8 oz cream cheese
2 pie crusts (the premade ones in the refrigerated section)
bacon grease from about 6 slices of bacon
food coloring
I was searching for a good non-floating dough bait and couldn't find one I was satisfied with so I came up with this. It's a combination of a couple of different recipes I found on the internet. I'm going to Meramec Springs tomorrow and will report back if it's successful.
Unwrap both crusts and mix in bowl with cream cheese. I started with one crust and half of the cream cheese, adding to the consistency I liked as I went. I ended up using all the ingredients save for a small amount of crust.
Once you mix the crust and cheese together, add the bacon grease and knead again with your hands. This is a messy job. If you have any pets, they'll be glad to clean your fingers
Next, add the food coloring and if the consistency is too sticky, add more dough. I used a large salad tossing fork to mix the mess into a nice salmon colored concoction until it was dough like enough to work with my hands. Refrigerate and you'll have a nice big ball of bait. I separated it into four ziplocs. One for myself, one for the wife and I'll likely put two in the freezer for future use.
I plan to suspend this dough bait on a jighead hook about 3 ft from a bobber using light line (4lb or nylon monofilament thread).
Good luck!
