  1. not over sold, mike ruick at bennett got the 1st jr I made.
  2. I changed out photos of my latest change. I cut the slots for the thread bobbins at an angle so that when you pick any of the units up, they won’t fall out. As a backup plan, I also ordered some badass magnets that I epoxied to the bottom of the stone, so when the thread bobbins are positioned in their slots, the magnets are also holding them in place. As you can also see in both of these photos, I moved the threads from the top,to a secure location just beneath the 2nd level, so again when you grab the unit by the handle, your spare threads ain’t going no where. I’ve also epoxied the same magnets underneath - where your vise clamps so that your scissors, whip finisher and whatever else you need is right at your finger tips. This unit is made of quartz, which is a man made product. I personally like granite because the looks are more appealing and I fabricate both for a living and the smell of quartz is god awful, but when your tying flies, who gives 2 shits about how good your base looks right? Thus, the quartz is 25% lighter and a hell of a lot more durable. (its more expensive than granite, but for those last 2 factors…its a wash in the end). Corky 69 - old timer - thanks for calling me out on this. i spent a dung ton of time trying to figure out a way to not bullshit anyone regarding its portability, I’ve been fishing with it every weekend, using all three of the models that i’ve posted pics of. by moving the spare threads where they are shown, I’m all done. all the threads can 100% stay and scissors, and whatever tools you want to leave on….the magnets hold like hell. , Materials - dubbing, feathers etc, I planned on throwing in my box anyways. I personally prefer a base thats got weight to it. Ive used pieces of stone that weighed under 10lbs and it was very unstable. flysmallie I appreciate the sentiment - $125.00 for the jr 13lbs. (which by the way the spare threads will be moved to the same location as the unit shown above) $250.00 for the sr. currently 22lbs, Im going to try to shave a few more lbs tomorrow, I’ll be at bennett on saturday if anyone want to check any of them out, zone 2 between stream & hatchery below the stone bridge.
  3. I sold one the 13 lb jr to a 72 year old man, just off of a triple by pass surgery. if 13 lbs is to heavy, apologies about your health.
  4. howdy folks, my name is mike nichols from kansas city. been fly fishing for 20 years or better and tying my own flies for at least 10 years. I was going to wait til my web site was up, but after this past labor day weekend I heard enough folks complaining about having a portable fly tying base, so they could tie flies at the stream.....that I better go ahead to put it out there. I own a granite fabrication company, and have also wanted a portable fly tyiung base. The requirements i had for designing this base, It had to be heavy enough to be stable, but light enough that my chiropractor wouldn't get any more of my hard earned money. another very important element - I wanted all my threads and tools to remain on the base while in transport(unless traveling by air). I made the 1st one for myself with no intent to sell, Since then - because of the response- I have applied for all copyrights and patents. I currently have 2 models for sale. the smallest unit weighs 13 lbs and the larger unit weights 24 lbs. both units are 100% portable with several innovations that make these units so user friendly, even i, humbly had to smile. All of your tools are right at your fingertips. There are 6-8 storage slots for thread bobbins and 6-8 additional storage spaces for additional threads that never have to be removed, unless of course youre tying up. Each unit comes standard with a tablet/smart phone cradle, so you can actually watch a youtube video on how to tie up the fly that youre tying up. If anyone has any questions or wants pictures of either model, please let me know either reach me thru this forum or at epicgranite@gmail.com. I will have an online store up soon, but after hearing so many folks talk about the same issue...... and having a solution to the problem.
