  1. A friend of mine recently reminded me of a TV show we saw where they were on Beaver Lake at night in either Jan/Feb fishing for striper. They where throwing rouges and large crank baits and where catching some nice fish. Has anyone else heard of this, and if so what are some of the other techniques that go along with this. What part of the lake, what type of structure, etc. I do remember that they where just casting out the rouges and reeling them in very slow and steady. Any help would be great, thanks
  2. Thanks for the information, do they have a number you can call to see what they are generating, and what is a fishable level.
  3. Is this from a boat or from the shore. I have never been there, but it sounds like a great time.
  4. As I started fishing for Striper/hybirds about 5-6 years ago and being a fairly consistant catch and release guy I thought I would carry this over to this new fish. I was told by some locals at the time that the mortality rate for a released striper was very high and that I should keep all the striper I catch. Thankfully just learning I did not catch that many Striper that year. Since then I try to release all of the Striper that I catch if possible. I seem to have good luck with this, but I have been told that a portion of these fish do not survive. I recently read an article about this and thought it might make an interesting discussion. http://www.arkansasstripers.com/catch_and_...ls_stripers.htm
  5. Thanks for the information. That tail-water fishing has really got me interested, 8-10# fish in current sounds like a great time.
  6. Here is the fly that worked the best for me last year. Lets try a little bigger
  7. No it is not me I live is Cassville, MO. I fish beaver lake from a boat in the spring time, and the local tailwaters for trout. I have also fished for whites at night, but was wondering if there was any technique for fishing Beaver at night. I have heard of some people using an underwater light to attract bait fish off of deep channel swings at night, but these have mostly been live bait fishermen. Looking at some of your other posts I can tell you are a lot more experienced than I am in this area and appreciate your input.
  8. Working a full time job and having two kids, night fishing is usally a little easier on my marriage. Butts you mentioned night fishing and I am guessing you are doing this in rivers/tailwaters. Have you ever night fished in a lake for striper/hybrids? Thanks
  9. Yea mostly clousers, decivers, salt water flies. I will try to get some pictures posted some time. Go to Blue Fly cafe they have a good selection of salt water type flies.
  10. In response to the question about gear (type of rod, line, etc). This is what I think you will need, and if any one has any other opinions please put them in. A fast 8 weight rod (at least) with a large arbor reel, a ton of backing, and plently of juice in the trolling motor. For line I just used straight 14# maxximum, or stren easy cast. The couple of small fish I caught ( 8#s or so) pulled me all over the lake, took me to my backing 2-3 times, and then went straight to the bottom in 45 ft. of water. This is salt-water quality fishing close to home. I am not sure how I am going to get a big one in if I hook up, but I am sure going to have fun trying. PS Tape all of your clets, or anything in the boat that line can snag on. I am going to try some type of line bucket/pail this year. With stripping you tend to have a bunch of line at your feet and if one hits short not only are you going to have burnt fingers, but old Murphy tends to have the line snag on anything and everything.
  11. This will be my sixth year fishing striper, and there are some areas known for surface action. Deep water/ channel swings that are close to pea gravel points/banks is one of the areas that I look for. The rest of it is being able to pattern the fish (fish more than one - two days a week), and plain old dumb luck.
  12. I know sparky and we are going to try to figure it out and may try to do some of the early spring walleye you talked about.
  13. That fish was caught on a bait caster on a super zara spook. I caught some smaller ones on my fly rod, but nothing of this size. This is still not even close to being considered big on Beaver lake. I will post some pictures of some flies that I use and would appreciate any one else giving some input. I know that one of the guys at Bass Pro Fly shop goes every year and does some fly fishing at Beaver Lake. He helped me pick out the flies I used last year.
  14. This is what I would like to catch on a fly rod
  15. I plan on doing some pretty serious fly fishing this year on beaver for some striper. Last year I landed 3 8#s being the largest it was a gas. I had one over 10# on, but lost it. When I am out there I really do not see any one else fly fishing, but I know some people have to be doing this. I usally fish inApril, May, June using saltwater flies, deceivers, clousers, etc. Tried top-water plugs, but they where hard to cast. Any one else doing this with different techniques and any one doing it at night. Thanks
  16. I fish taney all the time, but I do live closer to Beaver and would like to fish beaver a little more. Can any one give me any pointers on fishing Beaver at night and some pointers to increase the qualilty of fish that I catch. Thanks for the help
