidd know whether a kayak is safe out there? Drop rigging for crappie is my preferred tactic. Elmdale does well, but the one time I went out to bob Kidd I told myself I need to work it more. Thanks for any help
  16. What's the river looking like this week?
  17. Yet another reason why OAF is a great place to be. Good people with good advice and standards. Thanks JerryRapp
  18. Water water everywhere. Spent my day roaming around looking at all the water. Hooked a small brown trout at Parker bottoms but the water was a rising fast. Pretty cool to see that happen. Left there and went to check out withrow springs and war eagle creek. HA! Spent the rest of my day at the movie theatre nonetheless there was a lady at war eagle brodge taking pictures, she showed me pics from her house on the Kings. Hoping everyone stays safe out there. You don't realize the power of water until you see it first hand like that. Got pics but don't know how to post em
  19. The creek, looks like around withrow springs or off of 412. This rains really dumping on my parade so idk where to do now. Knew it was gonna rain but it rained a lot in Fayetteville tonight. Maybe just go look around and hang a hammock on the highest tree I can find. I'll take fly, spinning rod and yak wherever I may roam in case it looks fishy. Keep Ya posted
  20. I mean no harm, nor do I mean to keep your fish
  21. So I've got very little time each week to be away from the fluorescent lights of the kitchen, tommorow being one of those days.... Would I be better off going to the tailwaters or exploring war eagle? I'm really in it for the getting away aspect. I mean, catching fish would be a plus, also I've never caught a smallmouth and they look pretty bad@&$. Wanna stay safe and enjoy is my main priority
  22. Whenever you're having a bad day, stop and take a second to realize how blessed you are, and how precious life is. Prayers go up for this family
  23. Is the beaver dam shuttle running from the dam to spider creek?
  24. Got back today from wildcat. Phyllis is such a nice lady and the fishing was spectacular! Not much size to the fish but there were three in our boat and caught around 50 gorgeous fish. This was my first fly trip that I would call a "success" they were eating tan elkhair caddis in the morning beneath a VERY thick fog and when the generators started flowing the San juan was deadly. To be perfectly clear I get skunked more times than not, hoping to just learn a thing or two each time I go. This trip was a blast and left feeling much less defeated than when I fish below beaver. Seems like everyone on this forum should be thanked for their input!
  25. We are staying at wildcat shoals, and the rental comes with a Jon boat and motor so I shouldn't be doing much wading . Haven't fished there since I was a kid and if it's half as beautiful as I recall I'm in for a treat. Weather looks perfect. Thank you again for all the advice
