Truman Tailrace
Duckman replied to Jenny @ The Station's topic in Truman Tailwater/Upper Osage River
We fished from the dam to 66MM. Mainly drifted shad on rod & reel. The bite was slow but you could get'em in around 15 feet of water. Also threw out 15 noodles to help the bite. Ended up getting 16 nice white cats. All in all not a bad couple a days but could've been better. See ya all in same place same time next weekend. -
Hoover25, I'm heading down to the Pensacola area next month and have been chatting with some guys on http://www.fishpensacolabeachpier.com/prices.htm. I was just wanting to get some more in detail information of how you caught your fish off the pier? I've had so many different ways told to me that I don't know which way to go?? Did you just cast out or did you have somebody with a kayak take your bait out for you? What line did you use up to your leader and what size leader did you use? From what they tell me they are doing real well on black tips, bulls, and mako sharks right now. Along with pomps, cobia, sheepies, and spanish macks. I'm taking my own gear along both for big fish and the smaller fish. They are doing a lot of jigging Got-Cha lures down there now. I'm wanting to get into some live bait as well as fresh cut bait action at night like you did. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Coming from a Kansas boy here, I haven't a clue what I'm about to get into! Thanks

Once again (think I'm talkin to myself but......) buddies and I snagged Schell and totally slaughtered'em. Ended up banking 16 bills with the largest one hitting the 70 lb mark with all the rest in between 40 and 65 lbs. Its heating up in this area and the fish are really starting to move. Lots of fish being pulled in everyday. You all don't know what you are missing if you are a snagger!!! I'm in it this year for a 100 lb plus hog! I know she's on her way just for me, then I'll take a picture of her and send her back upstream! Gotta love them sows!!!!
-
What's going on J, was you fishing around the cable or down along the rocks? I was getting ready for my second outting this year down at Beaver and was trying to get a game plan as to where I wanted to start. I mainly chase the hybrids and stripers with arificials.

Here ya are Phil, http://www.oldoarhouseinn.com/ Take 65 hwy out of Warsaw, north to BB, then take a right (east), go about 9 miles and start looking for the signs it will guide ya right in!

Snaggin' tourney out of the Oar House this Saturday 4/1/06. Come on out and give it a shot. They usually pay 4 places. They go by big fish not total weight. So catch ya a big'n and you might be takin' home three or four Ben Franklins!! I'll be in a 18' Lund Pro V SE (silver, red, and black) with a 150 Evinrude. Give me a shout if any of ya make it.

I snagged Schell Osage and Montagaw Springs this weekend. Started @ Schell and snagged all Friday night with never a hit one. Got up Saturday mornin' (or should I say I rolled out of the bed of my pickup) and drove to Roscoe. If there was one boat there was over 300 pickups with boat trailers launched out of Roscoe! So we said heck with this and drove over the Roscoe bridge and back west to Montagaw Springs. Snagged from the bank from noon till around 6:00 pm and watched all the idiots in the boats. They have no repsect for bank fisherman. They were so darn stupid they would actually troll right in front of myself and about a dozen other locals fishing from the bank (right by the old swinging bridge area). But needless to say we say over 200 spoonbill tied up to the boats and we landed three from the bank. It was tought trying to cast with all the boats and traffic in this area so hopefully in a week or so the traffic will clear out and we can get down to some serious rippin!!

Looks like a mess of a web site, but copy this link it will take you to the map of Schell Osage. The river we fish on is at the top of the map. Park anywhere along the road where it is close to the river and you'll see people snaggin'. http://www.visitnevadamo.com/maps_display....Agri_Tourism=++

Yeah we fish from the bank mostly. It's a good time. Usually a ton of people on the bank with ya and you just take turns snaggin' in a hole. You can't last long casting, jerking, and reeling! It'll wear your arse slick in no time. But, you get done with a few dozen cast, take a break, suck down a cold'en and let somebody else in your hole and the cycle continues until it is your turn again. Taberville area has miles and miles of shoreline to snag or they also have a boat ramp you can launch at if you have a boat.

