  1. Lot of good info guys. I hope to get out and catch some but it will probably be this fall. Any info on these fish is appreciated. Thanks
  2. Thats a good looking trap but what I need for my crawdad fishing is the Tim Taylor model. Where can I get a blueprint
  3. Terry: That is a good article. See not everything I said was wrong you have to cut the red meat from the carp before it is good to eat then it is full of bones. HAH
  4. MMmmmm. Canned sucker. Thats something I can sink a tooth into. Good stuff.
  5. Sunday the 10th. Hope the weather permits.
  6. Throw everything back but the bite.
  7. Armadillo's were brought here by some well meaning persons of non-native origin who thought they we would like some good old possum on the half shell. I don't believe the no worms theory. Even if it was true they would have a natural route from Central America right back into their traditional grounds.
  8. I have ate some carp and buffalo that were pretty good myself. The problem with carp is there is such a huge amount of red meat vs white meat. By the time one trims the red meat there is very little edible meat left, so a person is likely to starve to death before enough carp can be cleaned to obtain even a meager portion of edible meat. Then comes the second problem, bones. If he/she survives the process of cleaning the huge pile of carp required to obtain a meager amount of edible meat then by eating it he/she runs the risk of choking to death on one of the many bones in the remaining edible meat. Of course a person doesnt have to trim the red meat before eating the carp but in the immortal words of Crocodile Dundee "you can survive on it but it tastes like (expletive)." Just the way I see it.
  9. What did you use for a cigarette paper? The Bugtussle Newspaper? Heh heh
  10. Not a problem. I was asking for two reasons. One I wanted to know if I need to bring a fish fryer and second some people are touchy about their cooking equipment, dutch ovens, in particular. I certainly would not leave it all up to one person and don't mind helping with the cooking at all. Good, on the wife and child. This is a 'gill get together and hence should be family fun.
  11. I am not for Brown Trout in the 11pt but when it comes down to it I am sure it really doesn't matter. If there is bucks in it for them the state will stock them.
  12. Good luck Bradley and welcome to the forum. I am just sorry Terry is the first person you had to talk to on here.
  13. I have heard the big Head Carp are really good eating. Especially smoked. Anyone tried them?
  14. What you say is true. I am not really a big fan of brown trout. I prefer rainbows. However I don't look at the issue on an individuals personal preference. Whether or not I like them Brown Trout are generally considered desirable in the Ozarks, I don't know about other places. Because of this I consider them desirable but not native. To me this is simple. If the fish could have migrated here naturally, by swimming, by racoons or possums or birds they are natural. If they are delivered by jet, train, ocean liner, truck or automobile over natural barriers or distances they could never bridge naturally then they are not native. What ever happened to MTM? I havent heard from him in ages. He used to send me emails regularly. The problem with using L&C as a reference is first they could not have documented every single species of animal and plant on their trip; second they only covered a small percentage of the land so certainly did not see all the wildlife. To me it makes a huge difference. Under the above argument Zebra Mussels are native to the US. I agree with you on the above statement. Well since LMB were were native to the river before it was dammed they are obviously native to TR. Hah Terry. You have never heard me say your arguments are bogus. Like you I enjoy the discussion. What I hate is the people who are closed minded to the point of being obnoxious. As to demeaning statements am sure I have made some but, I have never intentionally went out of my way to demean anyone. Hey. Are you comming to the 'gill get together Sunday? I hope you can make it. I would really like to meet you. gf
  15. I agree with Gavin on the spots but what I dont understand is why didn't you put common carp in the undesirable list? :) This whole concept of trying to make non-native fish native boggles my mind. The terms desirable/undesirable should replace native/non-native in most discussions. Simple fact is that Brown Trout are desirable but will never be native to the Ozarks.
  16. I have never caught a Pickerel here in MO but plan to in the near future. I need some pointers as to where, how and when? What are the best lures or live bait to use?
  17. Good question. I assumed KFF was going to be in charge of the fire. I shouldn't assume, so it would be best to ask him. Does this mean you will be in charge of the fire and cooking?
  18. I bet the Beeson sneeked them in there. Travel by feathered birds is one approved method of natural migration; travel by aluminum skinned birds is not. HEH HEH
  19. I don't think birds would be carrying fish eggs all the way from Asia, Africa or Germany to deliver them here in the Ozarks, much less be able to spend that much time in a birds gut without being digested but, if that were to happen then I would have to give them a native species award.
  20. May be some truth to that. :P
  21. I got it on my calender. I will be there unless a natural force of nature (my wife) changes my plans. Heh heh She already said I could have a 'get-out-of-the-kitchen.pass for that day so I reckon I will be there.
  22. Not quiet in the state park. I am attaching a map of Stockton Lane just look for Cedar Ridge. Jes plain ol french fry looking taters will be fine.
  23. A head count and who is bringing what. Tentative list KFF is bringing the iron. (Do we need a pan to cook the fish in?) JC is bringing the oil. GF is bringing Cornmeal and Taters among other things. Terry is bringing ? Quillback ? ? Chief Grey Bear ? pork n beans Duckydoty and son ?? ?? Don ? ? Troutchaser ? ? Flysmallie ? ? Have I missed anyone? Some other items we need. Paper plates plastic utensils can opener Drinks, salt and pepper Any thing else anyone can think of?
  24. This is a kid friendly fishing outing. How old is your boy? I may bring my 14 YO dau but, if I do she will probably out fish all of us.
  25. Cedar Ridge Picnic area. I'll be there early morning.
