  1. Yeah, I have brushpiles there. For some reason the goggle-eye were not there this April and May. We get fished on the way in and way out, during tournaments by multiple boats. Not a complaint about that. I sleep outside, with our cats, in our screen room, and we get that 6:00 AM wake-up.
  2. The cumulative affect, and amount of force, of wave action on docks, is almost unbelievable. I would not expect anyone who has not maintained a dock(s) for 20+ years to understand that. Not on Table Rock, but on other waterways, erosion is a big deal, too. All one can do is to try to inform.
  3. Again, this discussion is aimed at reducing discourteous boat operation, not nit-picking the legalities. "I swamped your boat or damaged your dock, but you can't prove it", is not what this is about. Although someone being a jerk with their boat is subjective, it is normally pretty obvious.
  4. Like you say, Phil, you're in a situation where you can't get away from wakes, and those creating the wakes are just boating down the river-lake. That's different than small coves off the beaten track of the main channel of Table Rock, coves where docks are placed exactly for that reason, and boat operators who know better, but intentionally operate like they know they shouldn't, then flip you off. Those few who behave that way give the tournament crowd a bad reputation.
  5. Our cove has that issue, too, since there are a few little resorts nearby. Each round of that roundy-round amplifies the size and frequency of the wakes, almost as bad as when a few hundred boats go by at the same time after the Kimberling City fireworks. Frankly, I don't expect vacationers, who don't take their boat out very often, to understand what they are doing, but I do expect tournament boaters to know better, since they get more use and enjoyment out of everyone's lakes than anyone. Now, wanna talk about wake boats? 😷
  6. One person being a jerk is not a good reason for another guy being a jerk, but it does encourage it. Again, this has nothing to do with buoys.
  7. Yes, there are two sides to this: Courteous and respectful, and the other side. The last few years, discourteous and disrespectful has found a place; everyone knows why. That doesn't make it right.
  8. The fact that some posts here indicate there may be two sides to this, that being disrespectful and breaking the law is something you can blame on the person pointing out the issue, just shows that it is an issue. 😷
  9. Forget about the buoys; a boat operator is responsible for their wake anywhere/everywhere. It's a question of courtesy and respect. Not that it matters to some, but it is also against the law in Missouri. https://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/MSHPWeb/Publications/Brochures/documents/SHP-272.pdf Remember to be courteous. If you were in a small boat attempting to navigate your boat wake, or you owned a dock that has to survive your boat wake, would you be operating in the same manner? Treat other boaters and property owners as you would want to be treated. Causing harm to another person or their property with an excessive boat wake may subject you to enforcement action or civil liability Just like I do not label every boater coming into our cove a jerk, because most of them are not, you should not label every dock owner trying to protect what is theirs, and keep the lake civil, a crabby old man. The fact that some posts here indicate there may be two sides to this, that being disrespectful and breaking the law is something you can blame on the person pointing out the issue, just shows that it is an issue.
  10. I have never said I/we own the lake, or object to those who fish our dock, including my brushpiles. I only call them mine because I'm the one who took down some cedar trees, added concrete blocks, and put them out there. The goggle-eye will be on them any day now. Why I get them instead of crappie is beyond me. I have pleasant conversations with most of the people who troll by, flipping into our slips, or even between the dock and the bank, trying to lure a big one off a nest. Most people coming into the cove come off plane in plenty of time to settle down before the first dock and no wake buoy. There are not many jerks, but they seem to get around a lot. I would never go to where they live and do something to PO them, like they do when they get on the lake. Like I said two years ago in this thread, being hateful and rude seems to have come into fashion in recent years, but hopefully that's changing. As a note, it's obvious the "numbers" on boats are so small so you can't read them from a distance.
  11. BIG MAN . . . . I was working in the yard and heard a bass boat come in hot. I watched it put a full wake on all five docks on our bank as he went to the back of the cove. So, I went down and stood on our swimdeck. As he was heading out, I motioned him over, and he declined. I yelled, "Show a little courtesy; you put full wakes on all five of these docks." You know he did. One posterior reflects badly on everyone.
  12. Oh, thanks. Measure is new to me. I'll go look. . . . . . . . I did it using 14 straight shots, and got 19.43 miles. That's a ways to push a dock! I wonder what speed you do that at?
  13. What do the circles represent? I used the index on the Corps' dock zoning map, and guessed around 16 miles. I'm planning on moving a dock from just north of 14 to just east of 8. Need to figure out how many 6-packs we'll need! Not quite Cape Fair Bridge to Mill Creek, but close.
  14. Anyone? I need to move a dock that distance, and need to know how far it is. Thanks
  15. How about Point 8 to Point 14?
  16. What could go wrong giving the Corps unlimited, unchecked power over private property?
  17. Beware of this: Docks are approved for the mooring of the owner’s vessel and the storage of gear essential to the 15 vessel’s operation. No other equipment or personal property is allowed to be stored on the dock. It is written by the Federal Government, giving the Federal Government vague, unlimited power over private property. It is apposed to how docks have always been used.