Well Hoov, how'd ya fair last weekend? I'll be going again this Friday. Got a buddy snagging right now on the Osage Arm, should have a report from him later tonight.
-
I'd recommend the Osage arm near Oceola. I've done really well in this area every year. Matter of fact we've already caught a bunch of nice'ens this year. Hooked one nearing the 80 lb mark last week. Limited out in less than 40 cast from the shore in this area.

The daily limit is 2. The length limit is 34" from center of the eye to the fork of the tail. There are a few places in MO that you can keep 24" but everywhere I snag like LOZ and its tributaries, Truman and its tributaries the lenght limit is 34". And once you catch 2 fish in a day whether or not you keep them or release them you are supposed to quit snagging. I'm not sure how hard they enforce that rule but that is what the reg's say. To give you an idea of how they taste I would compare the texture of the meat like chicken. I'm not talking flavor I'm talking the texture such as the firmness of the meat. When you clean them up they have a whole chit load of red meat on the outter fillet and the inside is loaded with fat. You want to make sure you get all that cut off. You get'em cleaned up right and you are looking at some pretty decent table fair. I would not rank them as good tasting as a nice 5 to 10 pound white cat but I would rank them pretty similar to an ole flat head with the exception of the firmness of the meat. A lot of people can't get their taste buds to get acquired for that firm feeling of fish in their mouth. Go out get yerself one, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Well boys if you want to get a big ole' sow you better get down there! Buddy and myself went down yesterday. Got there around 6:15 p.m. After about 15 rips my buddy hooked a 50 pounder. So we drank a "First Bill of the Season Brew", took a shot of "Lord Calvert". I picked up my rig and started ripping. I ripped about 30 to 40 times and I hit one. The ole sow ripped down river about 75 yards then turned and headed up river. After about 25 minutes of battling the sow I finally got her to the bank to see what I had. One of the local ladies came with a gaff and helped out (my buddy and me usually just practice catch and release on Bills, but the locals there last night wanted to get their freezers stocked so we were giving our fish to them). Well after we rounded up three other locals they drug the ole sow up the muddy arsed bank and layed her there on the bank and started celebrating. She prolly go round 75 to 80 pounds! So then we had to do our "Second Bill of the Season Brews", take two shots of "Lord Calvert", drink another brew just to calm the nerves, and take one more shot of "Lord Calvert" to get my leg to quit shakin' cause the big girl darn near tried to pull me in the drink. Well we ended up ripping another hour or so baggin our limit with two more fish that were both right in the 45 to 50 pound range. We were throwing 3 and 4 oz weights because the river is pretty low now. We stoped in Dane's in Taberville before we went to the river and they already had a pile of pictures of Bills from the day and most of the fish were all over the 70 pound mark. So I'll tell you all one thing the sows are already running so get your chit out and start ripping! Oh and by the way one ole boy in a boat ripped up a 93 pounder just down from Taberville bridge!! Hope to see ya there, cause you can be darn sure I'll be there! Good rippin' to ya all!!!!

We got any snaggers out there? If so let's keep this post up to par on the bills and mile markers. Personally I do 90% of my snaggin' from 63 to 82 MM. I'll keep you all informed up river but we need some help down around 40 and 50 MM because I know they usually start hittin' em' down there before we do. But some years are different and we'll be into the sows before I hear of anything around 50MM. Any snaggin' tourneys scheduled yet that you've heard of? Oar house is one of my favs. Usually around the first part of April.

Two days and counting! Anyone heading down on Wednesday? I'll be down there Wednesday clear towards the back of Shell where the river makes the big horse shoe. Would like to snag with some others on this site. Come on down and give it a shot. Should be decent with the big rains we've got this past weekend. Might even be a few sows mixed in with those little 45 to 50 lbs males!!
-
So how's the ole Neosho looking after this weekends rains? Would like to plan a snaggin' venture down towards Miami dam this season. Anyone got anything to share for this part of the river? I'll be snaggin' Wednesday near Taberville, Mo. Hope these rains get them sows rollin'!!
-
Huh, you two think you guys are going to catch a fish??? I bet between both of you, you might catch 1!! LOL!! I'm ready to fish with you two ole' boys this weekend! Looking forward to a good time! Sorta funny to see you two evil kaneevils on here! Ain't you guys supposed to be out trying to break another bone somewhere? See ya guys Saturday @ Lilley's!

