Whats the furthest up stream from rush that smallmouth can be caught for a good time this time of year? Early wanting to do rush to the white but we are limited on time so looking to put a buddy on some fish while sticking to our time frame.
Haha yeah guess well have to see what Harvey gives us in way of water. Lol thanks so much for the float and I'll def give a report. We should be filming it so may link to the video too.
Thanks for the info I haven't floated the lowest stretches in years but we used to go quite a bit. This will be the first float I've done on the Buffalo with the intent of fishing. I've been watching the river levels and it seems like stretches that usually aren't floatable have gotten more water this year and Rush looks to be about where I remember it when we floated just to float.
If the flows are decent is Rush to long to try to float and fish? We were looking at covering a ton of water the first day and then actually fishing the second and third. Would we skip too much good fishing water if we did that?
So anyone have any suggestions for hitting the Buffalo up for smallmouth in September? We are looking to go two weeks after Labor Day and have three days to kill. Also any suggestions or know anyone that would shuttle our truck for us?
Thanks guys we weren't expecting a high numbers trip but just wanting to explore and practice fishing from their kayaks without it feeling like we would be better off fishing in a empty ditch. It's been a long time but I've floated the river from steel creek to the white river but as I said fishing wasn't really a concern or hobby of mine. I did a 2 month internship with the visitor center at Ponca when I was in college so I had plenty of down time to float the upper river.
My dad, brother, and I are planning on floating/fishing the Buffalo mid to late March. I've floated it several times but never with the intent to do any angling and my dad and brother are relatively new to both aspects of floating and kayak angling. With that in mind what would be the best float for a 2-3 day trip that would yield a decent float and allow for two beginners to catch a few safely?
