Well I got some new waders and went to the river in between Bennet and Barclay and had a double digit smallmouth day. Not a lot of size biggest being a little over 16. River seemed to be down since Thursday but still pretty muddy. And the new waders are awesome. Have one more week until I have to go back to reality (college)
I know that the big N is still up and flowing pretty good, it is coming down but still running pretty high. I was in the Barclay area on Thursday and I don’t think it would have been safe to be on. I’m pretty bummed about the river still being up with how nice it is going to be. Anyone seen it since Thursday?
Good it was meant to be! Lol I graduated from Camdenton and now and go to a college in Illinois playing football So my fishing time is very limited now to winter break and summer
That’s a classic, can’t beat memories like those.. I consider myself unlucky, love fishing, being outdoors, Rivers/creeks, but I CANNOT get over my fear of snakes and it kills me lol
I was afraid of that... I think I’m getting better. I have people put rubber snakes around my house hoping to help my phobia but everytime i nearly step on one of the rubber ones in the drive way I scream like I have seen a ghost lmao
How’s everyone doing? No one has posted in a while did you all stop fishing? Lol I have been doing very well fishing The Niangua this month. It might be cause I don’t have the thought of snakes harassing me like I do in the summer lmao. Is anyone else scared shitless of the snakes in the summer or is it just me acting like a little girl
Plan on floating from hulls ford down to hazel green this Saturday targeting sallies. I am usually a niangua guy I have never even had a line in the gasconade what should I expect?
I try to avoid that bridge at all times, gravel bars all around it are like beaches to the methheads. Use to be real bad down there. Camden County Sherrifs keep a close eye on it now and have gotten that place cleaned up. Still I wouldn’t be around there on a Friday night or Saturday. Some of those folk around there are backwards.
Lower Niangua fishing is underated in my opinion. I may be biased because I learned to fish on this stretch but the few smallmouth that are below the dam are BRUTES! But I do love that most people stay up upper Niangua. Fishing pressure is very low on the lower. I highly recommend anyone reading this to take a fall float on the lower. I’d bring a scale too. Do be advised that some landowners are to not use to human interaction.
Riffles below the spillway is excellent at certain times of the year!! If you can figure out the times it’s hot we are talking a fish every few casts while standing in one spot on the bank!! Whites, smallmouth, largemouth, walleye, Crappie, catfish. I’d also say it’s probably the most snake dense area in Camden County. Lol
Use to be real secretive about lake Niangua but I think today was my last day fishing it. Have watched the fishing in decline every year. Pretty much completely filled in with silt. Not worth the work of getting a boat in there just to catch a few fish that all look deformed. May give it one more chance during a month that I still have a little bit of confidence in it for. You guys probably already know. Anyways just thought I’d speak my mind on it and wondered if anyone else felt the same way about it.
So who all uses or has used solid white soft plastics on the Niangua? Talking to a guy who said they work really well in July-August? Wish it wasn’t pouring today or I’d go try them out