Well don't have much to report for this weekend but I was there. Launched from Indian Creek and fished the coves and points on the north side of the lake from Indian Creek to the dam. As you all were probably aware the whether sucked! We launched Friday around 7'ish. The coves were all around 52.8 to 53.7°. We mainly threw large rattle traps and a few other lures by Castaic. Lake is lower than I've ever seen it. After midnight sometime the ligtning started so we tied up in a dock and let it pass. Got back on it around 2'ish a.m. and fished till 9:00 a.m. without ever boating a fish. Got back to Across the Creek and let me tell you the hail commenced to coming down and beat the hell outta my buddies new Tahoe. So needless to say the weekend in Arkansas was not to good for me as Saturday night was worse with tornadoes and hail storms everywhere so we didn't even take the chance of getting out on the water. But we're planning another trip in the not to far future to give her a whirl again. I guess they had a Striper tourney launch outta Prairie Creek but I didn't here the outcome. Hope yer alls weekend was better than mine! I also came home to Tonganoxie, KS to a house that got the dog snot beat outta it from golf ball and larger hail! What a weekend!!

Ok, got ya now, you are back in the back end of Big Clifty.
-
I'm with ya there Jay, I don't do one lick of trolling for the brutes. I'm a big lure man. Also, I've never had a bit of luck throwing in the daytime, so I strictly fish nights. Do ya reckon around the point on Molder Hollow would be any good for the night? You mentioned point #1 and #5, are these daytime spots for ya or night? If you are into the night deal there is a good spot around point #8 just south. I've done darn well there. What is Hogscald? Guess it is not shown on my map but are you talking about the points aroun Big Hollow? That is one heck of a drop off around point #1 just to the west of the boat ramp! Looks as if the channel cuts right up along the bank. I would imagine that the flats around the island in front of the darn would hold fish when the shad were running, but I wander if they would be running up on the flats yet or if the water may be a bit to chilly for them yet? I'm getting antsy to get outta here. Tomorrow at about this time I'll being hookin' the boat up and heading down. I'd imagine we'll probably launch outta LB south and hit that spot around #8 and maybe Molder Hollow and then up N. Clifty Arm a little ways. I'm not familiar at all with the dam are but Mike from Across the Creek tells me that they are catching them there right now. So we'll see when we get there tomorrow where he tells us to go. Good talkin with ya Jay!
-
I just caught wind of that Hickory Creek area yesterday. I guess they are catching some nice stripers up there right now. Jay, I also fish near the Dam area. I actually launch out of Lost Bridge Marina and fish up lake a ways. Do you have much luck down around the dam? I have never went clear to the dam but I have heard stories of guys sneaking under the cable and just slaying them! Don't know if I would be as bold as to do that but I wouldn't mind fishing somewhere around that area. Do you know anything about that area? Good to see some guys getting interested and talking about the Beaver Lake striper fishing. I've been fishing there for years and I have never found a site or forum where you actually had guys who fished Beaver talking to one another!
-
Heading down Friday to give the night stripers a whirl. Anyone been fishing around the Lost Bridge area recently?
-
I have been searching and searching for a good web site that gives a decent fishing report for the striper fishing on Beaver and I can't find a report worth a hoot anywhere. Also, does anyone know of a website that gives water temps for Beaver? Seems to me like there is just not a whole lot of info on Beaver lake anywhere to be found. I'm fixing on heading out Friday regardless of what I find out on any report so hopefully I'll come back Monday with some sort of a striper report. I have called a few guides on Beaver and while they beat around the bush a little on telling you what is going on, it does sound like they are starting to catch a few in the 10 to 20 lb range. They will not give me a good idea of where they are fishing so hopefully the few spots that I personally have found over the years will produce this weekend.

Anyone have any Penn 320 GTI's, 310 GTI's, or 309's laying around they want to sell?
-
Anyone got any water reports on the levels in the Shell Osage area? Can't wait for spoony opener on the 15th! Anyone going? Imagine I'll be there regardless of water conditions just to say I went.
