[How do you accurately measure DEPTH of a rowboat?]

Really,  because I measured first by myself.   Then later,  with help and my measurement never went over 22 inches at the very highest outside edges.   The majority of the boat was 19.  Can you explain?

[How do you accurately measure DEPTH of a rowboat?]

I was gifted either a 1949 or a 1954 Aero Craft rowboat.  The only discernable variation I have discovered is the depth.   A 1954 has a depth of 22.25 inches while a 1949 has a depth of 19 inches. I can get close to both depths on various parts of the boat so my question is,  exactly where on the boat do you measure?
